1 To users of this camera • Do not use or sto re this device in the vic inity of equipme nt that generates strong electro magnetic radiat ion or magnetic fie lds.
2 Warning • Do not at tem pt to take the camera apart or modify t he cam era. High voltages are present within the camera, and there is a danger of electr ic shock if the camera is taken apart.
3 Warning • Always use the battery charger and AC adapter ex clusively developed for this product, with the specified power and voltage. U sing a battery char ger or AC adapter not exclusive t o thi.
4 Warning • Be sure to store the battery out of the reach of sm all children. Placing it in their mouths may c ause an electric shock. • If any leakage from the bat tery should c ome in contact with your eyes, it may cause a loss of sight. Flush your eyes with clean water and get medical attention immediately.
5 • When traveling, take the Worldwide Service Network listing t h at is included in the package. This w ill be useful if y ou experience problems abroad. • When the camera ha s not been us ed for a long time, confirm that it is still working properly, particularly prior to t aking important pict ures (such as at a wedding or when traveling).
6 • If the camera is subjected to rapid temperature changes, condensat ion may form on the inside and outside of the camera. Therefore put the camera in a bag or plastic bag and take the camera out when the difference in temperature has subsided. • Avoid contact with garbage, mud, sand, dust, water, toxic gases, or salts.
7 • The SD Memory Card is equipped with a write-protect sw itch. Setting the switch to LOCK prevents new data from being recorded on t he card, the st ored data from being deleted, and the card from being formatted by the camera or a computer. r appears on t he display when the car d is write-protected.
8 Regarding Waterproof, Dustpro of, and Shockproof Design • This camera is provided with a waterproof/dustproof design complying with JIS waterproof grade 8 and JIS dustpro of grade 6 (equivalent to IP68). • The camera satisf ies the PENTA X drop test (1 .
9 • Close the battery/card and terminal covers properly until t hey click. Otherwise water may get in and damage t he camera. • Avoid opening the battery/card and terminal covers when near the waterside or with wet hands. W ait until the camera is completely dry before changing the battery or the SD M emory Card.
10 • Do not open the battery/card cover or terminal cov er if the camera is wet. Wipe off any water with a clean lint-free cloth. • The inside surface of t he covers may get wet when t hey are opened. Wipe off any water that is on the c over. • Wiping off the camera while there is sand or dust on it may scratch the surface of the camera.

18 Camera Features In addi tion to basic pictur e-taking, thi s camera has a variety of sho oting modes to suit di fferent situa tions. This section descri bes how to make the mo st of the key features of your camera . For details on how to op erate the came ra, look at t he table of content s or in the i ndex for specifi c function s.
19 The user-friendly des ign of the camera enables easy operation with only a few b uttons. Simply by choosing the appropriate icon, you can select the shooting mode (p.67) and choose the optimal settings for the situation, or the playba ck mode (p.128) and enjoy the various playback and edit ing functions.
20 This camera com es with a “Face Detection” function that spots t he faces in your shot and automatically adjust s the focus and expos ure for the faces. It can detect up to 32 peop le per shot (*1), so it will help you take perfect gr oup shots too.

33 1 Getting Started Poweri ng the Camera Use the supplied battery charger (D-BC 92) to char ge the supplied rechargeable lithium-ion battery (D-LI92) before using it in the camera for the first time or after a long period of non-use, or wh en the [Battery depleted] message appears.

If the c amera detects that the subject’s e yes are closed while F ace Detection (p.69) is activated, the message [Closed eyes have been detected] appears for 3 seconds (Blink Detection).

69 3 Taking Pict ures When the camera detects a person’s face in the image , the Fa ce Dete ction f uncti on dis plays a yello w face de tect ion frame aroun d the fac e on the display screen, sets the focus (Face Detection AF) and compensates the exposure (Face Detection AE).
70 3 Taking Pict ures By default, the Fa ce Detection f unction is set to Face Detection On. You can switch to the Smile Capture function, wh ich automatically releases the shutter when your subject smiles.

72 3 Taking Pict ures The LED Macro Lights around t he lens blink when the camera detect s people faces in the S elf-portrait Assist or Self-portrait Assist + Smile Capt ure function. The position of the bli nking LED indicates where the detected face is on the screen.

81 3 Taking Pict ures In Self-timer mode, the picture is tak en ten seconds or two seconds after the shutter release button is pressed. Stabilize the camera with a tripod or other suppor t when taking a picture with the self-timer. 1 Press the fou r-way controller ( 2 ) in A mode .
82 3 Taking Pict ures The pict ure is taken aft er a c ountdown of either ten sec onds or two seconds. Pictures are taken c ontinuously as long as the s hutter release button is pressed. * The number of images that can be shot continu ously and the int erval between shots depend on s hooting situatio ns.

About the red-eye phenomenon Taking pictur es using the fla sh may cause the subj ect’s eyes to ap pear red in the resulti ng picture. This ph enomenon occurs when the light fro m the fla sh is reflecte d in the subject’s eyes.

93 3 Taking Pict ures 5 Press the 4 button. The focus is fi xed and the camera return s to capture mode. After th e focus is fixed, y ou can press the four- way controller ( 5 ) aga in to display the indicator and read just the focus. You can change the autofoc us area (Focusing Area).
94 3 Taking Pict ures When [Auto Macro] is on, the focus is adjusted to the macro range (distance to the subject is 10 cm to 60 cm) as necessa ry , even if the focus mode set ting is AF (Standard).
