- 8 - Before Use (Import a nt) About the W aterp roof/Dustproof and Anti-shock Perfo rmance of the Camera This does not guarante e no de s truction , no m alfunc tion, or waterpro ofing in all conditi ons.
- 9 - Before Use ∫ Handli ng of the camera • Wat erproofing is not gu aranteed if the un it is subjec t to an impact as a result of being hi t or dropped etc. If an imp act to the camera occu rs, it should be in s pecte d (s ubject to a fee) by Panasoni c to verify that the wate rpro ofing is still effective.
- 10 - Before Use 1 Check that there are no foreign objects o n the inner side of the side door . • If there is any foreign obje ct, such as lint, hair , sand, etc., on the surroundin g area, water will leak within a few seconds causing mal fu nction.
- 11 - Before Use • Use the camera und erwat er to 7 m (23 feet) with the wat er te mperature between 0 o C and 40 o C (32 o F and 104 o F). • Do not u s e for sc uba di ving (Aq ualung). • Do not u s e the came ra at a dept h of o v er 7 m (23 feet).
- 12 - Before Use 2 Drai n wate r by holdin g the c a m e r a upsi de -down A and the right way up B and shaking it lightly a few times. • Afte r using the camera at the bea ch or in water , or after wash ing it, water may remain arou nd the speake r and microp hone for a while and may ca use a drop in volume or sound dis tortion.

- 16 - Prepar ation Charging the Bat tery ∫ About batteries that you can use with this unit • Use the dedicate d charger and batt er y . • The batter y is not char g ed when the cam er a is shipped. Charge th e battery bef o re use. • Charge the bat tery with the charg er indoors.
- 17 - Prepar ation ∫ About the [CHARGE] indicat or • When the [ CHARGE] indicator flashes – The battery t emperatu re is too hig h or too low . It is rec ommended to charg e the bat tery again in a n amb i en t te m p era tu r e of betw e en 10 o C and 30 o C (50 o F and 86 o F).
- 18 - Prepar ation ∫ Recording still pictures Recording conditions by CIP A standard • CIP A is an abbreviation of [ Camera & Imaging Produc t s Association]. • T emperatu re: 23 o C (73.4 o F)/Humidity: 50%RH when LCD mo nitor is on. • Using a Panasonic SD Memory Card (32 MB).
- 19 - Prepar ation ∫ Playback • The opera ting times and nu mber of rec ordable pictures will differ according to the environment and the operating conditions.
- 20 - Prepar ation Inserting and Removing t he Card (optional)/ the Battery • Che ck th at this un it is tur n ed off. • Confirm that there is no foreign objec t. (P10) • We rec ommend us ing a P anasonic car d. 1 : Slid e the [LOCK] switc h A , and r el eas e the l ock .
- 21 - Prepar ation • Remove the battery af ter use. (The ba ttery will be exhausted if lef t for a long period of time afte r being charge d. ) • T urn the camera of f and wait for the “LUMIX” dis play on the LCD monitor to clea r before removing the card or batt ery .
- 22 - Prepar ation About the Built-in Memory/ the Card • Y ou can copy the record ed pictures to a card. ( P1 19) • Memory size: Approx. 70 MB • The access time fo r the built -in memory may be lo nger than the a ccess ti me for a c ard. The following cards, which conform to the SD video standard, c an be used with this unit.

(P51) • The number of rec ordable picture s and the availab le recording time are an appro ximation.
- 25 - Prepar ation Setting Date/Time (Clock Set) • The clock is not set when the camera is shipped. Press came ra [ON/OFF] button . • If the lang uage select sc reen is not displa y ed, proceed to [Req uirements for Underwat er use] below . Press [MENU/SET].

- 27 - Prepar ation Tip s for t aking g ood pictures Hold the camera gently with both hands, k eep your arms stil l at your side and st and with your fee t slightly ap art. • T o prevent droppin g, be sure to attach the supplied strap and fit it to your w rist.
- 28 - Basic Selecting the Recording Mode ∫ List of Recording M odes • When the mode has been switched from Playback Mode to Recording Mode, the p reviously set Recording Mode will b e set. Press [MO DE]. Press 3 / 4 / 2 / 1 to selec t the Record ing Mode.
- 29 - Basic T aking pictures using the automa tic function (Intelligent Auto Mode) Recording Mode: The camera will set the m ost appropriate settings to match the subject and the recording conditions so we recommend t his mode for beginners or those who want to leav e the settings to the camera and take pictures easily .
- 30 - Basic When the camera identifies the optimum s cene, the icon of the scene concerned is displayed in blue for 2 se conds, after which its color c hanges to the usual red. It i s possible to au tomatica lly take a pic ture with a higher level of brill iance for the color bri ght ness and vividness.
- 32 - Basic T aking pictures with your favorite settings (Normal Picture Mode) Recording Mode: The camera automatically sets the shutter s peed and the aper ture value accor ding to the brightness of the subject. Y ou can take pictures with greater freedom by changing various set tings in the [Rec] m enu.
- 33 - Basic Focusing Aim the AF area at the subject, and then press the shutter button halfway . • The AF area may be disp layed larger for certain z oom mag nifications and in dark plac es. ∫ About focus range The focus range is displayed wh en operating the z oom.
- 34 - Basic ∫ When the su bject is not in focus (su ch as wh en it is not i n the cent er of the composition of the picture you want to take) 1 Aim the AF area at the subject, and press t he shutter button half way to fix the focus and exposure. 2 Press and hold the shutter button half way while moving the camera as you compose the pict ure.

