3 FEATURES Your RadioShack System 931 79-Memory Caller ID displays the caller’s telephone number (and name, if available in your area) a nd the current d ate and time, as provided by your local phone comp any to Caller ID subscribers. The date and time are set when your Call- er ID receives its first call.
4 Dial Back — lets you redial a telep hone number stored in the Caller ID call record memory. New Call Indicator — flashes when you have ne w calls to review. VIP Call List — lets you save up to 20 im portant call records so they w ill not be del eted when you d elete other calls from the system’s memory.
5 This system has been tested and found to comply with all applicable FCC standards and is ETL listed. We recommend you record the system’s serial num- ber here.
6 FCC INFORMATION We have designed your system to conform to federal regulations, and you can connect it to most telephone lines. However, each system (and each device, such as a telephone or answering machi ne) that you con- nect to the telephone line draws powe r from the tele- phone line.
7 In the unlikely event that your system causes prob- lems on the phone line, the p hone comp any can te m- porarily disconnect your service. If this happe ns, the phone company attempts to no tify you in advance.

10 PREPARATION INSTALLING BATTERIES Your System 931 requires four AAA batte ries (not sup- plied) for power. For the longest operation and best performance, we recommend alkalin e batteries, avail- able at your local RadioShack stor e. Cautions: • Alwa ys use fresh batter ies of the required size and recommended type.
11 • When replacing the batte ries, hav e fresh ones on hand before y ou be gin. If you do not install the new batteries within about 2 minutes after remov- ing the old ones, you will lose all the inf or mation stored in the system. 1. Make sure the system is unplugged from the tele- phone line.
12 Cautions: • Alwa ys remove old or weak batteries. Batteries can leak chemicals that can damage your sys- tem. • Dispose of dead batter ies promptly and properl y . Do not bury or burn them. CONNECTING THE SYSTEM Your system connects directly to a modular telep hone line jack.
13 Cautions: • Ne ver install telephone wir ing during a light- ning stor m. • Ne ver touch uninsulated telephone wires or ter minals , unless the telephon e line has been disconnected at the network interface . • Use caution when installing or modifying tele- phone lines.
14 1. Disconnect the telepho ne line cord from the phone and plug it into the system’ s LINE jack. 2. Plug one end of the supplied line cord into th e system’ s PHONE jac k.
15 1. Disconnect the telephone line cord from the mo d- ular phone jack (on the wall) and plug it into L1 + L2 on the 2-line, 3-way adapter . 2. Plug the adapter i nto the modular phone jack on the wall. 3. Plug one end of the supplied line cord into th e LINE jack on one of the Syste m 931s.
16 1. Plug a telephone line cord from the phone line into the System 931’ s LINE jack. 2. Plug one end of the supplied line cord into th e system’ s PHONE jack and plug the cord’ s other end into the a ns wer ing machine’ s line jac k.
17 Attaching the Mounti ng Bracket 1. Align the slots on the bottom of the system with the hooks on the mounting brac k et. 2. Gently push the system down on the brac ket to secure it. If you are placing the system on a desk, shel f, or table, pull out the stand on the back of the bra cket until it clicks.
18 Mounting on a W all To mount the system on the wall, you need two screws (not supplied) with he ads larger than the keyhole slots on the back of the mounting bracket. Follow these steps to mount the system on a wall. 1. Using the keyhole slots in the mounting brack et as a template, mark the mounti ng screw loca- tions on the wall.
19 6. Line up the ke yh ole slots on the brac ket with the screws in the w all, then slide th e system down onto the screws until it is secure . ADJUSTING THE DISPLA Y CONTRAST To lighten or darken the di splay, press DELETE and REVIEW buttons until CONTRAST ADJUST ap- pears in the display.
20 CHOOSING A LANGUAGE Your System 931 is pro grammed to display messages in English, but you can change it to display in French or Spanish. Follow these steps to change the lan- guage. 1. Hold down REVIEW and CALL BA CK fo r about 3 seconds until the current lang uage ( ENGLISH , ESPANOL , or FRANCAIS ) appears.
21 1. Hold down both REVIEW bu ttons until LOCAL AREA CODE appears. 2. T o change th e first dig it, press REVIEW until the desired number appears, then press DELETE . 3. Repeat Step 2 to set the second and third digit. 4. Press REVIEW or wait about 10 seconds.
22 During an incoming call, the red NEW CALL indicator flashes. Note: When the system is not receiving a call, you can press DELETE to toggle be tween 12- and 24-ho ur time displays. RE VIEWING CALL RECOR DS Each time you receive a call, the system saves a call record in memory.
23 REDIALING FROM MEMORY Follow these steps to redial a tel ephone number stored in the Caller ID’s memory. 1. Press either REVIEW b utton to view the desired call record. 2. Lift the handset of your touch-tone te lephone and confir m th e presence of a dial tone.
24 LONG DISTANCE LONGUE DISTANCE LARGA DISTANCIA Appears with LDC (long distance call) if the sent Caller ID information does not include a name, bu t indicates that the incom- ing call is long distance. -UNKNOWN NAME- -NOM INCONNU- NOM DESCONOCIDO The incoming call is from an area that doe s not send Caller ID name infor- mation.
25 -BLOCKED NAME- -NOM BLOQUE- NOMBRE PRIVADO The caller has blocked the Caller ID name informa- tion from being sent. 27 DELETING CALLS Deleting a Single Call 1. Repeatedly press (or hol d down) either REVIEW ke y until you see the call record you w ant to delete. 2. Press DELETE . The system deletes that record and automati cally renumbers the remaining cal l records.
28 Deleting All Calls 1. While the system displays the time and date, press either REVIEW key . 2. Hold down DELETE until the system displa ys DELETE ALL? . 3. While DELETE ALL? app ears, press DELETE again. -NO CALL- appears. T o cancel the deleti on, do not press any button.
29 1. Repeatedly press either REVIEW key u n ti l yo u see the call re cord you want to store as a VIP call. 2. Hold down VIP until VIP flashes and -RECORD STORED- appears. The system stores the record as a VIP call record. Note: If the system’ s memo r y is full (20 VIP call records stored), -VIP MEMO FULL- appears when you press VIP .
30 To delete all entri es from the VIP call list, press VIP , then hold down DELETE until DELETE ALL? appears. Then press DELETE again. To cancel the deletion, do not press any button.
31 Check installation. Problem S olution LIGHTNING Your telephone has buil t-in protection circuits to re- duce the risk of damage from surges in telephone line and power line current. These protection circuits meet or exceed the FCC requirements. However, li ghtning striking the telephone or power l ines can damage your telephone.
