6 IN STALLATI ON INST ALLI N G THE HANDSET’S ANTENNA Insert the antenna into the hole on th e t o p of the hand- set, then twist the antenna clockwi se unt il it is secure. SELECTING A L OCATION You can place the p hone on a desk top, or mount it on a wall plate o r directly on a w all.
7 3. Plug one end of the s upplied long modul ar cord into the phone line jack on the back of the base. 4. Plug the AC ada pter into a st andard AC out let. 5. Plug the modul ar cord’s ot her end into a modular phone line jack. 6. For t he bes t reception, adjust the base ’ s ant enna so it stands straight up.
8 4. Position the m ounting bracket with the narrow end on t op. Rout e the short modular cord through the cen- ter hole of the bracket, an d insert the two ta bs at the t op of b racket into the matching slots on the base’s back, near the jacks.
9 Moun ting Directly on the W all For this mounting me thod , you need two wood s crews (not s upplied) with hea ds that fit into the key hole slots on the mount ing brack et. 1. At t he des ired m ount ing locatio n, drill two hol es 3 15 / 16 inches (100 mm ) apart.
10 6. Align the keyhole slots on the mounting bracket with the screws on the wall, t h en slide the base down- ward t o secure it. 7. Plug the A C adapt er i nto a s tandard AC out let. 8. Plug the long m odul ar cord’s other end into a modular phone line jack.
11 PREP ARATION CONNECT ING AN D CHARGING THE BA TTER Y P ACK The E T-928 com es w i th a re c ha rgeable nickel-cadmi um battery pack in the hands et, but not connected. Before us - ing your ph one, you mus t connect the battery pac k, then charge it f or a bout 24 hours.
12 • I f t he bat ter y p ac k beco m es weak , the handset sounds a short b eep every 16 seconds during a call (or every 64 seco nds when t he handset is not in use) and the BA T T LOW indicator flashe s. W ithin about 10 minutes, the phone will a utomati- cally disconn ect.
13 T u rni ng On/Off t he Ringers To have the base ring when a call comes in, set RINGER ON /OFF on the back of the base to ON . To have it not sound, s et RINGER ON/ OFF to OFF . T o have the h andset ri ng wh en a ca l l co mes in , s e t RINGER ON/OFF on the handset’s left side to ON .
14 OPE R ATION You can use th e keypad on the hands et or base to operate the ET -928. To use the phon e’s features during a cal l, how- ever, you must use the s ame key pad that you used to m ake or answer that call. MAKING/AN SWERING CALLS Using the Handset To ma ke a cal l using th e han dset, lift the handset and press TA L K .
15 Switch ing Between t he Hand set and Speaker phone To sw itch from the hands et to the spea kerphone a t any t ime durin g a call, press HOLD on the hand set, then SPEAKER on t he base so its red indi ca- tor turns on, and begin the conv ersation. To sw itch from the s peakerphone t o the hands et, lift the ha ndset off t he base .
16 USING HOLD To place a call on hold, press HOLD on the handset or base. The SP E AKER i n- dicator on the base and th e TALK i ndi- cator on the ha ndset (if it is o ff the base) flash to remin d you that the call is on hold. Y ou and t he other party cannot hear each other .
17 Note: If you do not have any s pecial phone s ervices, pressing FLASH might discon nect th e current call. USING T ONE SERVICES ON A PULSE LINE Some s pecial services, such as b ank- by-pho ne, require tone signals. I f you have pulse service, you can still use these services.
18 SPEC IAL FE ATURES MEMORY DIALI NG You can st ore up t o 20 numb ers of up t o 16 digits e ach in the ET -928’s m emory, then dial t he m with the press of a few buttons. Stor ing a Numb er Notes : • Y ou ca n use either the base o r the handset to store and dial numbers.
19 Stor ing a Pau se In som e telephone s ystems, you m ust dial an acces s code ( 9 , for example) and wait for a second dial tone before you can dial an out side number. You can store the access code wit h the phone numbe r. However, you should a lso store a pause after the access code to allow the outside line time to connect.
20 • If a c all is in progres s on the hand- set or base when it receives a page, you can put the call on hold, then answer the page. When y ou finish the intercom call, release ho ld to disconnect the intercom and resum e the ph one call. Pag ing fr om th e Base to the Handset To send a page from the base to the handset, press INT CM .
21 USIN G AN OPTI ONAL HEADSET Your ET-92 8’s handset is equ ipped with a heads et jack o n top. This jack allows you to conn ect an o ptional h eadset (such as RadioShack Cat. No. 43-194) for h ands-free conv ersation — pe rfect for when you are working i n the yard or gara ge.
22 T ROUBLESHOOTING We do not expect you to have any problems with your phone, but if you d o, t he foll ow- ing suggestions might help. Pro bl em Sol utio n Low volume or unusual sounds . Some one has picked up another phon e on the same line. Hang up the other phone.
23 If y ou still have pr oblem s, dis connect the phone . If ot her pho nes on the sam e li ne work prope r l y, the fault is in this phone or its installation. If you cannot fi n d the prob- lem, take your phone to your local RadioShack store for assist ance.
24 OUT OF RAN GE INDICA TIONS If you move the ET-928’ s handset out of the base’s range, the handset will not operate properly. If you move the hand set out of the base’s range w hen the handset is not in use, the ha ndset’s BATT LOW indi cat or flashes and the handset beeps twi ce ev- ery 1 6 s econds.

26 REPLACING THE BA TTER Y P AC K If you f ollow the i nstructions in “Conn ect- ing and Charging the Battery Pack” on Page 11 , the battery pack shou ld last about one year. If the bat tery pack will not hold a ch arge for more than 2 hours after an overnight c harge, replace it with a new 3.
