Before Use - 8 - How to Use the T ouch Panel This touch panel is a type that detect s pressure. Note • If you use a co mmercially avai lable li quid cryst al protec tion shee t, please fol low the ins tructio ns that accomp any the shee t. (Some liquid crystal pro tection sheet s may impair visibility or operabilit y .
- 9 - Preparation Preparation Charging the Battery ∫ About batteries that you can use with this unit Suppli ed batter y or dedicat ed optiona l batter ies can be used wit h this unit. Refer to Basic Owner ’s Manual about t he accessory number of t he available optional batteries in your ar ea.
Preparation - 10 - ∫ About th e [CH ARGE] i ndicat or The [CHARGE] indicator tu rns on: The [CHARGE] indicator A is turned on during charging. The [CHARGE] indicator tu rns off: The [CHARGE] indicator A will turn off once the charging has completed wit hout any problem.
- 11 - Preparation ∫ Battery indication The battery indication is displayed on the LCD monitor . • The indic ation turns red and blinks if t he remaining bat t ery power is exh austed. Rec harge the battery or rep lace it with a fully charged battery .
Preparation - 12 - Note • The operating times and number of recordable pic tures will differ according to the environme nt and the operating conditions. For example , in the following cases, the oper ating ti mes short en and th e number of reco rdable pictures is reduced.
- 13 - Preparation Inserting and Removin g the Card (optiona l)/the Battery • Check that this unit is turned of f. • We reco mmend using a Pana s onic ca rd. Slide t he card/battery door t o open it. • Always use g enuine Panasonic ba tteries. • If you use othe r batteries, we cann ot guarantee the quality of this product.
Preparation - 14 - The AC Adapto r (optional) ca n only be used with the designated P anasonic DC Coupler (optional ). The AC adapt or (optio nal) cannot be used by itsel f. 1 Open the card/battery door . 2 Insert the DC coupler , being careful of the direction.
- 15 - Preparation About the Built-in Memory /the Card • Y ou can copy the recor ded pictures to a card. ( P100) • Memory size: Approx. 70 MB • The access time for th e built-in memory may be longe r than the acce ss time for a car d. The following operations c an be perform ed using this unit.
Preparation - 16 - The following cards which conform t o the SD video standard can be used with this unit. (These cards are indicated as card in the text. ) ¢ SD S peed Class is the s peed stand ard regarding continu ous writing. Check via the label on the card, et c .
- 17 - Preparation ∫ About the display of the number of reco rdable pictures and available recording time ∫ Number of recordable pictures • [ i 99999] is displa y ed if there are more than 100,000 pictures r emaining.
Preparation - 18 - Setting Date/Time (Clock Set) • The clock is not set w hen the camera is shipped. T urn the camera on. • If the l anguage se lect scree n is not displ ayed, proce ed to ste p 4 . T ouch [Language Set]. Select the language, and then to uch [Set].
- 19 - Preparation Select [Clock Set] in the [Rec] or [Setup] men u. (P34 ) • It can be chan ged in steps 5 and 6 to set the clock. • The clock setting is mainta ined for 3 months using the built-in clock battery even without the battery . (Leave the charged battery in t he unit for 24 hours t o charge the built-in battery .
Basic - 20 - Basic Selecting the [Rec] Mod e ∫ List of [Rec] Modes Note • When the mode has been switched from [Playbac k] Mode to [Rec] Mode, the previo usly set [Rec] Mode will be set. To u c h [ ] . • When oper ating from th e [Playback ] Mode, tou ch [ ] to switch to [Rec] Mode .
- 21 - Basic [Rec] Mode: ñ T aking pictures using the autom atic function (Intelligent Auto Mode) The camera will set the most appropriate settings to match the subject and the recording conditions so we recom mend this m ode for beginners or those who want to leave the settings to the camera and take pictures easily .
Basic - 22 - • Be sure to att ach the strap when using th e camera to ensure that yo u will not d rop it. • Hold the camera gently with both hands, keep your arms still at your side and stand wi th your fee t slightly ap art. • Be caref ul no t to m ove t he c amera when you pre ss the shut ter button.
- 23 - Basic When the camera identifies the optimum scene, the i con of the scene concerned is displayed in blue for 2 seconds, after which its color c hanges to the usual red. • [ ¦ ] is set if non e of the scenes are applicable, and the stan dard settings are set.
Basic - 24 - [Rec] Mode: · T aking pictures with your favor ite settings (Normal Picture M ode) The camera automatically sets the shutt er speed and the aperture value according to the brightness of the subject. Y ou can take pictures with greater freedom by changing various settings in the [Rec] menu.
- 25 - Basic Focusing Aim the AF area at the subject, and t hen press the shutter button halfway . • AF area is displ ayed larger dur ing the digit al zoom or when it is dar k . ∫ About fo cus ran ge The focus range is displayed when operating the zoom.
Basic - 26 - ∫ When the subject is not in focus (such as when it is not in the center of the composition of the picture you want to take) 1 Aim the AF area at the subject, and then press the shutter butt on halfway to fix the foc us and exposure. 2 Press and hold the shutter butt on halfwa y while moving t he camera as y ou compose the picture.

