13 Getting Started 1 Powering the Camera Install batteries in the camera. Us e on e CR-V3, or use two AA Ni-MH batteries, or AA alkaline batteries. Turn off the camera when setting batteries. Wipe away water or dirt from the camera with a dry cloth before setting b atteries.
14 1 Getting Started • T hese figures are based on PENTAX meas uring conditions. They may var y by Capture mode or shooting conditions. You can check the battery level with the * displ ay on the LCD monitor.
15 1 Getting Started When using the LCD monitor fo r a long time or when connecting to your PC, we recommend using the AC adapter D-AC5 (sold separately). 1 Make sure the camera is tur ned off before openin g the terminal cover. 2 Connect the DC terminal on the AC adapt er to the DC input terminal on the camera.
16 1 Getting Started Installing / Removing the SD Memory Card The image or recorded sound is recorded on the SD Memory Card. Be sure the camera is turned off before inserting or removing the SD Memory Card. Turn off the camera before se tting or removing the card.
17 1 Getting Started Set recorded image size (the number of pixels) and quality to suit the intended purpose for the image . The higher the numbers for record ed image size and the more stars in the ratin gs for image quality, the cl earer the image when printed.

19 1 Getting Started •P r e caut io ns when using an SD Memory Card • M ake sure the camera is turned off before opening the battery/card cover. • The SD Me mory Card has a write-protect switch. Moving the switch to the [Lock] position prevents the recording and erasing of data and the for matting of the car d and protects all saved data.
20 1 Getting Started Turning the Camera On and Off 1 Press the power switch. The camera will tu rn on. Press the power switch ag ain to turn the came ra off. When the camera is turned on, the camera automatically che cks for a card. If there is no SD Memory Card inside the camera, h appears on the LCD monitor.

26 2 Quick Start Quick Start Taking Still Pictures This is the simp lest way to take still pictures. The flash discharges automatically base d on light cond itions by the default setting. 1 Press the power switch. The camera will tu rn on. 2 Confirm the subject and sho oting information on the LCD monitor.
27 2 Quick Start The shutter relea se button works in two steps. • Press halfway Lightly press (halfway) the shutter rel ease button to lock the focus position, exposure, and white balance. The shutter speed and aperture settings ar e only displayed when pressing the shutter release button halfway.
28 2 Quick Start Quick Start Playing Back Still Pictures To play back still pictures: 1 Press the Playback but ton after taking a picture. The captured image i s displayed on th e LCD monitor. You can play back still pictures, cycling through one at a time.
29 2 Quick Start While the image is displa yed, press the i button to display the Delete screen. Press th e four-way controller ( 2 ) to select Delete, and press OK. The image is d eleted. Pressing the Playback button once again or lightly pressing (halfway) the shutte r release button makes the camera ready to capture images.

36 4 Taking Pictures Taking Pictures Setting the Capture Functions Capture mode is for taking pictures. Playback mode is for playing back or erasing images and sound.

40 4 Taking Pictures Select the number of recorded pixels from 2288×1712 1600×1200, 1024×768, 640×4 80. The more pixels there are, the larger the image size and file size. The image file size will also differ according to quality level setti ngs. 1 Press the MENU button in Capture mode.

53 4 Taking Pictures Using the software p rovided with the camera (ACDSe e for PENTAX, ACD PhotoStitcher), you can easily join several images togethe r to create a panorama photograph. Join ing captured photograph s so that the images overlap end to end in Panorama Assist mode results in a single panorama photograph.
54 4 Taking Pictures 5 Take the first picture. Press the shutter rele ase button to take the first picture. The right edge of t he image is displayed in transparen t form at the left of the LCD monitor. 6 Move the camera to the right, and take the secon d picture.

59 4 Taking Pictures You can use th e Zoom to take p ictures in Tele or Wide mode. 1 Press the Zoom button in Capture mode. x Tele: Subjec t becomes larger. w Wide: Subject becomes smaller. When the digital zoom f unction is disabled, the optical zoo m can be used to enlarge the subject up to 2.

