19 Before Using 1 Turn off the Power. 2 Open the LCD Monitor and then open the Card Slot Cover. Inserting/Removing a Card Using a Memory Card (Optional) (For PV-GS39/PV-GS59) A Card can be used to record still pictures. • Use a genuine SD Memory Card manufactured by Panasonic only.
20 While the Camcorder is accessing the Card (reading, recording, playback or erasing), the Card Access Lamp lights up. • While the Card Access Lamp is on, never attempt to open the Card Slot Cover, to pull out the Card, to turn off the Camcorder, or to turn the Mode Dial.
21 Before Using • The power will not turn off if the LCD Monitor is closed and the Viewfinder is retracted. • The [STATUS] Indicator 2 automatically goes off and the power turns off. (If Quick Start is set to [ON] (p. 34), the unit goes into Quick Start standby mode and the [STATUS] Indicator lights Green.
22 2 Adjust the LCD Monitor angle according to the desired recording angle. • The LCD Monitor can rotate a maximum of 180° 1 from the vertical position upwards and a maximum of 90° 2 to the downward direction. Forcefully rotating the LCD Monitor beyond these ranges will damage the Camcorder.

29 Before Using POWER SAVE Set [ SETUP] >> [ POWER SAVE] >> [5 MINUTES] or [OFF]. [OFF]: When about 5 minutes passed without any operation, the standby mode automatically will be set. In the standby mode, [ ] blinks and it takes time more than usual to start recording after you press the Recording Start/Stop Button.
30 About Recording • When recording pictures on a tape, set the Mode Dial to Tape Recording Mode [ ]. • When recording still pictures on a card, set the Mode Dial to Card Recording Mode [ ] (For PV-GS39/PV-GS59).

36 Digital Zoom Function This function is useful when you want to record close-up shots of subjects located beyond a normal zoom range of 1× to 30× magnification. With the Digital Zoom Function, you can select a magnification from 50× up to 1000×.

Recording Mode 39 Wind Noise Reduction Function This function reduces the sound of wind hitting the microphone when recording. • Set to Tape Recording Mode. 1 Set [ BASIC] >> [ WIND CUT] >> [ON]. • The [ ] Indication appears. To Cancel the Wind Noise Reduction Function Set [ BASIC] >> [ WIND CUT] >> [OFF].

Playback Mode 51 A/V Playing Back on Your TV By connecting your Camcorder with your TV, the recorded scenes can be viewed on your TV screen. • Before connecting them, turn off the power of both the Camcorder and TV. 1 Insert a recorded tape into this Camcorder.
52 To Display the On-screen Information on the TV The information displayed on the LCD Monitor or the Viewfinder (One-Touch Navigation icon, time code and mode indication, etc.), date and time can be displayed on the TV. 1 Press the [EXT DISPLAY] Button on the Remote Control.

56 Using Camcorder with a PC An image stored on the DV Cassette or Memory Card can be transferred to your personal computer. Software Installation (For Windows) (PV-GS59 Only) 1 Turn on the personal computer and start up Windows. 2 Insert the CD-ROM into the personal computer’s CD-ROM drive.
With a PC 57 Operating environment Install the USB Driver first before connecting the Camcorder to your PC with the USB Cable. • When DirectX9.0b is installed, applications supported by previous versions of DirectX may not run. In this case, consult the manufacturers of the disabled applications.

Wipe it with a soft dry cloth. • If your Camcorder is extremely cold when you turn its power on, the image on the LCD Monitor is slightly darker than usual at first.
