- 5 - Before Use Before Use Main features of the ca mera This unit has two lenses built-in so that you can enjoy making a variety of diff erent recordings. Y ou can switch between the following functions us ing the 3D/2D switch. When the 3D/ 2D switch is se t to [3D] • Y o u can ea sily re cor d 3D pict ures and 3D mot ion pi ctur es.
Before Use - 6 - Care of the camera Remove the lens cover seal A before use. Do not subject to strong vibration, shock, o r pressure. • The lens, LCD monitor , or external case may be damag ed if used in following co nditions. It may also malf unction or ima ge may not be record ed.

Before Use - 10 - ∫ About the Styl us pen It is easier to use the stylus pen (supplied) for det ailed operation or if it is hard to operate with your fingers. • Do not place it where sm all children can re ach. • Do not place the s tylus pe n on the LCD monito r when storin g.
- 11 - Preparation Preparation Charging the Battery ∫ About batteries that you can use with this unit • Use the dedicate d charger and battery . • The battery is not charged whe n the camera is shipped. Cha rge the battery before use. • Charge the batte ry with the charg er indoors.
Preparation - 12 - ∫ About the [CHARG E] indi cator The [CHARGE] indicator tu rns on: The [CHARGE] indicator is turned on during charging. The [CHARGE] indicator tu rns off: The [CHARGE] indicator will turn of f once the charging has completed without any problem.

Preparation - 14 - ∫ Playback Note • The operating times and number of recordable pic tures will differ according to the environme nt and the operating conditions. For example , in the followin g cases, t he oper ating time s shorten and th e number of recordab le pictures is reduced.
- 15 - Preparation Inserting and Removin g the Card (optiona l)/the Battery • Check that this unit is turn ed off. • We recommend using a Pana sonic card. Slide t he release le ver in the direction of the arrow and open the card/batte ry door . • Always use g enuine Panasonic batteries.
Preparation - 16 - About the Built-in Memory /the Card • Y ou can copy th e recorded pi ctures to a ca rd. ( P127) • Memory size: Approx. 70 MB • The access time for th e built-in memory may be longer tha n the access t ime for a card. The following cards which conform to t he SD video s tandard can be used with this unit.
- 17 - Preparation Note • Do not turn this u nit off or remove it s batt ery or card when the access i ndication is lit (when pictures a re being written, read or d eleted, or the built-in memory or the c ard is being formatted). F urthermore, do not s ubject the camera to vibration, impact or static electri city .
Preparation - 18 - ∫ About the display of the number of record able pictures and availa ble recording time • Y ou can confirm the nu mber of recordable pictures and av ailable recordin g time by touc hing [ ] se ver al t imes .
- 19 - Preparation ∫ A vailable recording time (when recording motion p ictures) • “h” is an abbrevia tion for hour , “m” for minute and “s” for second. When recording in 3D When recording in 2D Note • Number of recordab le pictures/ available re cording time for t he card may decreas e when [Upload Set] is performe d.
Preparation - 20 - T urning the Power On/Off Y ou can switch the power on/off using the lens cover or the pow er button. T o record, lower t he lens cover . Note • If you p ress the power butto n with the len s cover in the ra ised st ate, a message will appea r .
- 21 - Preparation Setting Date/Time (Clock Set) • The clock is not set w hen the camera is s hipped. T ouch [Language Set]. Select the language , and then to uch [Set]. T ouch [Clock Set]. T ouch the items you wi sh to set (Y ear/ Month/Day/ Hours/Minutes) , and se t using [ 3 ]/[ 4 ].
Preparation - 22 - Select [Clock Set] in the [Rec] or [Setup] men u. (P4 8) • The clock can be reset as show n in steps 5 and 6 . • The clock setting is maintained for 3 months using the built-in clock battery even without the battery . (Leave the charged battery in t he unit for 24 hours t o charge the built-in battery .
- 23 - Basic Basic Tip s for t aking good pictures Hold the camera gen tly with both hands, k eep yo ur arms sti ll at you r side and st and with your fee t slightly ap art. • T o prevent dropping, be sure to atta ch the supplied strap and fit it to your wrist.
Basic - 24 - Focusing Aim the AF area a t the subject, and then press the shutter b utton half way . • AF area is displayed larg er during the dig ital zoo m or when it is dark. ∫ About focus range The focus range is displayed when operating the zoom.
- 25 - Basic ∫ When the subject is not in focus (such as when it is not in the centre of the composition of the picture you want to take) 1 Aim the AF area at the subj ect, and then p ress the shutter b utton halfway to fix the focus and exposure. 2 Press and hold the shutter button halfway while moving the camera as you compose the picture.
Basic - 26 - T aking 3D pictures With the two lenses built i nto this unit, you can record 3D pictures. • 3D picture s are stored in MPO fo rmat. In this uni t both MPO images and fine J PEG images are recorded simult an eously . • The following functio ns are act ivated aut omatically .

