- 8 - Before Use ∫ When i nner s ide of the lens i s fogged (co ndensation) This unit has been designed to prevent condensatio n by Anti-fog glass, ho wever it may b e caused by the environment in which the camera is used. It is not a malfunctio n or failure of the camera.
- 9 - Before Use Y our Panas onic Lumix digital still camera is GPS-equipped whic h can automatically rec ord the precise location coordinates of where the ph ot o was taken. T he specific physical address of this location can eas ily be derived from this information.
- 10 - Before Use (Import a nt) About the W aterproof/Dustproof and Anti-shock Perfo rmance of the Camera This does not guarant ee no dest ruction, no malfunc tion, or waterpro ofing in all conditi ons.
- 11 - Before Use ∫ Handli ng of the camera • Wat e rproofin g is not guarante ed if the un it is subjec t to an imp act as a result of being hi t or dropped etc. If an imp act to the camera occu rs, it should be in s pecte d (subject to a fee) by Panas onic to verify that the wate rproofing is still ef fective.
- 12 - Before Use 1 Check that there are no foreign objects o n the inner side of the side door . • If there is any foreign obje ct, such as lint, hair , sand, etc., on the surroundin g area, water will leak within a few seconds causing mal function.
- 13 - Before Use • Use the camera und erwater to 13 m (43 feet ) with the wat er temperat ure betwee n 0 o C and 40 o C (32 o F and 104 o F). • Do not u s e for scuba diving (Aqualung). • Do no t use th e ca mera at a dep th of ov er 13 m (43 fee t).
- 14 - Before Use 2 Drain water by ho lding the camera upside down and shaking it lightly a few times. • Make sure to put your hand thr ough the strap to prevent the c amera from fal ling. 3 Wipe off water drop s on the camera with a soft , dry cloth an d dry the camera in a sh aded area that is well ventilated.

- 18 - Prepar ation Charging the Bat tery ∫ About batteries that you can use with this unit • Use the dedicate d charger and bat tery . • The batter y is not char ged when th e camera is shipped. Charge the batte r y before u se. • Charge the bat tery with the c harger indoors .
- 19 - Prepar ation ∫ About the [CHARGE] indicat or • When the [ CHARGE] indicator flashes – The battery t emperature is too hig h or too low . It is recommend ed to charge the batt ery again in a n ambient t emperature between 10 o C and 30 o C (50 o F a nd 86 o F).

- 21 - Prepar ation ∫ Record ing mot ion pictur es • These ti mes are for an ambien t temperature of 23 o C ( 73.4 o F) and a humidit y of 50%RH. Pleas e be aware that th ese ti mes are approx imate. • T ime of record ing without using the GPS fu nction.
- 22 - Prepar ation Inserting and Removing t he Card (optional)/t he Battery • Che ck that thi s unit is turned off. • Confirm that there is no foreign object. (P12) • We rec ommend us ing a Panason ic card. 1 1 : Slide the [LOCK] switch A , and rel eas e the l ock .
- 23 - Prepar ation • Remove the battery af ter use. (The ba t tery will be exhausted if lef t for a long period of time af ter being charge d.) • T urn the camer a off an d wait for the “LUMI X” display on the LCD monitor to clear before removing the card or batt ery .
- 24 - Prepar ation About the Built-in Memory/ the Card • Y ou can copy the record ed pictures to a card. ( P172) • Memory size: Approx. 10 MB • The access time fo r the b u ilt-in memo ry may be longer than th e access time for a card. The following card s which conform t o the SD video standard can be used with this unit .

- 28 - Prepar ation Setting Date/Time (Clock Set) • The clock is not set when the camera is shipped. 1 Press came ra [ON/OFF] button . • If the lang uage select screen is not displa yed, pro ceed to [Require ments for Unde rwater use] below . 2 Press [MENU/SET].

