FastTrak TX4000 User Manual 48 Disk Arra y Terms Disk A rray Description A disk array is formed fro m a group of two or mor e disk drive s that appear t o the system as a single d rive. The advantage of an array is to pro vide better throughput perf ormance and /or data fault toleran ce.
Chapter 5: Di sk Array C oncepts 49 About RAID Levels Striping (RAID 0) Reads and w rites sector s of d ata interleav ed between m ultiple driv es. W hen any disk memb er fails, it affe cts the ent ire array . Performance is better than a single drive since the w orkload is bal anced betw een the array me mbers.