Basic - 28 - [Playback] Mode: ¸ Playing Back Picture s ([Nor mal Play]) To u c h [ ] . • The display switches to normal playback . Note • This camera complies with the DCF standar d “D esign ru.

Basic - 32 - [Playback] Mode: ¸ Deleting Pictures Once deleted, pictures cannot be recovered. • Pictures on the built-in memor y or the card that are be ing played back will be delete d. T o delete a single picture Select the picture to be delet e d, and then touch [ ].
- 33 - Basic Note • Do not turn th e c amera of f while delet ing. Use a battery with su ffici ent batt ery power or the AC adaptor (op tional) and DC coup ler (optional ). • Depending on the numbe r of pictures to be delet ed, it may t ake some time to delete them.
Basic - 34 - Setting the Menu The camera comes with menus that allow you to choose the settings for taking pict ures and playing them back just as you like and menus that enable you to have more fun with the camera and use it more easil y .

Basic - 36 - About the Setup Menu [Clock Set], [Sleep Mode] and [Auto Review] ar e important items. Check their se ttings before using them. For details on how to select the [ Setup] m enu settings, refer to P34 . • Refer to P18 for details. • Refer to P65 for details.

- 39 - Basic • Refer to P28 for information abou t how to play back pic tures. • When you play bac k pictures on a PC, th ey canno t be dis played in the rotate d direction unless the OS or software is comp atible with Exif. Exif is a file format for still pictures which allows recording information et c.
Basic - 40 - • Calibration is not done if correct posit ion is not touched. T ouch th e [ i ] mark again. • If you set a dif ferent language by mist ake, select [ ~ ] from t he menu icons to s et the desired language.
- 41 - Recording Recording About the LCD Monitor T ouch [ ] to cha nge. • During Playback Zoom, while playing bac k motion pictu res and during a slide show , you can only select “ Normal di splay D ” or “ No display F ” .
Recording - 42 - [Rec] Mode: ñ· ¿ T aking Pictures with Focus an d Exposure Set o n Subject (T ouch AF/AE) It is possible to set the focus and exposure to the subject specified on the t ouch panel. • Perform t he opera t ion af ter c anceling t he touch shut ter fu nction.
- 43 - Recording [Rec] Mode: ñ· ¿n T aking Pictures with the Zoom Y ou can zoom-in to make people and objects appear closer or zoom-out to record landscapes in wide angle. T o make subjects appear ev en closer (maximum of 18 k ), set th e [P ictu re Siz e] to [10 M] o r less.
Recording - 44 - • When u sing the Zoom function, an e stimate of the focus range will appe ar in conjunction with th e zoom display bar. [Example: 0.5 m (1.64 ft. ) – ¶ ] ¢ The mag nification level dif fers depend ing on [Picture Size] set ting.

Recording - 46 - Note • The indic ated zoom magn ification i s an approximati on. • “EZ” is an abbreviat ion of “Exten ded Optica l Zoom”. It is possible to tak e more magnified pictures wit h the Optical Zoom. • The lens barrel ext ends or retr acts ac cording to the z oom positio n.

Recording - 48 - Shortcut setting Shortcut setting allows you to quickly call up cer tain menu items. Up to 2 frequently-used menu items can be registered per [Rec]/[Playback ] Mode. • Read P66 for the [R ec] Mode menu, an d P90 for the [P layback] Mode menu.
- 49 - Recording [Rec] Mode: ¿ T aking pictures that match the s cene being recorded (Scene Mode) When you select a Scene Mode to match t he subject and r ecording situation, the cam era sets the optimal exposure and hue to obtai n the desired picture.

