6 HO W T O SET UP Y OUR TRA CT OR INST ALL SEA T (See Fig. 2) Adjust seat bef ore tightening adjustment knob . • Remov e adjustment knob and fl at washer securing seat to cardboard packing and set aside f or assembly of seat to tractor . • Pivot seat upward and remov e from the cardboard pack- ing.

11 OPERA TION The operation of any tractor can result in f oreign objects thro wn into the ey es, which can result in severe e ye dam age. Al wa ys wear safety glass es or eye shields while operating your tractor or per for m ing any adjustments or repair s.
12 OPERA TION T O OPERA TE MO WER (See Fig. 8) Y our tractor is equipped with an operator presence sensing s witch. Any attempt b y the operator to lea ve the seat with the engine running and the attachment clutch engaged will shut off the engine. • Select desired height of cut.
13 OPERA TION BEFORE ST ARTING THE ENGINE CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL • The engine in your tractor has been shipped, from the f actor y , already fi lled with sum mer weight oil.
14 MULCHING MO WING TIPS IMPORT ANT : FOR BEST PERFORMANCE, KEEP MOWER HOUSING FREE OF BUIL T -UP GRASS AND TRASH. CLEAN AFTER EA CH USE. • The spe cial mulch ing blade will recut the g rass clip- pings many times and reduce them in size so that as they f all onto the lawn they will disperse into the g rass and not be noticed.

16 MAINTENANCE BLADE REMO V AL (See Fig. 11) • Raise mower to highest position to allow access to blades . • Remov e blade bolt, lock washer and fl at washer se cur ing blade . • Install new or resharpened blade with trailing edge up tow ards deck as sho wn.
17 MAINTENANCE V- B E LT S Check V -belts for deterioration and wear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessary . The belts are not ad just able. 18 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spar k arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e very 100 hours of operation, whiche v er occurs fi rst.

23 REPLA CING BA TTER Y (See Figs. 28 and 29) W ARNING: Do not short batter y ter- mi nals by allowing a wrenc h or any other object to contact both terminals at the same time. Bef ore connect- ing battery , remove metal bracelets, wristwatch bands, rings, etc.
24 ENGINE T O AD JUST THR O TTLE CON TROL CABLE (See Fig. 31) The throttle control has been preset at the f actor y and ad just ment should not be necessar y . Check adjustment as described below bef ore loosening cable . If adjustment is necessar y , proceed as f ollows: • With engine not running, mov e throttle control le ver to f ast position.
25 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor f or storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 da ys or more. W ARNING: Never store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
