1 Using Y our A TI Multimedia Center This chapter explains ho w to use the special features that your A TI Multimedia Center offers. The Multimedia Center is a suite of products that provides TV , V ideo CD, CD Audio, File Player , and Media Library in one package.

6 T V TV W atch T ele vi sion on your computer! Y ou can receive up to 125 cable television channels and 70 antenna channels in smooth, full- motion video on the whole screen or in a window .
TV 7 Setting up TV The first time you start TV , you must co mplete the Initiali zation W i zard. After that, the Wizard will not run unless you want to re-run it in order to change settin gs. The Init iali zatio n W izard guides you quickly and easily throug h set tin g up TV channels, Parental Control, Sound, and R ecording Format.
8 T V Click Next > . The Recording F o rm at Initializa tio n W izard appears. Follo w the Wizard’ s inst ructi o ns to sele ct the defau lt recording format. Click Next > . The End of In itialization W izar d panel appears. Click Finish to complete TV setup.

TV 15 TV video settings The video settings page lets you choose a video connecto r and fine-tune video cha racteristics. TV 17 Channel Pr oper ty Details When you select a channel and then click the Details ... butt on in the TV T uner settings page, th e Channel Property Details page opens to let you set properties for particular channels — fa v orites list, channel assignmen t, and properties for audio, video, program lockout, and closed captioning.
18 TV Selection Function Channel Specific Settings A udio Click Aud i o , then click Details ... to open the Sound details page. Mute Settings Global Applies mute settings to selected channel. Mute On Mutes audio . Mute Off Cancels muting. SAP Settings see Secondary Audio Program (SAP) on page 21.
TV 19 TV Stills Gallery settings Y ou can capture still images fr om TV , and sav e them in the Stills Gallery . T o open the TV Stills Gallery settings pa g e Click the Setup button in the TV cont rol panel, then click the Stills Gallery tab. For information on the Stills Gallery , see Stills Gallery on page 60.
20 TV A TI TV Bar Browse the W eb and watch TV at the same time, without resi zing your windows! A TI TV Bar displays TV in you r Internet Explorer W eb Browser . North American users can also view a display of channel names and numbers, with continuously updated program in formation.
TV 21 Channel Surfing Y ou can browse through several TV channels simultaneously , and select channels by clicking on “thumbnail” images (miniature re presentations) of the channels. Each thumbnail displays the channel number , and is regularly updated to display the current program.
22 TV Closed Captioning Display closed captioned text ov er video, like a standard TV , and/or in a separate window beside the video. When you use the separate window , you can use the scroll bar to re view the last few minutes of text. Y ou can set the background color , the fo nt, and the font color for the window .
TV 23 Closed Caption settings The Closed Caption settings page lets you specify how closed captioned text is displayed — over video or in a window — and the background color, the font, and the font color for the windo w . Y o u can also set up and enable the HotW ords and TV Magazine features.
24 TV HotW ords™ Hav e your computer watch TV for you! When you turn on Closed Captioni ng (see Closed Captioning on page 22 ), you can specify words and phrases tha t T elevision will detect in the closed-captioned text.
TV 25 TV Magazine Use TV Magazine to transcribe closed captioned broadcasting, including pictures and text. Y ou can save files as R TF (Rich T ext F ormat), which preserv es formatting, and can be used in many word processors, plain text (TXT), or Hypertext Markup Language (HTML).

TV 27 External Captions suppor t When you record vid eo using the Personal V ideo Recorder (see page 34 ), the associated closed cap tion information is added to the Media Library (see pa ge 45 ).
28 TV Secondary A udio Program (SAP) The Secondary Audio Pr ogram can be used to broadcast, for example, language translations, r eading services for the visually impaired, weather forecasts, or information about a sho w .
TV 29 THR UVIEW ™ If your computer uses a RADEON or later video card, THR UVIEW Desktop and THR UVIEW W i ndo w are a v ailable. THR UVIEW Desktop . The current panel appears full-screen as a translucent layer on top of all other w indows when minimized.
30 TV Channel Lock out Channel Lock out let s you blo ck pa rticular programs at specif ic times, and set a password to unlock them. Use the Program Lockout page to specify channel, time, and duration. T o se t Ch a n ne l L ocko u t 1 Click the Setup button in the T ele vision control panel, then click the TV T uner tab .
TV 31 P arental Control Parental Control lets you restrict access to TV programs depending on their conten t rati ng. The video and audi o of programs that you restrict will not be recorded until the correct password is entered.
32 TV Record ing Video and still images Full-motion vi deo . The Personal V ideo Recorder lets you record a clip of full-motion video plu s audio from your video source and sa ve it as an MPEG, A VI, .
TV 33 Recor ding a clip of video and audio fro m TV T o recor d a clip of video and audi o Click the Record button in the T ele vision control panel, or right-click the Record button an d select a duration from the menu. The Personal V ideo Recorder starts recording video and audio to your computer’ s hard disk.
34 Personal Video Recorder P ersonal Video Recor der The Personal V ideo Recorder pro vides simple controls and powerful recording options. Y o u can record a clip of fu ll- motion video and audio fro m your video source and save it as an MPEG, A VI, VCR, or WMV f ile.
Personal Video Recorder 35 When you right-click the record button, the following options are av ailabl e (the available times depend upon your hard disk space). P ersonal Video Record er settings Use the Personal V ideo Recorder settings pages to specify recording quality , durati on, general options, and custom settings.
36 Personal Video Recorder T o set up the P er sonal Video Recorder Click the Setup button in the TV control panel, then click the Personal V ideo Recorder tab. Selection Function Recording Preset These settings are dependent upon your system configuration.