Basic - 28 - Recording 3D motion pi ctures • 3D motion pictures reco rded with this unit are in s ide-by-s ide (2 screen struc ture) for mat. The image qualit y is fix ed at 1920 k 1080 pixels .
- 29 - Basic Note • The maximum continu ous recording t ime for 3D motion pic tures is 29 minutes 59 seconds. If you are record ing motio n pictures in an environ ment wher e the ambie nt temperatur e is high or recording motion pictures continuous ly , [ ] may be displaye d and the recording may stop.
Basic - 30 - Viewing 3D pictures and 3D motion pict ures When you playback recorded 3D images on the LCD monitor of this unit, they will play back in 2D (i.
- 31 - Basic ∫ Play back as a 3D slide show by selecting only the still pictures and motion pictures recorded in 3D Select [3D Play] in [Slide Show] in the Playback Mode. ( P 111 ) ∫ Play back in 3D by selecting only the still pictures and motion pictures recorded in 3D Select [3D Play] in [Filtering Play] in the Playback Mode.
Basic - 32 - Note • During 3D playba ck on a connec ted televisi on, the [Se tup] menu and [ Playback] Mode menu are not avai lable. • When the picture is no t appropriat e to view in 3D (disp arity is t oo large, etc. ) – [Slide Show] : The picture will be played ba ck in 2D.
- 33 - Basic Selecting a 2D Record ing Mode ∫ List of [Rec] M odes Note • When the mode has been switched from [Playbac k] Mode to [Rec] Mode, the previo usly set [Rec] Mode will be set. Set the 3D/2 D switch to [2D]. In Recording Mode, t ouch [ ].
Basic - 34 - Applicable modes: Recording 2D Pictures (Normal Pictur e Mode) Y ou can record 2D pictures by switching the 3D/2D switch. Note that here the description is for the Normal Picture Mode in which the camera automatically sets the shutter speed and aperture value according to the brightness of the subject.
- 35 - Basic Applicable modes: T aki ng Pictures Using the Autom atic Function (Intelligent Auto Mode) The camera will set the most appropriate settings to match the subject and the recording conditions so we recom mend this mode f or beginners or those who want to leave the settings to the camera and take pictures easily .

- 39 - Basic Note • The maximum cont inuous record ing time for motion pict ures is 29 minutes 59 s econds. If yo u are recordin g motion picture s in an environ ment where the ambient temp erature is high or recording motion pictures continuous ly , [ ] may be displa yed and the reco rding may stop.
Basic - 40 - ∫ About the rec ording f ormat for r ecordin g motion pi ctures This unit can record 2D motion pictures in either A VCHD or MP4 formats. A VCHD: This is a format for precise, high definition video. This format is best used when the video will be displayed on a high def inition TV , or saved to a disk and watched on a computer .

Basic - 42 - Playing Back Picture s ([Normal P lay]) Note • This camera complies with the DCF standar d “D esign rule for Camera File syst em” esta blished by JEIT A “Japa n Electroni c s and Inf ormation T echnology Industri es Associ ation” and wi th Exif “Exchangea ble Image File Format”.

Basic - 44 - Playing Back Motion P ictures The camera can play back the following motion picture file formats: A VCHD (except A V CHD Progressive) recorded with this unit or other Panasonic digital camera (LUMIX), MP4, QuickTime Motion JPEG , a nd 3D motion pictures recorded with this unit.

