If a firmware upgrade operation does not complete successfully , slide th is switch to the reset position and perform the firmwa re upgrade again.
9 Chapter 2 Inst allation This chapter explains how to connect up your in st allation — from a basic single stage hookup to a complete daisy chained setup . Single St ag e Inst allation In a Single Stage installati on, there are no additional switches daisy chained down from the first unit.

2. Installation 13 Hot Plugging The ACS1208 / ACS1216 supports h ot plugging - components can be removed and added back into the install ation by unplugging t heir cables from the ports without the need to shut the unit down.
ACS1208 / ACS1216 User Manual 14 Port ID Numbering Each CPU port on a Master View instal lation is assigned a unique Port ID. The Port ID is made up of two parts: a Statio n Numb er , and a Port Number : The Station Number - is a two digit number which reflects the switch's position in the daisy chain sequence.
15 Chapter 3 Hotkey Operation This chapter details the concepts and procedures i nvolved in the H otkey operation of your ACS1208 / ACS1216 installatio n; OSD Operation is discussed in detail in Chapter 4. Hotkey Port Control Hotkey Port Control allows you to provide KVM focus to a particular computer directly from the keyboard.

Hotkey Operation 17 Auto Scanning Auto Scan automatically switches amo ng all the active CPU Ports that are accessible to the currently logged on User at regular intervals, so that he can monitor their activity autom atically. ACS1208 / ACS1216 User Manual 18 Invoking Auto Scan : To start Auto Scanning, key in the following Hotkey combinatio n: 1. Invok e Hotkey Mode wi th the [NumLock] + [*] or [NumLock] + [-] combination 2. Press [A] . After you press A , you automatically exit Hotkey Mode, and enter Auto Scan Mode.
3. Hotkey Operation 19 Skip Mode This feature allows you to switch betw een computers in orde r to monitor th em manually. You can dwell on a partic ular port for as long or as little as you like - as opposed to Auto Scanning, whic h automatically switches after a fixed interval.

21 Chapter 4 OSD Operation This chapter provides a complete descrip tion of the procedures involved in the OSD (On Screen Display) operation of your ACS1208 / ACS1216 installatio n. OSD Overview The On Screen Display (OSD) is a menu d riven method to handle computer control and switchi ng operations.
ACS1208 / ACS1216 User Manual 22 OSD Main Screen When you invoke the OSD, a screen similar to the one below appears: Note: 1. The diagram depicts the Administra tor's Main Screen. The User Main Screen does not show the F4 and F6 functions, since these are reserved for the Administrator and can't be accessed by ordinary Users.
4. OSD Operation 23 OSD Navigation T o dismiss the menu, and deactivate OSD, Click the X at the upper right corner of the OSD Wi ndow; or press [Esc] .

For example, you can: rapidly switch to any port; scan selected ports only; limit the list you wish to view; designate a port as a Quick Vi ew Port; create or edit a port name; or make OSD setting adjustments.
4. OSD Operation 25 F2 LIbST : This function le ts you broaden or narr ow the scope of which ports th e OSD displays (lists) on the Main Screen. Many of the OSD func tions only operate on the compters currently selected for Li sting on the Main Screen with this function.
ACS1208 / ACS1216 User Manual 26 F3 SET : This function allows the Administrato r and each User to set up his own working environment. A separate profile for each is stored by the OSD and is activated according to the Username that wa s provided during Login.
4. OSD Operation 27 (Continued from previous page.) Setting Function PORT ID DISPLA Y MODE Selects how the Port ID is displayed: the Port Number alo ne ( PORT NUMBER ); the Port Name alone ( PORT NAME ); or the Port Number plus the Port Name ( PORT NUMBER + PORT NAME ).
ACS1208 / ACS1216 User Manual 28 F4 ADM: F4 is an Administrator only fun ction. It allows the A dministrator to con figure and control the overall oper ation of the OSD. To change a setting Double Click it; or use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to m ove th e highlight bar to it then press [Enter] .

4. OSD Operation 31 F5 SKP: Clicking the F5 field or pressing [F5] invokes Skip (SK P) Mode. This function enables you to easily skip backward or forward - switc hing the console focus from the currently active computer port to the pr evious or next available one.
ACS1208 / ACS1216 User Manual 32 F6 BRC: F6 is an Administrator only functio n. Clicking the F6 field, or pressing [F6] , invokes Broadcast (BRC) Mode. When th is function is in effect, commands sent from the console are broadcast to to all available computers on the installation.
4. OSD Operation 33 F7 SCAN: Clicking the F7 field or pressing [F7] invokes Auto Scan Mode. This function allows you to automatically sw itch am ong the available computers at regular intervals so that you can monito r their activity witho ut hav ing to take the trouble of switching yo ursel f.
ACS1208 / ACS1216 User Manual 34 F8 LOUT : Clicking the F8 field, or pressing [F8] logs you out of OSD contro l of the computers, and blanks the Console scr een. This is different from simply pressing [Esc] when you are at the Main Scr een to deactivate the OSD.
35 Chapter 5 The Firmware Upgrade Utility The Windows-based Firmware Upgrade Uti lit y (FWUpg rade.exe) provides a smooth, automated process for u pgrading the KVM switch's firmware. New firmware upgrad e packages are posted on our web site as new firmware revisions become available.