- 30 - Prepar ation Tip s for t aking good pictures Hold the camera gently with both hands, keep your arms still at your side and st and with your fee t slightly ap art. • T o prevent droppin g, be sure to attach the supplied s trap and fit it to your w rist.
- 31 - Basic Selecting the Recording Mode ∫ List of Recording M odes • When the mode has been switched from Playback Mode to Re cording Mo de, the previously set Recording Mode will b e set. 1 Press [MO DE]. 2 Press 3 / 4 / 2 / 1 to selec t the Recording Mode .
- 32 - Basic T aking Pictures using the Automa tic Function (Intelligent Auto Mode) Recording Mode: The camera will set the m ost appropriate settings to match the s ubject and the recording conditions so we recomm end this mode for beginners or those who want to leave the s ettings to the camera and take pictures easily .
- 33 - Basic When the camera identifies the optimum s cene, the icon of the scene concerned is displayed in blue for 2 se conds, after which its color c hanges to the usual red. - 34 - Basic Following menus can be set. • For the setting method of the menu, refe r to P48 . ¢ Settings may be dif ferent f rom other Recor d ing Modes. ∫ [Burst] (P11 1) [ ] can be set in [Burst]. In this setting, the burst speed is autom atically adjusted based on the movement of the subject.
- 35 - Basic ∫ [iHDR] When [iHDR] is set to [ON] and there is, for example, strong cont rast between the background and the subject, multiple still pi ctures are recorded with dif fering exposures and combined to create a single still picture rich in gradation.
- 36 - Basic T aking Pictures with Y ou r Favorite Setting s (Program AE Mod e) Recording Mode: The camera automatically sets the shutter s peed and the aper ture value accor ding to the brightness of the subject. Y ou can take pictures with greater freedom by changing various set tings in the [Rec] m enu.
- 37 - Basic Focusing Aim the AF area at the subject, and then pres s the shutter button halfway . • The AF area may be disp layed larger for certain z oom magnific ations and in dark places. ∫ About focus range The focus range is displayed w hen operating the z oom.
- 38 - Basic ∫ When the su bject is not in focus (su ch as w hen it is n ot in the center of the composition of the picture you want to take) 1 Aim the AF area at the subject, and press t he shutter button halfway to fix the focus and exposure. 2 Press and hold the shutter button halfway while moving the camera as you co mpose the pict ure.
- 39 - Basic Recording Motion Pictures Appl ica ble mod es: This can reco rd full high definition motion pictures com patible with the A VCHD format or motion pictures record ed in MP4. Audio will be recorded in stereo. 1 St art recording by pressing the m otion picture button.
- 40 - Basic • When a mot ion picture is recorded in a high tempe rature environ ment or is re c orded con tinuously , the record ing may stop af ter [ ] is disp layed to protec t this uni t. • The available re c ording time di s played on the s creen may not de c rease reg ularly .
- 41 - Basic • If you end moti on pictu re recording af ter a short time when us ing [Miniatur e Effect] of the Creative Control Mode, the camera may go on record ing fo r a certain period. Ple ase c ontinue to hold the camera unti l the recording finishes.
- 42 - Basic Playing Back ∫ Playing Back Motion Pi ctures Select a picture with a Motion Picture icon (such as [ ]), and then press 3 to play back. - 46 - Basic Deleting Pictures Once deleted, pictu res cannot be recovered . • Pictures on t he built- in memory or the card t hat are being played back will be dele t ed. • Pictures th at are not in the DCF st andar d or thos e that are prot ected cannot be delet ed.
- 47 - Basic • Picture group s are treated as a single pictu re. (All the pictures in the select ed picture group will be del eted .) (P 44) • Do not turn the came ra off while deletin g. Use a battery wi th suf ficient bat tery power or the AC adaptor (opt ional).
- 48 - Basic Setting the Menu The camera comes with menus that allow you to cho ose the set tings for taking pictures and playing them back jus t as you like and menus that enable you to hav e more fun with the camera and us e it more eas ily .
- 49 - Basic ∫ Close the menu Press [Q.MENU/ ] until the screen returns to the recording/playback screen or press the shutter button half -way . • There a re fu nctions that cannot be set or used de pending on t he modes or menu set tings being used on the camer a due to the specifi cations.

- 52 - Basic • The number of days that have p assed since the dep arture date can be print ed out using the “PHOTOf unSTUDIO” bu ndled software on the CD-ROM (supplied). • The tra vel dat e is c alculate d using the date i n the c lock set ting and the departure da te you set.
- 53 - Basic • When you conn ect the camera to a TV , the volume of the TV spe akers does not chang e. Also, when connected , no sound is output from t he camera speakers. • Some subjec ts may appe ar differently from actu ality on the LCD monitor .
- 54 - Basic • The brightnes s of the pictures displayed on t he LCD monitor is increased so some subj ects may appear dif ferent from real li fe on the LCD moni tor .
- 55 - Basic • When the recorded pictur e and the histogr am do not ma tch each other under the following conditions, the histogram is displayed in orange.

- 65 - Recording This function works when any of t he picture sizes (P96) indicated with is selected. Y ou can zoom in further than you can with t he Optica l Zoom without deteriorating the im age quality . Maximum magnification: 10.5 k (This includes th e optical zoom mag nification.

- 69 - Recording T aking Close-up Pictures ([AF Macro]/[Macro Zoom]) Appl ica ble mod es: This mode allows you to take close-up pictures of a subject, e.g. when taking pictures of flowers. 1 Press 4 [ # ]. 2 Press 3 / 4 to s elect the ite m and then p ress [MENU/SET].

- 71 - Recording Compensating th e Exposure Appl ica ble mod es: Use this function when you cannot achieve appr opriat e exposure d ue to the difference in brightness between the subject and the background. • EV is an abbrevi ation of [ Exposure V alue], a unit indicating the amount of expo sure.

- 73 - Recording T aking picture b y setting the expo sure manually (Ma nual Exposu re Mode ) Recording Mode: Determine the expos ure by manually s etting the aperture value and the shutter speed. The Manual Exposure Assistance appears on the lower portion of the screen to indicate the exposure.