Basic - 46 - Deleting Pictures Once deleted, pictures cannot be recovered. • Pictures on the bu ilt-in memory or the card , that are being played back will be delet ed. • Pictures that are not in the DCF standar d or those th at are protec ted cann ot be deleted .

Use a batt e ry with a suf ficient battery power . • Depending on the numbe r of picture s to be deleted, it may take s ome time to delet e them. Basic - 48 - Setting the Menu The camera comes with menus that allow you to choose the settings for taking pict ures and playing them back as you like and menus that enable you t o have more fun with the camera and use it more eas ily . In particular , the [Setup] menu contains some important settings relati ng to the camera’s clock and power .
- 49 - Basic ∫ Close the menu T ouch [ ] several times or press the sh utter button halfway . Note • There are f unction s that cann ot be set or us ed depending on the modes or menu sett ings being used on the camera due to the sp ecifications . T ouch the menu item.
Basic - 50 - Y ou can have the LCD monitor display desired menu items. Up to 2 frequently-used menu items can be registered per [Rec]/[Playback] Mode. • Read P85 for the [R ec] Mode menu , P107 for th e [Motion P icture] Mode menu, and P1 1 5 for the [Play back] Mode menu.
- 51 - Basic About the Setup Menu [Clock Set], [Economy] and [ Auto Review] are i m portant items. Check their settings before using them. Basic - 52 - • The number of days that have p assed s ince t he dep arture date c an be printed out u s ing the “ PHOTOf unSTUDIO ” bundled so ftware on the CD-ROM (supplied). • The travel dat e is calc ulated using the date in the clock setting and the de parture date y ou set .
- 53 - Basic • Some subjects may appear dif ferently from actu ality on the LCD monitor . However , this doe s not af fect th e recorded pict ures. • The brightness of t he pictures displayed on t he LCD monitor is increased so some su bjects may appear dif ferent from rea l life on the LCD monitor .
Basic - 54 - • When you align the s ubject on t he horizontal and v ertical guide lines or the cross point of thes e lines, you can t ake pictures with well- designed compo sition by viewin g the size, th e slope and the bala nce of the subj ect. • The [Pattern] setting is fixed to [ ] in the Intelligent Auto Mode .
- 55 - Basic • [ Auto Po wer Off] is set to [5 MIN. ] in t he Intel ligent Au to Mode . • [Auto Power Of f] does not work in the foll owing cases. – When connectin g to a PC or a print er – Wh.
Basic - 56 - • The folder number i s updated and the file number st arts from 0001 . • A folder n umber between 100 a nd 999 c an be assigned. When the f older number reaches 999, th e number can not be res et. We recommend format ting the ca rd (P5 9) after savin g the dat a on a PC or elsewhere.
- 57 - Basic [USB Mode] Select the USB comm unication system after or before connecting the camera to your PC or your printer with the USB connection cable (supplied). [ ] ([Select on connection]): Select either [ PC] or [PictBridge(PTP)] if you connected the camera to a PC or a printer supporting PictBridge.