42 MULTVIEW™ MUL TVIEW ™ If you hav e an A TI ALL-IN-WOND ER card and an A TI TV WONDER PCI card installed, MUL TVIEW lets you watch a different channel in a secondary video windo w . Y ou can record video from your ALL-IN-WONDER card while you watch another channel on the TV WONDER.

Media Library 45 Media Library The Media Library provides a con v enient way to manage and play all your multi media files. When you record video or audio, it is automatically added to the Media Library .
46 Media Library T o scan f or content 1 Click the Scan for Content bu tton to scan for media files in the directory you specify . 2 Select the content to scan fo r — All, Movie, Picture, or Document, — and follo w th e on-screen directions. Media Library adds any of the follo wi ng ty pes of files that it finds in the directory you specif ied.
Media Library 47 T o con vert A TI VCR files to MPEG-2 format 1 Add the .VCR f ile to the Media Library b y scanning for content or by dragging it into the Media Library's content (upper) window . 2 Right-click the file, then click Export to MPEG-2 .

TV Listing s 49 TV Listings Gemstar’ s GUIDE Plus+™ is an electronic television programming guide for Microsoft W indows. It provides advanced program information, such as station names and numbers, as well as program names and details.
50 TV Listings • Copy Check this to copy the TV Program Details panel’ s information into your Windo ws clipbo ard. • Right-clicking in the text area of the TV Program Details panel also provides access to the Au t o U p d a t e and Copy features.
TV Listing s 51 Getting around T o na vigate the v arious TV Listings vie ws, click the tab for the view you w ant, or select the appropriate view from the Vie w menu at the top of the screen. Use the mouse or cursor k eys to mo ve within the current view .
52 TV Listings Viewing TV Listings works with your TV tu ner to automatical ly display shows. When you select a program for viewing, the W atch icon appears next to the title in an y vie w where that program is displayed. • T o remo v e a program from the W atch Schedu le, simply click the W atch icon ne xt to the program title.
TV Listing s 53 Filter options Click the Filter icon to open the Filter options dialog, where you can adjust the current vie w and quickly locate programs. Select the boxes you want to apply to the current vie w , and click Close . Select the Use Station List checkbox to ap ply the most recently cust omized station list.
54 TV Listings Categories tab The Cate gories tab di sp l ays all genre categories in the current listings. A list of genre cat e gori es is di splayed o n the lef t of th e screen. • Click the category you want to view , to display all titles for that category on the right side of the screen.
TV Listing s 55 T ypically , you use the fa vorites list to find your preferred shows when your data file is updated. Select the Fav orites search from the list of searches, and the guide will look up and displ ay all your fav orite items. Y ou can then select any or all of these items into your Schedule.
56 TV Listings Schedules tab A schedule is a list of TV e vents that you hav e selected in any view , including search results. The schedule is in the form of a Log V iew (see page 52 ). There are three lists yo u can choose from: • Wa t c h displays al l ev ents with at least the W atch indicator set.

60 Stills Gallery Stills Gallery The still images you capture from TV , V ideo CD, or File Player are sav ed i n the Stills Gallery . Y ou can sav e images in a v ariety of graphics formats and sizes. The Stills Gallery contr ols let you delete images, hide them, sav e them as wallpa per , and print them.

62 CD Audio CD A udio Use CD Audio to play standard audio CDs. Adva nced features such as Random play , Intro play (which plays the first ten seconds of each track) and Loop play are av ailable. The Schedule feature lets you schedule CD playback o n dates and times you specify (see Schedule on page 83).
