2.3 DESCRIPTION The Model 2120 Single P or t T er minal Ser v er (see Figure 1) provides a quick, easy to use solution f or connecting traditional RS-232 terminals and de vices to the Local Ethernet/IP Networ k. The Model 2120 can also function as a very cost effectiv e single por t remote access ser v er .
The Model 2120 is initially configured via the serial interface using a dumb terminal or ter minal emulation software in VT -100 mode. The serial interf ace f actor y def ault asynchronous setting is 9600 bits/second, 8 bits per character , no par ity , and 1 stop bit.
SLIP operation provides a de vice connected to the Model 2120 serial interf ace with LAN connectivity . The Model 2120 and the device con- nected to the serial interface e xchange IP packets where each IP pac ket is SLIP encapsulated.
3.0 CONFIGURATION 3.1 CONFIGURATION SWITCHES SW1 is a set of f our inter nal DIP s witches (see Figure 2) that are used f or configuration reset purposes only . T o access s witch set SW1, use a small flat blade scre wdr iv er to open the Model 2120’s case as sho wn in Figure 3.

4.0 INSTALLATION Once the Model 2120 is configured, it is ready to connect to the serial interf ace of the RS-232 de vice, to the Ether net interf ace, and to the power source . The Model 2120 is designed to connect an asynchronous RS-232 de vice to other de vices via the LAN/10Base-T interface.
A C Po wer Supply (100-240V AC) The Model 2120/??/UI uses a +5VDC , 2A universal input, po wer supply that is equipped with a male IEC-320 power entry connector and sup- por ts a voltage r ange of 100-240V A C. This po w er supply connects to the Model 2120 by means of a cannon jac k on the rear panel.
5.0 OPERATION After configuring and installing the Model 2120, you are ready f or opera- tion. This section describes the operation of the Model 2120 Single P or t T er minal Server . 5.1 LED STATUS INDICATORS The Model 2120 f eatures se ven top panel LEDs and two rear panel LEDs.

Note The DCD LED is an indicator of whether the 2120 is configured for DCE or DTE oper ation. When configured f or DCE, the DCD LED will glow constantly e xcept for when a session is being ter- minated. When configured f or DTE, the DCD LED will only glo w when a connection is established with the serial interf ace.