Basic - 58 - • This will work when the HDMI mini cable ( optional) is connec ted. • Refer to P131 for details . • Refer to P42 for informa tion about ho w to play back pictures. • When you play back pictures on a PC, they canno t be displayed in the rotate d directio n unless the OS or software is comp atible with Exif.
- 59 - Basic • Use a batter y with s ufficie nt batt ery po wer when f ormatting. Do not turn t he camera off during formatti ng. • If a card has been inserted , only the card is fo rmatted. T o format the built-in memory , remove the ca rd. • If the card has bee n formatte d on a PC or other equipment , format it on the c amera again.
Basic - 60 - • The St abiliser func tion is switch ed between [O n] and [Of f] every time [S tabil izer] is touc hed during the [S tabilizer Demo.]. • [St abilizer Demo . ] is a n appr oximation. • [Auto Demo] is no t output t o the television. [Demo Mode] Displays the am ount of jitter the came ra has detected.
- 61 - Recording Recording About the LCD Monitor T ouch [ ] to change. • D uring Pl aybac k Zoo m, while playi ng back moti on pictures and during a slide show , you can only select “Normal di splay E ” or “No di spl ay G ”.
Recording - 62 - Applicable modes: T aki ng pictures using the touch operation (T ouch Shutter function) Just by touching the subject to focus, it wil l focus on the subject and t ake the picture automatically . To u c h [ ] . • Icon will chang e to [ ], and taking a pic ture with the T ouch Shutter function becomes possi ble.
- 63 - Recording Applicable modes: Match the focu sing and exposure to a de sired subject using touch ope rations (T ouch A F/AE) It is possible to set the focus and exposure to the subject specified on the t ouch panel. • Perform the operation aft er cancelling the touch shutt er function.
Recording - 64 - ∫ Set ting up [ ] ( AF T racki ng) • The AF t racking frame wi ll turn red and then turn off if the lock fai ls. T ry to lock the frame agai n. • The camera records pictures with [AF Mode] as [ ] when locke d or Dynamic T racking is not working.
- 65 - Recording Applicable modes: Using the Zoom Y ou can zoom-in to make people and objects appear c loser or zoom-out to record landscapes in wide angle. T o m ake subj ects appear e ven closer (max imum of 7.8 k ), do not set the picture size t o the highest setting for each aspect ratio ( X / Y / W /) .
Recording - 66 - ∫ T ypes of zooms • When using the Z oom function, an estimate of the focus range will appear i n conjunction with th e zoom display bar . [Example: 0.5 m (1.64 f t.) – ¶ ] ¢ The mag nification level dif fers depend ing on [Picture Size] an d [Aspect Ratio] setting .
- 67 - Recording Note • The indic ated zoom magn ification i s an approximati on. • “EZ” is an abbreviation of “Extra Opti cal Zoom”. It is possi ble to t ake more magnified pic tures with the o p tical zoom. • When using the Digit al Zoom, we rec ommend using a t ripod and the self-ti mer (P88) for taking pictures.
Recording - 68 - Applicable modes: Recording Images with Differing Angles of V iew (Wide & Zoom Dual- Shooting) Using the two lenses, you can si mult a neously record two pictures with dif fering angles of view , or sim ultaneously record a motion pictu re and a picture with differing angles of v iew .

