Use the mo use, remote con trol, or f ront panel cont rols to op erate and configure th e unit. This section describ es the appl ication window, GUI toolbar , Setup menu, PTZ co ntrol, and on -screen keyb oard .
C4631M (11/0 9) 9 GUI T OOLBAR The GUI tool bar is used t o access the Set up menu, dia log boxes, and c ontrols that allow you to op erate and c onfigure the DVR. Y ou can use the mouse to easily and quickly chang e settings and to operate the system.
10 C4631M (11/09) PTZ CONTROL The PTZ con trol is avail able for came ras that su pport PTZ fu nctions usin g Pelco P an d D protocol s. It is also a vailable for sup ported third-pa rty dome cameras. NOTE: When operating th ird-party cameras, the PTZ control suppo rts the up, down, left, right, zoom in, and zoom ou t functions.

16 C4631M (11/09) INSTANT PLAYBACK The unit su pports two play back modes, instant playba ck and playb ack. Instant pl ayback is init iated from the li ve view mode. Th e DVR simultaneousl y plays back and re cords live video. Live quad view is not available duri ng instan t playback.
C4631M (11/0 9) 17 PTZ IN LIVE VI EW The DVR displ ays a control f or operatin g PTZ cameras. T he PTZ opti on must be conf igured for e ach camera to u se the PTZ c ontrol. • Programming: T o prog ram or clear preset s, preset tours, a nd patterns, the SET button must be engaged.
18 C4631M (11/09) ACTIVATING PATTERNS A pattern is a user-defined, viewable camera path with a spe cified beginni ng and end. Patterns are made up of a sequ ence of sta nd ard pan/tilt and lens comma nds. Patterns are stored in t he internal me mory of the PTZ device that is connected to the D X4104.
C4631M (11/0 9) 19 PTZ PATTERNS Programming a Pattern 1. Click SET . The camera is now in the programming mode. 2. Click a number represent ing the pattern (1 to 4). 3. Click P A TTERN. 4. Move the camera throug h a series o f movements using the on-scree n PTZ and foc us controls.
20 C4631M (11/09) ACKNOWLEDGING AN ALARM OR MOTION EVENT The DX4104 allow s you to manually acknowledge an event state that ha s activated a relay output. By default, the DVR’ s outp ut re lay is turn ed off when the post-alarm time expires. Acknowledging an alarm or moti on event do es not end alarm or motion event recording .

T o vi ew system informatio n, click Informat ion . The Syst em Information screen displa ys all system information.
22 C4631M (11/09) SEARCH V IDEO The search feature allows you to use t he date/time, e vent, and book mark search fea ture to find and play ba ck video stor ed to th e unit. Y ou can use the date/t ime and event s earch features to view backed u p video stored o n a USB or CD/DVD med ia.

C4631M (11/0 9) 29 PTZ MODE The DX4104 su pports up to four serial PT Z cameras . Multiple PTZ came ras can be connected a nd controlled individually by daisy-c haining the camera connect ions. The uni t also allows you to assign each camera a PTZ co ntrol addres s.
30 C4631M (11/09) VIDEO FORMAT 1. From the Ca mera menu, click Video. 2. Click the Video For mat box, and then select NT SC or PAL. (NTSC is the default. ) A warning mess age appears. 3. Click OK. The unit reformats the HDD and restarts au tomatically .

Y ou can conf igure each camera to reco rd at a diffe rent resolut ion, quality, and image rate to capture motion-triggered vi deo. Y ou must configur e the respective camera for mo tion recording before the un it will respond to a motion event.
C4631M (11/0 9) 33 INSTANT MOTION RECORD MODE The unit allows you to manua lly start and stop the ins tant recording mode. Y ou can configure each camera to record at a differe nt resolution, quality , an d image rate to capture i nstant recor ding video.
34 C4631M (11/09) SCHEDULE MENU The scheduli ng feature allo ws you to creat e daily , weekly, and holiday schedules for each chan nel. Up to 10 d ifferent holi day s chedules can be created. If a holiday sched ule occurs on the same date as a weekday schedu le, the holiday schedule w ill override the weekday sc hedule.