- 37 - Basic Playing Back ∫ Playing Back Motion Pi ctures Select a picture with a Motion Picture icon (such as [ ]), and then press 3 to play back. - 39 - Basic Deleting Pictures Once deleted, pictu res cannot be recovered . • Pictures on t he bui lt-in memory or the card t hat are being played back will be dele ted . • Pictures th at are not in the DCF st andar d or th ose that are protec t ed cannot be deleted.
- 40 - Basic Setting the Menu The camera comes with menus that allow you to cho ose the settings for taking pictures and playing them back jus t as you like and menus t hat enable you to hav e more fun with the camera and us e it more eas ily .
- 41 - Basic ∫ Close the menu Press [ ] until the screen returns to th e recording/playback screen or press the shutter button half-w ay . • There a re functions that cannot be set or us ed de pending on the modes or menu s ettings being used on the camer a due to the specifi cations.

- 53 - Recording This function works when any of the pict ure sizes (P78) indicated with is selected. Y ou can zoom in further than you can with t he Optica l Z oom without deteriorating the im age quality . Maximum magnification: 9 k (This includes the optical zoom magnification.

- 58 - Recording T aking Close-up Pictures ([AF Macro]/[Macro Zoom ]) Appl ica ble m od es: This mode allows you to take close-up pictures of a s ubject, e.g. when taking pictures of flowers. Press 4 [ # ]. Press 3 / 4 to s elect the item a nd then press [M ENU/SET].
- 59 - Recording T aking Pictures with the Self-time r Appl ica ble m od es: Press 2 [ ë ]. Press 3 / 4 to s elect the item a nd then press [M ENU/SET]. • When you pres s the shutter but ton once fully , the subject is aut omat ically focused just before recording.
- 60 - Recording Compensating th e Exposure Appl ica ble m od es: Use this function when you cannot achieve appr opriat e exposure due to the difference in brightness between the subject and the background. Press 3 [ È ] until [Expo sure] appears. • EV is an abbrevi at ion of [Exposure V alue], a unit indic ating the amo unt of exposure.
- 61 - Recording T aking Pictures Using Auto Brack et Appl ica ble m od es: In this mode, 3 pictures are automatically r e corded in the selected exposure compensation range each time the shutter button is pressed. With Auto Brack et d 1E V Press 3 [ È ] until [Auto Bracket] appear s.
- 62 - Recording T aking Pictures with different ima ge effects (Creative Control Mode) Recording Mode: This mode records with additional image effects. Y ou can set t he effects to add by selecting example images a nd checking them on the sc reen. Press [MO DE].
- 63 - Recording ¢ These pic tures are ex amples to s how the effect. This effect emphasizes the color t o make a pop art picture. This effect gives a faded image. This effect adds a bright, airy and soft feel to the overall image. This effect adds a dark and relaxing feel to the overall image and enhances bright parts.
- 64 - Recording This ef fect creates a se pia image. This effect gi ves a higher contrast to create an impressive black and white picture. This effect gi ves your photo a dramatic contrast look. This effect produces the optimum brightness fo r both dark and bright part s.
- 65 - Recording This effect gi ves your photo a dramatic color look. This effect reduces peripheral brightness to give the impression of a toy camera. [Cross Proc ess] Items that can be set Color Green tone/Blue tone/Y ellow tone/Red tone • Press 2 / 1 to select the color to enhan c e, and press [MENU/S ET].
- 66 - Recording This effect blurs peripheral ar eas to give the im pression of a diorama. This effect l eaves one selected color to emphasize impressiveness . [Miniature Ef fect] • Display of the r ec ordi ng screen will be delayed more th an us ual and the screen will look as if frames are bei ng dropped.
- 67 - Recording T ake the Outdoors Scene Expres sively Recording Mode: By setting the Recording Mode to [ ] , [ ], [ ] or [ ] pictures can be taken more ef f ectively matching the conditions such as sports, snow , beach & surf. • T one of the col o r of the image may ch ange when picture is t a ken with un mat c hed usage.
- 68 - Recording This mode is opt imal for taking pictures at depths of 3 m (10 feet) to 7 m (23 feet). Y ou can use [Color Reproduction] (P95) in the [Rec] menu and take pictures und erwater without losing the red t inge. ¢ This c amer a has a wa terpro of/du stpro of fun ction equiva lent to “I P68”.
- 69 - Recording T aking panorama pictures ([Pan orama Shot ]) Recording Mode: Pictures are recorded continuously while moving the camera horizontally or vertically , and are combined to m ake a single panorama p icture. Press [MO DE]. Press 3 / 4 / 2 / 1 to selec t [Panorama Shot], and then press [MENU/SET].