Recording - 70 - Applicable modes: T aki ng Pictures that Match the S cene Being Recorded (Scene Mode) When you select a Scene Mode t o match the su bject and recording situation, the camera sets the optimal exposure and hue to obtai n the desired picture.
- 71 - Recording When taking pictures o f people outdoors during the day , this mode enables the texture of their skin to appear even soft er than with [Portrait].
Recording - 72 - This allows you to take pictures of a wide lands cape. Y ou can take pictures with connections suitable for creating panorama images. ∫ Set ting the re cording di rection 1 T ouc h the direction to t ake pictur e. 2 T ouch [OK]. • The horizont al/vertical gui deline will be displayed.
- 73 - Recording Set here when you want to take pictur es of sports scenes or other fast-m oving events. Note • Shutter speed may sl ow d own up to 1 second. • This mode is suitable f o r ta king pictures of subject s at dist ances of 5 m (16. 4 feet) or more.
Recording - 74 - This mode allows y ou to take pictures of food with a natural hue without being affected by the ambient light in restaurants etc. Select this mode when y ou want to take pictures at a wedding reception or an indoor party etc. This allows you to take pictures of people and the background wit h near real-life brightness.
- 75 - Recording This takes pictures of a baby with a healthy complexion. When you us e the flash, the light from it is weaker t han usual. It is possible to set different birthdays and nam es for [Baby1] and [Baby2].
Recording - 76 - Select this mode when you want to t a ke pictures of a pet such as a dog or a cat. Y ou can set your pet’s birthday and name. For information about [Age] or [Name], refer to [ Baby1]/[Baby2] on P75 . Select this mode when you want to t ak e pictures of a sunset view .
- 77 - Recording S till pictures are taken continuously w ith flash. It is convenient to take continuous still pictures in dark places. ∫ Picture size a nd aspect ratio Select the picture size of 3M (4: 3), 2.5M (3: 2), 2M (16:9) or 2.5M (1:1). • S till pictures are taken continuously while the shutter button is pressed fully .
Recording - 78 - This allows you to take even more vivid pic tures of the blue colour of the sea , sky etc. It also prevents underexposure of people under strong sunlight. Note • Do not touc h the camera with wet han ds. This allows you to t ak e pictures that show t he snow as whit e as possible at a ski resort or a snow-covered mountain.
- 79 - Recording Y ou can use this mode to easily record pictur es in which bright and dark regions of t he scene are expressed with suitable brightness w hen looking into the sun, at night, or in similar circumstances. ∫ Setting the effect Note • Compensat ion eff ect may not be achie v ed depe nding on the conditio ns.
Recording - 80 - Applicable modes: Recording T aki ng a Picture with Face Re cognition Function Face Recognition is a function which finds a face resembling a registered face and prioritises focus and exposure automatically .
- 81 - Recording Y ou can register information such as names and birthdays for face images of up to 6 people. Registration can be facilitated by taking multiple face images of each p erson. (up to 3 pictures/registration) Select [Fac e Recog.] on the [Rec] Mode menu.
Recording - 82 - Set the item . • Y ou can register up t o 3 face images. • Exit th e menu afte r it is set. Item Description of settings [Name] It is possible to register names. 1 Selec t [SET]. 2 Enter the name. • For detai ls on ho w to enter charac ters , ref er t o “ En tering T ext ” section on P84 .
- 83 - Recording Y ou can modify the pictures or information of an already registered person. Y ou can also delete the information of the registered person. 1 Select [Face Recog.] from the [Rec] Mode menu. (P48) 2 T ou ch [ ] ([Memo ry]). 3 T ouc h the face image to edit or delete.
Recording - 84 - Entering T ext It is possible to enter babies’ and pets’ names and the names of travel des tinations when recording. (Only alphabet ical characters and symbols can be entered.) Y ou can use the stylus pen (supplied) if it is hard to operate with your fingers.
- 85 - Recording Using the [Rec] Mode Me nu Applicable modes: For det ails on [Rec] Mode menu setti ngs, refer to P48 . Set the flash to match the recording. ¢ The flash is activated twice. The subject should not move until the secon d flash is activated.
Recording - 86 - ∫ A vailable Flash Setti ngs in Recordi ng Mode The available flash settings depend on the Recording Mode. ( ± : Available, —: Not available, ¥ : Scene Mode initial setting) ¢ [ ] is displayed. • The flash setting may change if the Recording Mode is changed.
- 87 - Recording ∫ The available flash range • The avail able flash range is an approxi mation. ∫ Shutter speed for each flash setting ¢ 1 It may vary depen ding on the [Min. Shtr Sp eed] setting. ¢ 2 When [Min. Shtr S peed] is set to [Au to].
Recording - 88 - Applicable modes: For det ails on [Rec] Mode menu setti ngs, refer to P48 . This is for recording still pictures using the timer . • Press the s hutter but ton halfway to focus and t hen press it fu lly to take t h e pi c ture. The self-timer in dicator blinks and the shutter is activate d after 10 seco nds (or 2 second s).
- 89 - Recording Applicable modes: For det ails on [Rec] Mode menu setti ngs, refer to P48 . Set the number of pixels. The higher the nu mbers of pixels, the finer the detail of the pictures will appear even when they are printed ont o large sheets. ¢ This ite m cannot be set in the Intelligent Auto Mode.
Recording - 90 - Applicable modes: For det ails on [Rec] Mode menu setti ngs, refer to P48 . Set the compression rate at which the pictures are to be stored. Note • The setting is fixed to [ › ] in [Transform], [ High Sen s.] or [Flash B urst] in Sce ne Mode.
- 91 - Recording Applicable modes: For det ails on [Rec] Mode menu setti ngs, refer to P48 . This allows the sens itivity to light (ISO sens itivity) to be set. Sett ing to a higher number enables pictures to be taken even in dark plac es without the resulting pictures coming out dark.
Recording - 92 - Applicable modes: For det ails on [Rec] Mode menu setti ngs, refer to P48 . In sunlight, under incandescent lights or in other such conditions where the colour of white takes on a reddish or bl uis h tinge, this it em adj usts to the co lour of white which is closes t to what is seen by the eye i n accordance with the light source.