Recording - 52 - Select this to take pictures of yo urself. ∫ T echnique for Self Portrai t Mode • Press the shu tter butt on halfway to focus. The Sel f-timer indicat or lights up when you are brou ght into fo cus. Making sure you hold the camera still, press the shutter but ton fully to take the pictu re.
- 53 - Recording Y ou can take pictures with connections suitable for creating panorama images. ∫ Setting the recordi ng directi on 1 T ou ch the direction to t ake picture. • The horizont al/vertical gui deline will be displayed. 2 T ouch [OK]. 3 T ak e the pictu re.
Recording - 54 - Set here when you want to take pictures of sports scenes or ot her fast-moving ev ents. Note • Shutter speed may sl ow d own up to 1 second. • This mode is suita ble for ta king pictures of subject s at dist ances of 5 m (16. 4 feet) or more.
- 55 - Recording This mode allows y ou to take pictures of food w ith a natural hue without being affected by the ambient light in restaurants etc. Select this when y ou want to take pictures at a wedding reception, an indoor party etc. This allows you to take pictures of people and t he background wit h near real-life brightness.
Recording - 56 - This takes pictures of a baby with a healthy complexion. When you use the flash, the light from it is weaker t han usual. It is possible to set different birthdays and names for [Baby1] and [Baby2]. Y ou can select to have these appear at the t ime of playback, or have them stamped on the recorded image using [T ext S tamp] (P92) .
- 57 - Recording Select this when you want to t ak e pictures of a pet such as a dog or a cat. Y ou can set your pet’s birthday and nam e. For information about [Age] or [Name], refer to [ Baby1]/[Baby2] on P56 . Select this when y ou want to take pictures of a sunset view .
Recording - 58 - This is a c onvenient mode for shooting rapid movement or a decisive moment. ∫ Pictu re Size Select the picture size of 3M (4:3), 2.5M (3:2) or 2M (1 6:9). • S till pictures are taken continuously while the shutter button is pressed fully .

Recording - 60 - This mode allows you to take b eautiful pictures of fireworks exploding in the night sky . ∫ T echnique for Fire works Mode • Since the shu tter speed becomes slower , we recommend usin g a tripod. Note • This mode is most ef fective when the subject is 10 m (32.
- 61 - Recording Picture is taken darker and with sof t focus around the subjects. Note • Face Detectio n may not operate no rmally in the dark areas arou nd the edges of the screen. Picture is taken with a grainy texture as though blaste d with sand.
Recording - 62 - Record the ima ge with a frame around it. ∫ Settin g the frame Select from 3 types of frames. Note • The color of th e frame displayed on th e screen and the color of the f rame around the actual image may dif fer , but this is not a malf unction.
- 63 - Recording [Rec] Mode: ñ· ¿n Recording Useful Functio ns at T ravel Des tinations For details on the [Setup] menu settin gs, refer to P34 . If you set the dep art ure date or the travel destination of the vacation in advance, the number of days t hat have passed since the dep arture date is recorded when you take the picture.
Recording - 64 - Enter the loc ation. • For deta ils on how to enter ch arac ters, r efer to “ Enteri ng T ext ” on P84 . • Exit th e menu afte r it is set. ∫ Canceling the travel date The travel date is automatically canceled if the current date is af ter the return date.

Recording - 66 - Using the [Rec] Mode Me nu For det ails on [Rec] Mode menu setti ngs, refer to P34 . Set the flash to match the recording. Applicable modes: ñ· ¿ ¢ The flash is activated twice. The subject should not move until the s econd flash is activated.
- 67 - Recording ∫ A vailable Flash Set tings by Reco rding Mode The available flash settings depend on the Recording Mode. ( ± : Available, —: Not ava ilable, ¥ : Scene Mode initial setting) ¢ [ ] is displayed. • The flash sett ing may change if the Recording Mode is changed.
Recording - 68 - ∫ The available flash range ∫ Shutter sp eed for each flash setting ¢ 1 The shutter speed changes depending on the [S tabilizer] setting. ¢ 2 When [ ] in [Sensitivity] is set. • ¢ 1, 2: The shutter speed becomes a maxi mum of 1 second in th e following cases.

Recording - 70 - For det ails on [Rec] Mode menu setti ngs, refer to P34 . Set the number of pixels. The higher the n u mbers of pixels, the finer t he detail of the pictures will appear even when they are printed ont o large sheets. Applicable modes: ñ· ¿ ¢ This ite m cannot be set in the Int elligent Auto Mode.
- 71 - Recording For det ails on [Rec] Mode menu setti ngs, refer to P34 . This sets up the picture quality of motion pictures. Applicable modes: n ¢ Cann ot be recorded in t he built-in memory .
Recording - 72 - For det ails on [Rec] Mode menu setti ngs, refer to P34 . This allows the Sensitivity to light (ISO sensit ivity) to be set. Setting to a higher figure enables pictures to be taken even in dark plac es without the re sulting pictures coming out dark.

In sunlight, under incandescent lights or in ot her such conditions where the color of white takes on a reddish or bluish tinge, this item adjusts to the color of whit e which is closest to what is seen by the eye i n ac cordance with the light source.
Recording - 74 - Set the White Balance value. Use to match t he condition when taking photographs. 1 T ouch [ Ò ]. 2 T ouch [ Ó ]. 3 Aim the camera at a sheet of white p aper etc., so that the frame in the center is filled by the white object only and then touch [Set].