Press th e shutter b utton once ag ain to end the still picture recor ding. • Recording can also be ended b y keeping the camer a still while recordi ng.
- 71 - Recording ∫ T echnique for Panorama Shot Mode • The zoom posit ion is fixed to Wide. • The focus , white balance, and exposu re are f ixed at the optimum values for the firs t pictu r e.
- 72 - Recording T aking pictures that match the sc ene being recorded (Scene Mod e) Recording Mode: When you se lect a Scene Mode to m atch the subject and recording situ ation, the camera sets the optimal exposure and hue to obtain the desired picture.
- 73 - Recording When taking pictures of people outdoors during the daytime, this mode allows y ou to improve the appearance and make their skin tones look healthier . ∫ T echnique for Portrait Mode T o mak e this mode more effective: 1 Press and hold down the z oom button as far as possible to T ele.
- 74 - Recording This allows you to take pictures of a per son and the background with near real-life brightness. ∫ T echnique for Night Portrait Mode • Use the flash. (Y ou can set to [ ].) • Ask the subj ect not to move while ta k ing a pict ure.
- 75 - Recording This takes pictures of a baby with a healthy complexion. When you use the flash, the light from it is weaker than usual. It is possible to set di fferent birthdays and names for [Baby1] and [Baby2]. Y ou can select to have these appear at the time of playback, or have them stamped on the recorded image using [T ext S tamp] (P108) .
- 76 - Recording Select this when you want to take pictures of a pet suc h as a dog or a cat. Y ou can set your pet’s birthday and name. For information about [Age] or [Name], refer to [ Baby1]/[Baby 2] on P75 . Select this when you want to t ak e pictures of a sunset view .
- 77 - Recording Entering T ext It is possible to ent er babies’ and pets’ names and the locations when recording. When a sc reen that looks like the o ne on the right is displayed, you can enter characters. (Only al phabetical characters and symbols can be entered.
- 78 - Recording Using the [Rec] Menu For det ails o n [Rec] menu setting s, refer t o P40 . Appl ica ble m od es: Set the number of pixels. The hi gher the numbers of pixels, the finer the detail of the pictures will appear even when they are print ed onto large sheets.
- 79 - Recording Appl ica ble m od es: This allows the Sensitivity to light (ISO sensitiv ity) to be set. Setting to a higher figure en ables pictures to be taken even in dar k places wi thout the resulting pictures coming out dark. • For th e foc us range of fl a sh when [ ] i s set, r efer to P5 7 .
- 80 - Recording Appl ica ble m od es: In sunlight, under incandescent lights or in other s uch conditions where the color of white takes on a reddish or bluish tinge, this item adjusts to the color of w hite which is closest to what is seen by the eye in accordance with the light source.
- 81 - Recording ∫ Auto White Balance Depending on the conditions prevailing when pictures are taken, the pictures may take on a reddish or bluish tinge. Furthermore, when a mult iple number of l ight so urces are being used or there is nothing with a color c lose to white, Au to White Balance may not function pro perly .
- 82 - Recording Appl ica ble m od es: This allows the focusing method that suits t he posit ions and number of the subjects to be selected. ¢ 1[ Ø ] will be used during recording mot ion pi ctures or using [T ime Lapse Shot]. ¢ 2[ Ø ] will be used during recordi ng mot ion pictures.
- 83 - Recording ∫ About [ š ] ([Face Detection] ) The following AF area frames are displayed when t he camera detects the face s. Y ellow: When the shutter button is pressed halfway , the frame turns green when the camera is focused. White : Displayed when more than one face is detected.
- 84 - Recording ∫ Setting up [ ] ([ AF T racking ]) Align the sub ject with the AF tracking frame, and then press 4 to lock onto the subject. A AF tr ac king fr am e • AF area will be displayed i.
- 85 - Recording Appl ica ble m od es: Face Recognition is a function which finds a f ace res embling a registered face and prioritize s focus and exposur e automatically . Even if the person is located t owards the back or on the end of a line in a group photo, the camera can still t ak e a clear picture.
- 86 - Recording Y ou can register information such as names and birthdays for face images of up to 6 people. Registration can be f acilitated by taking multiple face images of each person. (up to 3 pict ures /regis tration) 1 Select [Face Recog.] on the [Rec] menu and then press [MENU/SET ].
- 87 - Recording 5 Select item to edit with 3 / 4 , and then press [MENU/SET ]. • Exit the menu af ter it is set. If you take p ictures continuously w hile saving , the maximum number o f recordable pi ctures decreases .
