Before Use - 14 - Att ach ing the Lens Hood In bright sunlight or backlight, the lens hood wi ll minimize lens flare and ghosting. The lens hood cuts of f excess lighting and improves the pict ure quality . • Check that t he camera i s t urne d off.
- 15 - Preparation Preparation Charging the Battery ∫ About batteries that you can use with this unit • Use the dedicate d charger an d ba ttery . • The camera has a function for distinguishing batteries which can be used safely . The dedicated battery sup port s this function.
Preparation - 16 - ∫ About the [CHARGE] indicator • When the [CHARGE] indica tor flashes – The batt ery t empe rature is too hi gh or too lo w . It is re commend ed to c har ge the ba tt er y aga in in an ambient te mperature of between 10 o C to 30 o C (50 o F to 86 o F).
- 17 - Preparation ∫ Charging • The indic ate d chargi ng time is for when the bat tery has been dischar ged comple tely . The charging ti me may vary dependin g on how the battery has been used. Th e charging time for the battery in hot/cold environments or a battery that has not been used for long time may be longer than normal.

Preparation - 20 - Inserting and Removin g the Card (optiona l)/the Battery • T urn the power s witch to [O F F] and confir m that the lens barrel is retr acted. • Close the fl ash. • We rec ommend using a Pana sonic ca rd. Slide t he releas e lever in the dire ction of the arrow and open the card/battery door .
- 21 - Preparation Note • Remo ve the batte ry after use. • Do not remove the bat tery while t he powe r is on as the set tings on th e ca mera may not be stored pro per ly . • The supplied ba ttery is designed only for the came ra. Do not use it with any other equi pment.
Preparation - 22 - About the Built-in Memory /the Card • Y ou can copy the reco r ded pict ures to a card. (P17 0) • Memory size: Approx. 40 MB • Recordabl e motion pict u r es: QVGA (32 0 k 240 pi xels) only • The built- in memory can be us ed as a tempor ary stor age devi ce when the card bein g used becomes f ull.
- 23 - Preparation The following cards which conform to t he SD video s tandard can be used with this unit. (These cards are indicated as card in the te x t.) • Only cards be arin g the SDHC logo (ind icating t hat the card confo rms to SD video standa rds) may be used as 4 GB to 32 GB cards .

Preparation - 26 - Setting the Menu The camera comes with menus that allow you to choose the settings for taking pictures and playing them back as you like and menus that enable you t o have more fun with the camera and use it more eas ily .

Basic - 44 - [REC] Mode: ñ T aking pictures using the automatic function (Intelligent Auto Mode) The camera will set the most appropriate settings to match the subject and the recording conditions so we recom mend this mode f or beginners or those who want to leave the settings to the camera and take pictures easily .

- 49 - Basic [REC] Mode: ³ T aking pictures with y our favorite settings (Program AE Mo de) The camera automatically sets the shutt er speed and the aperture value according to the brightness of the subject. Y ou can take pictures with greater freedom by changing various settings in [REC] menu.

Basic - 52 - In Program AE Mode, you can change the preset aperture value and shutter s peed without changing the exposure. This is called pr ogram shift. Y ou can make the background mo re blurred by decreas ing the aperture value or record a m oving subject more dynamically by slowing the shutter speed when taking a picture in Program AE Mode.
- 53 - Basic [REC] Mode: T aking Pictures with th e Zoom Y ou can zoom-in to make people and objects appear closer or zoom-out to record landscapes in wide angle. T o make subj ects appear even closer (maximum of 50. 6 k ), do not set the picture size t o the highest setting for each aspect ratio ( X / Y / W /) .

Basic - 60 - [PLA YBACK] Mode: ¸ Deleting Pictures Once deleted, pictures cannot be recovered. • Pictures on the bu ilt -in memory or the card , which are being played back will be del eted. T o delete a sing le picture Select the picture to be delet ed, and then press [ ‚ ].

Advanced ( Recording pictur es) - 76 - [REC] Mode: Compensating the Exposure Use this function when you c annot achieve appropriate expos ure due to the difference in brightness between the subject and the background.
- 77 - Advanced ( Recording pictur es) [REC] Mode: T aking Pictures using Auto Bracket In this mode, 3 pictures are automatic ally recorded in t he selected exposure compensation range each time the s hutter button is pressed. Y ou can select the picture with the desired exposure from the 3 p ict ures with different exposures.
Advanced ( Recording pictur es) - 78 - [REC] mode: Setting the Lig ht Sensitivity This allows the sens itivity to light (ISO sens itivity) to be set. Sett ing to a higher figure enables pictures to be taken even in dark plac es without the resulting pictures coming out dark.