Recording - 76 - ∫ Setting up [ ] (AF T racking) T ouch the subjec t. • The AF area turns yel low and the subje ct is locked. It will cont inuously adjust t he fo cus and exposure auto matically following th e movement of the subject. (Dynamic T racking) • Lock is canceled when [ ] is touched.
- 77 - Recording For det ails on [Rec] Mode menu setti ngs, refer to P34 . This mode allows you to take c lose-up pictures of a s ubject, e.g. when taking pictures of flowers. Applicable modes: · Note • We rec ommend us ing a t ripod and the Self-ti mer .
Recording - 78 - For det ails on [Rec] Mode menu setti ngs, refer to P34 . Use this function when you c annot achieve appropriate expos ure due to the difference in brightness between the subject and the background. Look at t he following examples. Applicable modes: ·¿ n 1 Adjust the exposure by dragging the slide bar .

Contrast and expos ure will be adjusted autom atically when there is a big difference in brightness between the background and subject, to bring the i mage close to real life. Recording - 80 - For det ails on [Rec] Mode menu setti ngs, refer to P34 . Pictures are taken continuously wh ile t he shutter button is pressed. Select the ones you really like from among the pictures you have taken. Applicable modes: ñ· ¿ [ON]/[OF F] Note • The burst speed becomes slow er halfway .

Using these modes, the pictures can be made sharper or softer , the colors of the pictures can be turned into sepia colors or other color effects can be achieved. Applicable modes: ñ·n ¢ 1 This can be set only when Intelligent Auto Mode is set.
Recording - 82 - For det ails on [Rec] Mode menu setti ngs, refer to P34 . AF assist lamp will illuminate the subject when the shutter but ton is pressed half-way making it easier for the camera to focus when recording in l o w light conditions. (Larger AF area is displayed depending on the recording conditi ons.
- 83 - Recording For det ails on [Rec] Mode menu setti ngs, refer to P34 . Using one of these modes, jitt er during picture taking is detected, and t he camera automatically compensates the jitter , enabling jitter-free images to be taken.
Recording - 84 - Entering T ext It is possible to enter babies’ and pets’ names and the names of travel des tinations when recording. (Only alphabet ical characters and sym bols can be ent ered.) Y ou can use the stylus pen (supplied) if it is hard to operate with your fingers.

Playback/Editing - 86 - Y ou can play back t he pictures you have taken in synchronisat ion with music, and you can do this in sequence while l eaving a fixed interval between each of the pictures. Furthermore, you c an play back the pictures group ed together by category or play back only those pictures you have set as favorites as a slide show .
- 87 - Playback/Editing ∫ Changing t he slide show sett ings Y ou can change the settings for Slide Show Playback by selecting [Effect] or [Setup] on the slide show menu screen. [Effect] This allows you to select the screen ef f ects or music effects when s witching from one picture to the n ext.
Playback/Editing - 88 - The images s orted into the cat egory or images set as favorite are play ed back. ∫ About the categories to be sorted It will be sorted as following when [Category Selection] is set.
- 89 - Playback/Editing Y ou can display pictures by recording da te. Note • The recor ding date of the pic ture sele c ted in the pl ayback screen becomes the da te selected when the calendar screen is firs t displayed. • If there are multiple p ictures wit h the same rec ording da te, the firs t pict ure r ecorded o n that day is displayed.
Playback/Editing - 90 - [Playback] Mode: ¸ Using the [Playback] M ode Men u Y ou can set up pictures to be uploaded t o im age sharing sit es and perform editing like cropping recorded pictures, as well as set up the protection of recorded images, etc.
- 91 - Playback/Editing ∫ Upload to the image sharing sites An upload tool built -in to the camera “LUMIX Image Uploader” is automatically copied to the card when you setup [Upload Set]. Perform the upload operation after connecting the camera to a PC (P101) .
Playback/Editing - 92 - Y ou can stamp the recording date/time, name, location or travel date onto the recorded pictures. Select [T ext St amp] on the [Playbac k] Mode menu. (P34) T ouch [ ] ([Single]) or [ ] ([Multi]). T ouch [Set]. Select the item to st amp.
- 93 - Playback/Editing To u c h [ ] . To u c h [ O K ] . • Confirmati on screen is displayed. It is executed when [Y es] is selected. Exit th e menu afte r it is execut ed.
Playback/Editing - 94 - T o allow easy posting t o web pages, att ac hment to email etc., picture size (number of pixels) is reduced. Select [R esize] on t he [Playback] Mo de menu. (P3 4) T ouch [ ] ([Single]) or [ ] ([Multi]). Note • Y ou can s et up to 5 0 pictu res at one time in [Multi] .
- 95 - Playback/Editing Y ou can enlarge and then clip the import ant part of t he recorded picture. Select [Croppi ng] on the [Playback] M ode menu. (P34) Drag the scr een horizont ally to select an ima ge, and then touch [Set]. Select the parts to be cropped.
