10 C2953M-A (5/09) PRODUCT LABEL The produc t label lists the model numb er , date c ode, serial number , an d Media Acce ss Control (MA C) address. This informat ion mi gh t be required for setup. T o access th e product label remove the back cover of the camera (refer to Figure 2 and Figure 3).

C2953M-A (5/09) 13 SERVICE CABLE The camera includes a service co nnector that outputs camer a video. Use it at the installation site to set up the field of view and to focus the camera. Pelco offers an optional service cable (IX-SC) that p lugs directly into the se rvice connec tor .
14 C2953M-A (5/09) WIRING CAT5 CABLE Connect a Cat5 cable t o the RJ-45 network connector . The 8-pin co nnector includes vid eo and PoE f or the came ra. PoE (IEE E 802.3 af) injects power over th e same cabling th at carries th e network data , eliminating t he need for a se parate power su pply .
C2953M-A (5/09) 15 Connecting a Rel ay Device The camera ha s an output for a ctivating an exte rnal device. It supports both momentary a nd continuous relay operation. Y ou can operate t he relay in teractively during an ac tive connect ion, or it c an operate au tomatically to coincide wit h certain e vents.
16 C2953M-A (5/09) Unsupervised Alarms When an a larm is configured as an unsupervised alarm, the cam era only activate s an alarm whe n the normal alarm state (o pen or c losed) changes. Figure 12 illus trates the al arm and no a larm conditions of an unsuper vised alarm in put.

T ime Server: T he external server tha t uses Netwo rk T ime Protocol (NTP) to syn chronize the camera date and time set tings. T ime Zone: The geographic area that is closest to the came ra’ s physical location.

28 C2953M-A (5/09) IMAGING T AB Use the Imaging tab to change the camera orientation or to adju st digital processing, exposure, focu s, tone map, and white bala nce. GENERAL The general imagi ng settings allow you to change the camera ’ s orientation and adju st digital proces sing.
C2953M-A (5/09) 29 Digital Processing The digital processing s ettings adju st the camera’ s shar pness, satur ation, and con trast. Digit al processin g can be set to Auto or Manual. When set to Auto, the camera continu a lly delivers the best possible im age by automatically adjusting the digit al processing settings based on the scene.
30 C2953M-A (5/09) EXPOSURE Exposure is the amount of light dete cted by the camera senso r . A scene wit h correct exposure set tings has a dequate de tail and c ontrast betwe en white and da rk values. An image with too li ttle or to o much exposur e eliminates detail in th e scene.
C2953M-A (5/09) 31 Auto Exposure Auto exposure a utomatically sets the a mount of light detecte d by the camera sensor b ased on setting s for light co ntrol, exposu r e compensation, and the day and nigh t exposure times. Light Control: Sets the mechan ism that controls the exp osure time of the ca mera.
32 C2953M-A (5/09) Manual Expo sure Manual ex posure sets the amount of light det ected by th e camera s ensor based on a user-defined settin g. Manual exposure is re co mmended only for ind oor applica tions that have a single unchanging primary light source.
C2953M-A (5/09) 33 DAY NIGHT Day Night co ntrols the po sition of th e IR cut filt er , which det ermines the color or black -white setti ng of the camera .
34 C2953M-A (5/09) FOCUS Use the Focus page to select either Auto back focus or Manual back focus, adjust the available settings, or reset the back focu s to factory defaults .
C2953M-A (5/09) 35 Manual Focus Manual focus turns off the auto focus mechanism and locks the camera at a user-specified po sition. The camera will not focus if changes in th e scene occur . This setting is recommended f or indoor app lications th at have a sing le unchangin g primary ligh t source or f or vide o analy tic application s.
36 C2953M-A (5/09) TO N E M A P T one map balances the brighte st and darkest sections of an image to pro duce a picture with more balanc ed lighting and more deta il. Th is is accomplished, in part, when the device map s the 10-bit i nput sensor data (0 to 1023 bits) into 8- bit output RGB values (0 to 25 5 bits).
C2953M-A (5/09) 37 WHITE BALANCE White balance settings de fine how the ca mera processe s video images to render tr ue colors in a scene. White balance is es pecial ly effective in scenes with ch anging light ing conditio ns or in s cenes with more t han one ty pe of ligh t source.
38 C2953M-A (5/09) Manual White Balance While the Auto mo de will cover most scenes, t he camera canno t account for every possible scene. In some installatio ns, use manu al white balance to render the mos t accurate image color p ossible.
C2953M-A (5/09) 39 V IDEO STREAMS T AB Use the Video Streams tab to sele ct a preset camera configu ration or to configure custom vide o stream set tings. SELECT PRESET Several pres et camera conf igurations, which include p rimary and s econdary video stream sett ings, are ava ilable for e asy setup.
40 C2953M-A (5/09) CUSTOM CONFIGURATION The camer a features dual video streams with programmable settings for compressio n, resoluti on, image r ate, and bit rate.
C2953M-A (5/09) 41 Compression Stand ards JPEG: A commonly us ed compressio n scheme, al so known as MJPEG. JPEG has the leas t impact on the camera's pr ocessor but r equires the most bandwid th. H264: A ne w version of MP EG-4 compres sion used in high-definition video players such as Blu- ray ™ and HD-DVD.
42 C2953M-A (5/09) Rate Control The rate contr ol setting determines th e bit rate and quality of each fram e in the video stream. T here might be a tr ade-off betw een image qu ality and the re sources req uired for vi deo storage wh en selecting a rate con trol setting.
C2953M-A (5/09) 43 USERS AND GROUPS T AB Use the User s and Groups t ab to create and manage user accoun ts, group per missions, an d to change the way the camera manages t h e users and groups sett ings. USERS User accounts can be created an d added to gr oups to limit the pe rmission s given to individua ls logged on to the ca mera.

C2953M-A (5/09) 49 EVENTS T AB Use the Events tab to program sources and handlers to man age camera events. SOURCES An event is a preprogra mmed camera function that is auto matically activated by an event source. Th e camera supports three types of event sources.