NOTE: The preala rm and postalarm r ecording sett ings are confi gured in the normal recordi ng option o n the Camera menu. Re fer to Normal Record Mode on pa ge 30 for more information.
C4631M (11/0 9) 41 RELAY OUTPUT SETUP Y ou can configur e how the relay o utput is controll ed: alarm ackno wledge or post- alarm time. The re lay out OFF sett ing does not control the actual alarm record ing function. T urn ing off the r elay outpu t does not te rminate the al arm recordin g mode.
42 C4631M (11/09) NETWORK MENU Y ou must conf igure the DVR network settings to use the following features: • Client software application: Allows you to operate an d administer up to sixteen DX4 1 04 serv ers. The DX41 04 server supp orts up to f ive simultaneous connections whe n using the clie nt and Web client applic ations.
C4631M (11/0 9) 43 DDNS SETUP The DDNS feature use s the services provided by No-IP ™ . Prior registrat ion with No-IP to obtain a user name and pa ssword is required before configuring t he DVR. The DDNS fea ture uses port 8 245 provided by No-IP .
44 C4631M (11/09) • Mail Address (1 to 3): User’ s e-mail add ress. Supports up to 24 characters inclu ding a to z, A to Z, numerals 0 to 9, and specia l characters . The SMTP server IP address, port number , user name, and passwo rd are optional settings.
C4631M (11/0 9) 45 SYSTEM MENU The system settings should be configured before the unit is put into service. Some of the se ttings affect how video data is sto red and backed up . The setting s can also aff ect how the uni t is operated an d administer ed from a remot e client applic ation.
46 C4631M (11/09) NTP SETUP The unit’ s internal time can be sync hronized with an external time source using the Ne twork T ime Prot ocol (NTP ) Date/T ime conf i gurati on option . • NTP: Sychronizes t he DVR’ s time. This fe ature must be s et to ON befo re the NTP se rver is selec ted.
C4631M (11/0 9) 47 USER ACCOUNT SETUP User accounts ca n be added, changed, or delete d. By default, both the user name a nd password for user number 01 are admin; on ly the password can be changed. The user ID (admin) and Level (Administrat or) for user 01 cannot be chang ed.

C4631M (11/0 9) 49 Deleting a User T o delete a user: 1. From the System menu, click User . 2. Click the Number box to select an ID. 3. Click Delete. The user assigned to the selected ID is deleted. 4. Click Close. 5. Click OK. UPDATE SOFTWARE The update fe ature allows you to upg rade DVR software and add or upgrade PTZ prot ocols.
50 C4631M (11/09) Updating Over the Network T o update over the networ k: 1. From the System menu, click Update. 2. Click the Selection box, and then select a setting. 3. Click the Method box, an d then select NETWORK. 4. Click the Up date Server bo x, and then type the updat e server IP ad dress.
C4631M (11/0 9) 51 • Format: Initializes all insta lled HDDs. The System Information dialog box lists the inst alled drives and their respective ca pacities. I f you install a ne w drive, the s ystem prompts you to format the drive. When you format th e drive, all data on the d rive is erased.
52 C4631M (11/09) BACKUP SCHEDULE SETUP The backup feature allows you to perform an instant backup of recorded da ta. It also allows you to configure the system to perf orm an automatic backup of d ata on a sched uled basis. You must have administr ator permis sions for sett ing up and c onducting bac kup procedu res.
C4631M (11/0 9) 53 Instant Backup The instant backu p feature allows you to manually back up data . The backup settings unique to the instant ba ckup mode are as fo llows: • Schedule Start: Unavailable and is not used. • T ime Range Date: Sets the da te of the bac kup process.

The week b egins at 00:00 hours on Mond ay and ends at 23:59 hours on Sunday . Data can be backed up for one or more days and from one minute to 24 ho urs.

58 C4631M (11/09) SYSTEM IR Remote ID The infrared (IR) ID feature allows you to transmit a unique IR Remote ID (01 to 09) from the remote control to one o r more DVR s. Each DVR that is preconfig ured with the transmitted ID can respond t o and be op erated by the re mote control.