61 4 Taking Pictures Use EV Compensation when you want to intentionally over expose (brighten) or under expose (darken) your picture. 1 Press the four-way con troller ( 45 ) in Capture mode. 5 Adjusts the exposure to over-expose (+ side), 4 Adjusts the exposure to under- expose (- side).
62 4 Taking Pictures You can take moving pictures. The re cording time for a single movie is displayed at the top right of the LCD monitor. Sound can be recorded at the same time. You can select ei ther 640×480, 320 ×240, or 160×120 for recorded pixels in Moving Picture mode 1 p.
63 4 Taking Pictures 5 Press the shutter relea se button down fully. Recording will end. The remaining available recording time is displayed. If you hold down the shutter release button for one second or more, the camera will record while you hold down the button.
64 4 Taking Pictures In Moving Picture mode, you can select either 640×480 , 320×240, or 160×120 for the number of recorded pixels (re solution). The more pixels there a re, the larg er the image size but the smaller the recording time. 1 Press the MENU button in Capture mode.
65 4 Taking Pictures You can record a moving picture in one of three Color mode settings: full- color, black-and-white, or sepia. 1 Press the MENU button in Capture mode. The [ A Rec. Mode] menu will be di splayed . 2 Select [Movie] on the [ A Rec. Mode] menu.
66 4 Taking Pictures You can select a frame rate of 15 fps or 30 fps (frames per second). A frame rate of 30 fps yields twice t he number of frames as a frame rate 15 fps, resulting in smoother movi ng i mages. However, because i mage size also doubles at 30 fps, less time is availab le for shooting.

68 4 Taking Pictures Saving the Settings You can choose whether to save the set values when the came ra is turned off. If you select On, the camera saves the settings in effect just before the camera is turned off. If you select Off, the se ttings return to default settings when the camera is turned off.

70 5 Recording/Play back Recording/Playback Recording Sound (Voice Recording Mode) This mode is for recording sound. The recordab le time is displayed on the LCD monitor according to how much me mory is available on the SD Memory Card. 1 Press the O button in Cap ture mode.
71 5 Recording/Play back Playing Back Sound You can play back the recording you made in Voice Recordi ng mode. 1 Enter the Playback mode and choose the recording you want to play with th e four-way controlle r ( 45 ). 2 Press the four-way contr oller ( 2 ).
72 5 Recording/Play back Adding a Voice Memo You can add a Voice memo to a recorded ima ge. 1 Enter the Playback mode and choose the image t o which you want to add a Voice memo with the four-way controller ( 45 ). If the image has no Voic e memo, the start mark for recording a Voice memo is displayed on the LCD monitor.
73 5 Recording/Playbac k The image and sound with Voice memo can be set as the Voice message in your camera. The O button blinks and notices you that the Voice message is being set. 1 Enter Playback mode and use the four-way controller ( 45 ) to sele ct the image to be used for t he Voice message from the images with Voice memos added.

76 6 Playback/Deletin g You can display n ine images at the same time. 1 Enter the Playback mode and cho ose the image you want to place in the ce nter with the four-way controller ( 45 ). 2 Press w / f on the Zoom/ f / y button. Nine images wi ll be displaye d with the selected image in the cen ter.

79 6 Playback/Deletin g Deleting Images Delete saved images or sounds one by one. 1 Enter the Playbac k mode and choos e the image/sound you want to delete with the fou r-way controller ( 45 ). 2 Press the i button. The Delete screen will be displaye d.
80 6 Playback/Deletin g If an image has a Voice memo (indicated with U ), you can delete the Voice memo wi thout deleting the image. 1 Enter the Playback mode and cho ose the image with the Voice memo that you wa nt to delete with the four- way controller ( 45 ).

84 6 Playback/Deletin g Viewing Images on a TV By using th e AV cable, you can captu re and play b ack images o n a TV or other equipme nt with a video IN jack. Make sure that both the TV and the camera are turned off before connecting the cable. 1 Open th e terminal co ver and c onnect the AV cable.
85 7 Printing Printing Setting the Printing Service (DPOF) You can print the images on the SD Memory Card u sing a DPOF (Digital Print Order Format) compati ble printer or at a printing service. Set the following items for each image. Number of prints: Set the number of prints .
86 7 Printing 4 Use the four-way con troller ( 45 ) to select eithe r O (On) or P (Off) for im printing the date. O : The date will be imprint ed. P : The dat e will not be imprinted. 5 Press the OK button. Prints can be made according to t he settings.

88 7 Printing Connecting the Came ra Directly to a Printer to Print Using the USB Cable I-U SB7 (included), you ca n connect the camera to a printer that supports the PictBri dge standard in order to print images directly from the ca mera without using a personal computer.

92 8 Editing/Settin gs Editing/Settings Editing Images By changing the size and quality of a selected image, you can make the file smaller than the original. After chang ing the size, the image can be saved as a new image or written over the original image.

95 8 Editing/Settin gs The filters consist of color filters such as red, blue , and green, a soft filter that produces a fuzzy effe ct, and a brightness filter that adjusts the brightness of the image. In Digital Filt er mode , these filters can be used to edit an image.
