Boat Remote User ’ s Man ual 14 LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) The LCD , local display , is your guide f or information and program- ming. A scrolling status screen, referred to as the idle screen, will appear when the Boat Remote is idle. The status of all inputs that are in Status-Only Mode or Active Mode are sho wn on the idle screen.

17 Chapter 2: Installation CHAPTER 2: INST ALLA TION C orrectly installing Boat Remote will ensure proper functioning of the unit. Please read the entire chapter bef ore star ting the installation process. Failure to pr operly install the unit will result in erratic operation, shortened product life and a v oid warranty .
Boat Remote User ’ s Man ual 18 Connecting the P ower Supply There are two entry points for wiring into the enclosure of the Boat Remote. They are: a slot on the back of the enclosure belo w the access panel and a perf orated “ punch out ” on the lower side of the enclosure.
19 Chapter 2: Installation Connecting the Battery The battery connection is for monitoring the voltage of y our boat batter y and it also pro vides power to the unit in the e vent of a pow er failure . The batter y connects to the terminals labelled 12VDC.

21 Chapter 2: Installation T emperature Sensors Y our Boat Remote comes with a temperature sensor connected to the TEMP1 input. This can be used to monitor the temperature where the Boat Remote is installed. Up to two additional sensors ma y be connected to the Boat Remote on the ter minals labeled TEMP2 and TEMP3.

23 Chapter 2: Installation Security Input The security input can be used with magnetic reed s witches, passive infrared detectors or an y other secur ity de vice that provides a normally open or nor mally closed contact. The security input may hav e se veral normally closed accessories attached in a chain.

Chapter 3: Programming 25 CHAPTER 3: PROGRAMMING T his chapter describes use of the ke ypad and explains the ke ypad commands for prog ramming the Boat Remote. Y ou will learn how to program V oice Messages, System P arameters, Phone P arameters , and Input Alar m P arameters.

Chapter 3: Programming 27 PROGRAMMING V OICE MESSA GES Boat Remote allows y ou to record f our custom alar m messages and an identification (ID) message. The f our alar m messages are f or the T emperature #1, T emperature #2, T emperature #3, and Auxiliary inputs.

Call Dela y Call Dela y is the programmed length of time the Boat Remote w aits, follo wing detection of an alarm, before it begins dial out. This applies only to the first call. Dur ing this time Boat Remote will audib ly repeat the alarm message.

The alarm recognition time, call dela y , and bilge pump cycle rate are all based on this built-in cloc k. The clock runs on militar y time and the date is month and da y only .
Boat Remote User ’ s Man ual 38 Remote automatically will wait until outgoing calls are ans wered bef ore reciting alarm messages. Y ou hav e the ability to set a different dial out list f or each input with Boat Remote. A dial out list is a list of up to eight phone numbers , for each input, to be called in the e vent of an alarm.

Boat Remote User ’ s Man ual 40 Special Dialing The Boat Remote has provisions f or special dialing sequences. Special dialing sequences allow: • Dialing that requires an access number to connect with an outside line. • Dialing that requires the pound (#).

Chapter 3: Programming 45 Use the number k eys. Use the CODE k ey to inser t a decimal point. Press ENTER . Using the number k eys on the k eypad enter the Low Limit. The def ault is 11.0V and the range is 0-16 V olts. Use the CODE key t o inser t a decimal point.

Press the MODE ke y on the ke ypad until the appropriate mode is shown on the display . Press the MODE ke y to toggle through the three input modes.
Chapter 3: Programming 47 Press ENTER . The display will reflect y our selection. Phone Selection: 1,2,4,6 T emperature Inputs (1, 2, & 3) The T emperature Inputs are compatible with the industry standard 10K thermistors. The monitored temper ature range is -20 ° F to 160 ° F, -29 ° C - 71 ° C.

Boat Remote User ’ s Man ual 50 Bilge Pump Inputs (2) The Bilge Pump Inputs will monitor the number of on/off cycles and the accumulated run time of your bilge pumps . The alarm param- eters can be programmed to detect whether the bilge pump runs too frequently (cycle rate alarm) or for too long a period (maximum run time alarm).
Chapter 3: Programming 51 The local displa y will prompt for the Maxim um Run Time. Using the number k eys on the ke ypad, enter the number of min utes, press ENTER . Repeat for seconds. The def ault is 30 minutes and the r ange is 1 second to 999 minutes 59 seconds.
Boat Remote User ’ s Man ual 52 the eight numbers that y ou programmed f or dial out, or any combina- tion of the eight numbers . Remember , regardless of what order you enter your Input phone selections , the phone numbers will be dialed in order , according to their sequence number (1-8).
Chapter 3: Programming 53 Emergency High Water Le v el Input The High W ater Lev el Input will monitor the open or closed status of a float s witch. T o program the Emergency High W ater Le vel Input, follo w these steps. Press SET . Press HIGH W A TER .

Use the number ke ys to select the phone numbers to be dialed when the A uxiliar y Input is in alarm. Y ou can choose all of the eight numbers that y ou programmed f or dial out, or any combination of the eight numbers.
Chapter 3: Programming 57 Press SECURITY . The Local Displa y will prompt for y ou to choose normally open or normally closed. The def ault is nor mally open. Use the MODE key t o toggle between open and closed. When your choice is displa yed press ENTER .

Use the number ke ys to select the phone numbers to be dialed when the Security Input is in alar m. Y ou can choose all of the eight numbers that y ou programmed f or dial out, or any combination of the eight numbers.

The pre viously recorded message will be repla yed. “ The outside temperature is 74 ° F ” T o v er ify System par ameters: Press WHA T IS ?. Press SYSTEM . A screen will appear on the Local Displa y with all of the System parameters that ha ve been progr ammed.

Chapter 4: Operation 61 A fter installation and programming have been completed, Boat Remote is fully operational. This chapter e xplains the sequence of events that occur during an alarm to illustrate how Boat Remote operates. P ar t One outlines the basic alarm sequence.
Boat Remote User ’ s Man ual 62 dialing out. During this time (if the speaker is set to ON), the unit will recite an alarm message locally to indicate which input is in alarm. If someone on board acknowledges the alarm before the Call Delay time expires, the unit will not dial out.
Chapter 4: Operation 63 Remote DOES NOT speak a voice message. It calls the beeper company or service, enters the number to be displayed on the beeper , then hangs up . Alarm Acknowledgment Local Alarms can be acknowledged locally by pressing any key on the Boat Remote keypad.

Chapter 5: T roubleshooting 73 I n the event that a problem is encountered, this section will assist you in determining the cause so you can return the unit to its usual monitoring routine with minimal interruption.

Chapter 5: T roubleshooting 75 SYSTEM menu and adjust if necessary . CA USE: The Boat Remote is connected to an incompatible tele- phone line. SOLUTION: Some telephone systems will not allow the telephone to ring bey ond 4 r ings . If y our Boat Remote ’ s Rings Until Answ er is set at more than 4 rings you ma y not be able to access the unit.

Chapter 5: T roubleshooting 77 SOLUTION: Replace the AC power fuse , see Fig 2.2 in Chapter 2. The fuse is rated at 1.5 Amps and is siz e 2AG. PROBLEM: The Boat Remote does not recognize any alarm. CA USE: The Boat Remote is in standby mode . SOLUTION: Press the MODE button to change to ON-BOARD or A WA Y MODE.