- 75 - Recording T aking Pictures with different ima ge effects (Creative Control Mode) Recording Mode: This mode records with additional image effects. Y ou can set the effects to add by select ing example images a nd checking them on the screen. 1 Press [MO DE].
- 76 - Recording ¢ These pic tures are e xamples to sh ow the e ffect. This effect emphasizes the color t o make a pop art picture. This effect gives a faded image. This effect adds a bright, airy and soft feel to the overall image. This effect adds a dark and relaxing feel to t he overall image and enhances bright parts.
- 77 - Recording This ef fect creat es a sepia image. This effect gi ves a higher contrast to create an impressive black and white picture. This effect gi ves your photo a dramatic contrast look. This effect produces the optimum brightness f or both dark and bright part s.
- 78 - Recording This effect gi ves your photo a dramatic color look. This effect reduces peripheral brightness to give the impression of a toy camera.
- 79 - Recording This effect blurs the overall image t o produce a soft feel. This effect transforms pin-points of light into a star effect. This effect l eaves one selected color to emphasize impressiveness . [Sof t Focus] • Display of the recording scre en will be delayed mor e than usual and the screen will look as if frames are drop ping.
- 80 - Recording T ake the Outdoors Scene Expres sively Recording Mode: By setting the Recording Mode to [ ], [ ], [ ] or [ ] pictures can be t aken more effectively matching the conditions such as spor ts, snow , beach & snorkeling. • T one of the col or of the image may ch ange when picture is taken with unmatched us age.
- 81 - Recording This is optimal f or taking pictures underwater an d at the beach. Dept h meter will automatically operate. It can be a rough indica tion of how deep you have gone underwater . Y ou can use [Color Reproduction] (P1 15) in the [Rec] menu and take pictures under water without losing the red tinge.
- 82 - Recording ∫ About the white balance Y ou can adjust the hue to your pref erred setting using [WB A djust.] (P101) . ∫ T o beautifully record the underwater red tinge (Underwater color reproduction) Subjects appear blue in pictures taken underwate r .
- 83 - Recording This is optimal f or taking pictures underwate r deeper than 13 m (43 feet) by the use of t he marine case (DMW-MCFT5: optional). Y ou can use [Color Reproduction] (P1 15) in the [Rec] menu and take pictures underwater without los ing the red t inge.
- 84 - Recording T aking panorama pictures (Panorama Shot Mo de) Recording Mode: Pictures are recorded continuously while moving the camera horizontally or vertically , and are combined to m ake a single panorama picture. 1 Press [MO DE]. 2 Press 3 / 4 / 2 / 1 to selec t [Panorama Shot], and the n press [MENU/SET].

- 86 - Recording • The zoom posit ion is fixe d to Wide. • [S tabilizer] is fixed to [OFF]. • The focus , white balanc e, and expo sure are fix ed at the opt imum values fo r the first picture.
- 87 - Recording T aking pictures that match the sc ene being recorded (Scene Mode) Recording Mode: When you se lect a Scene Mode to m atch the subject and recording situation, the camera sets the optimal exposure and hue to obtain the desired pi cture.
- 88 - Recording When taking pictures of people outdoors during the day , this mode allows you to improve t he appearance of the persons and make their skin tones look healthier . ∫ T echnique for Portrait Mode T o mak e this mode more effective: 1 Press and hold down the z oom button as fa r as possible t o T ele.
- 89 - Recording This allows you to take pictures of a per son and the background with near real-life br ightness. ∫ T echnique for Night Portrait Mode • Use the flash. ( Y o u can set to [ ‹ ].) • Ask the subj ect not to move while ta k ing a pict ure.
- 90 - Recording Y ou can combine several pictures with different levels of exposure into a single picture with rich gradation. Y ou can minimize the loss of gradati ons in bright areas a nd dark ar eas when, for example, the contrast between the background and the s ubject is large.
- 91 - Recording This takes pictures of a baby with a healthy complexion. When you use the flash, the light from it is weaker than usual. It is possible to set di fferent birthdays and names for [ Baby1] and [Baby2].
- 92 - Recording Select this when you want to t ak e pictures of a sunset view . This allows you to take vivid pictures of the red color of the sun. This mode minimizes the jitter of the subjects, and enables you to take pictures of these subjects in dimly lit rooms.
- 93 - Recording Pictures are recorded continuously while moving the camera horizontally , and two pictures selected automatically are combined to make a single 3D picture. T o view 3D pictures , a television that supports 3D is r equired. (This unit w ill play back in 2D) Refer to P217 for det a ils about the playback method.
- 94 - Recording Entering T ext It is possible to ent er babies’ and pets’ names and the locations when recording. When a sc reen that looks like the o ne on the right is displayed, you can enter characters. (Only al phabetical characters and symbols can be entered.
- 95 - Recording Using the [Rec] Menu For det ails o n [Rec ] menu sett ings, r e fer to P48 . Appl ica ble mod es: This allows you to select th e aspect ratio of t he pictures to suit printing or the playback method. • The ends of th e recorded pic tures may be cu t at printin g s o check befor e printing .
