12 VQT3P35 MAINTENANCE AND W A TERPR OOF PERFORMANCE k Before using the camer a in water , please chec k the following j Check that there is no fore ign matter adhering to the inside of any of the covers. h If lint, hair , sand or the like is presen t, water ma y l eak into the camera in seconds and damage it.
VQT3P35 13 k T o prevent water leaking in to the camera, please observe the follo wing precautions bef ore using it. k Check that there is suff icient battery po wer and card memory remaining. k Do not open or close the battery cover or termi n a l co ver in places with sand and dust, or with wet hands.
14 VQT3P35 2 If there is foreign matter adhering to the came ra, use the supplied brush to remove it. h If there is any f oreign matter , such as lint, hair , sand, etc., on the pa rts indicated b y t he te xt balloons in the illustration, wa ter wil l leak inside within seconds and m a y damage the camera.
VQT3P35 15 i If there is liquid on the surf ace, wipe it off with a soft dry cloth. i The integrity of the rubber seals decr eases after a bout 1 y ear. It is st rongly recommended that y ou have the seals re placed (subject to a fee) at least once a year at the store where the camer a was purchased or at nearby service center .

VQT3P35 17 k Causes of water leak i If the camer a is used in any of t he f ollowing conditions , a gap may appe ar between the ca mera body and the batt ery cover or terminal cov er , resulting in water seeping in and causing the camer a to malfunction.
18 VQT3P35 2 Wipe off the water, place the ca mera on a dry cloth and leave it to dry for a while in a wel l- ven ti lated shaded spot. 3 Check that there is no water on the camera, and open the battery cover and terminal cover. h Moisture ma y easily accumulate in t he groo ves inside the cov ers, so tak e care that no w ater gets inside .

This phenomeno n is due to the characteristics of the MOS se nsor and is not a malfunction.

When shoot in g underwater , set the scene mode setting to underwater . This setting ensures the best col ors and audio recording for underwater photography (pages 51 and 84 ).
