Page 4 Intr oduction Functional Description Thank you for selecting A TI’s ATP 8500 Digital Pream plif ier-Pr ocessor for your audio and video home theater . The ATP 8500 is the center of a high-end cinema and audio system. The ATP 8500 decodes Dolby Digital, DTS and Dolby Pro Logic.

R ear Panel Connections Power Connections (1) PO WER INLET Befor e making any connections, check that the mains (AC) voltag e or rang e of v oltages printed on the rear panel is the same as your local mains supply voltage. Plug the female (socke t) end of the pow er cord into the pow er inlet on the rear of the preamplifier .
Page 9 (4) TAPE INPUT/OUTPUT These connectors are for all types of t ape recorders, including 3-head types, which allow you to monitor the signal from the t ape at the same time it is being recor ded. Connect a stereo cable pair from the TAPE REC output sockets of the preamp to the LINE IN or RECORD IN socke ts of your tape recorder .
Video Connections (9) COMPOSITE VIDEO INPUTS 1 THROUGH 6 These are the default video inputs. Connect the com posite video output cables coming from your video sources to these inputs. No te: T ake care to use inputs with the same name for the composite video, S-Video and analog audio cables from a single source.

Fr ont P anel Contr ols PO WER (ST ANDB Y) SWITCH ON FRONT P ANEL When you plug the ATP 8500 into a “live” mains pow er wall socke t and turn the rear panel POWER switch ON, it will pow er up in “standby” mode. In this mode the internal circuit of the A TP 8500 is pow ered but inactive.
Page 13 SOURCE SELECT ▲ AND ▼ (UP AND DO WN) With t hese buttons you can bro wse up or down through the inputs to select the source (audio or audio-video) that is fed to t he main outputs. The signal you have selected will also be fed to the TAPE REC output sock ets for recording.
HEADPHONE VOL UME DO WN/UP AND HEADPHONE INPUT The up and down buttons control the headphone volume independently of the main v olume. When adjusting the headphone volume, the OSD shows the relative dif fer ence (volume of fset) compar ed to the main volume.

Page 1 7 ▲ , ▼ , ▲ , ▼ (UP , DO WN, LEFT , RIGHT KEYS) Y ou can use these keys to navigate in the menu. The up and down k eys are for selecting the parameter to be adjusted. The lef t and right k eys are for adjusting the parameter you have selected with the up and down k eys.
NOISE This key switches on the Noise T est signal, after the LEVEL k ey has been pressed or the level setup entered from the setup menu. A broadband noise is sent first to the Lef t Front Channel for a few seconds, the to the Center Channel and so on through the other channels.

New commands can be taught to any button in the CD, DVD, A UX, SAT , T V ,V CR and CBL device modes, ex cept on the LIGHT button.

Source Se tup Menu • Sour ce Setup specif ies the parameters for each a nalog source. This includes which digital in put is assigned to each source. It also indicates the analog input sensitivity . In addition you can chang e the name of a source as it appears in the On Screen and Fr ont Panel displays.
Display Setup Menu • The Display Setup specif ies the parameters for the On Screen Display . In each case y ou may use the LEFT and RIGHT keys to alter the parameter you hav e selected. • Select T V System to switch betw een NTSC and P AL to suit your T V system.
