- 10 - Prepar ation Charging the Bat tery Use th e dedica ted AC a daptor (suppl ied), U SB connec tion cabl e (sup plied) an d batter y . • The batter y is not charged when the camer a is shipped. Charge the battery before use. • Char ge t he ba ttery on ly w hen it is ins erte d in t he cam era.

- 12 - Prepar ation • Charge the ba ttery in areas w ith an ambient tem perature, bet ween 10 o C and 30 o C (50 o F and 86 o F ) (same as the batter y temperature), is recommended.
- 13 - Prepar ation ∫ About the ch arging lamp ∫ Cha rging time When using the A C adaptor (supplied) • The indicated charging time i s for when the batter y has been dischar ged completel y . The charging time may vary depending on how the battery has been used.
- 14 - Prepar ation • Do not leave any metal items (such as clip s) near the conta ct areas of the power plug. Otherwise, a fire and/or electri c shocks may be caused by short-circu iting or the resulting heat genera ted.
- 15 - Prepar ation ∫ Recording still pictures Recording conditions by CIP A standard • CIP A is an abbrev iation of [ Camera & Imaging Produc ts Assoc iation]. • T emperatu re: 23 o C (73.4 o F)/Humid ity: 50%RH when monitor is on. • Using a Panasonic SD Memory Card.
- 16 - Prepar ation ∫ Playback • The opera ting times and nu mber of recordable pictures will differ ac cording to the environment and the operating conditions. For example, in the followi ng cases, the operating t imes will shorten and the number of recordable pictures is reduced: – In low-t emperature environm ents, such as on ski s lopes.
- 17 - Prepar ation Inserting and Removing t he Card (optional) • Che ck that this un it is turn ed off. • We rec ommend using a Panason ic card. 1 Slide the r elease le ver in the dire ction of the arrow and open the card/ battery door .
- 18 - Prepar ation About the Built-in Memory/ the Card • Y ou can copy the record ed picture s to a card. (P92) • Memory size: Approx. 80 MB • The access time for the built-in memory may be longer tha n the ac cess time for a card. The following cards, which conform to the SD st andard, can be used with this unit.
- 19 - Prepar ation • During acce ss (image writi ng, reading and deleting, for matting etc.), do not turn thi s unit off, remove the ba ttery , c ard or disconnect the AC adaptor (supplied). Furthe rmore, do not subject the cam era to vibratio n, impact or st atic electrici ty .
- 20 - Prepar ation ∫ About the displ ay of the numb er of recordable pictures an d available recording t ime ∫ Number of recordable pictures • [ i 99999 ] is displayed if t here are more than 100, 000 pictur es remaining.
- 21 - Prepar ation Setting Date/Time (Clock Set) • The clock is not set when the camera is shippe d. 1 Press came ra [ON/OFF] button . • If the lang uage select scr een is not displaye d, proceed t o step 4 . 2 Press [MENU/SET]. 3 Press 3 / 4 to s elect the langua ge, and press [M ENU/SET].
- 22 - Prepar ation Select [Clock Set] on the [Setup] menu and then press [MENU/S ET]. (P37) • The clock can be reset as shown in steps 5 and 6 . • The clock setting is maintained for a bout 7 days using the built-in clock battery even without the battery .

- 24 - Basic Selecting the Recording Mode ∫ List of Recording M odes • When the mode has been swit ched from Playback Mo de to Re cording Mo de, the p reviousl y set Recording Mode will be set. 1 Press [MO DE]. 2 Press 3 / 4 / 2 / 1 to select the Recording M ode.
- 25 - Basic T aking pictures using the automa tic function (Intelligent Auto Mode) Recording Mode: The camera will set the m ost appropriate settings to match the subject and the recording conditions so we recommend this m ode for beginners or those who want to leave the s ettings to the camera and take pictures easily .
- 26 - Basic 3 Press th e shutter button halfway to focus. • The focus i ndication B (green) ligh ts when the subje ct is focused . • The AF area C is displayed around t he subjec t’s f ace by the Face Detection fu nction. In other case s, it is dis played at the point on th e subject whic h is in focus.
- 27 - Basic When the camera identifies the optimum s cene, the icon of the scene concerned is displayed in blue for 2 se conds, after which its colour c hanges to the usual red. When takin g pictures • [ ¦ ] is set if none of the scenes are ap plicable, and the stand ard settings are set.

- 29 - Basic T aking pictures with your favouri te settings (Normal Picture Mode) Recording Mode: The camera automatically sets the shutter speed and the aperture value according to the brightness of the subject. Y ou can take pictures with greater freedom by changing various set tings in the [Rec] m enu.
- 30 - Basic Focusing Aim the AF area at the subject, and then pres s the shutter b utton halfway . • The AF area may be disp layed larger for cert ain zoom magnif ications and in dark places. ∫ About focus range The focus range is displayed when operating the zoom.
- 31 - Basic ∫ When the su bject is not in focus (such as when it is n ot in the centre of the composition of the picture you want to take) 1 Aim the AF area at the subject, and press the shutter button half way to fix the focus and exposure. 2 Press and hold the shutter button half way while moving the camera as you compo se the pict ure.
- 32 - Basic Recording Motion Pictures Appl ica ble m odes : This unit can rec ord motion pict ures in QuickTime Motion JPEG format. A Available re cording time B Elapse d recording time • Y ou can re cord motion pictures fitting each Record ing Mode.
- 33 - Basic • Depending on the type of the card, the card acc ess indicatio n may appea r for a while af ter record ing motion pict ures. This is not a malf unction. • The screen may be bla cked out moment arily , or the unit may record nois e due to sta tic electricity or electroma gnetic waves etc.
- 34 - Basic Playing Back 1 Press [ ( ]. ∫ Playing Back Motion Pictu res Press 2 / 1 to select a picture with a Motion Picture icon (such as [ ]), and then press 3 to play back. - 35 - Basic • When the camer a is turned of f, press and hold [ ( ]. If yo u turn it on this way , th e playback s creen will be displayed automa tically . (If too many images are store d in the card, it may t ake a while for the c amera to turn on .
- 36 - Basic Deleting Pictures Once deleted, pictu res cannot be recovered. • Pictures on t he built-in memory or the card that are be ing played back will be dele ted. • Pictures th at are not in th e DCF standar d or thos e that are protec ted cannot be deleted.
- 37 - Basic Setting the Menu The camera comes with menus that allow you t o choose the settings for taking pictures and playing them back jus t as you like and menus that enable y ou to have more fun with the camera and us e it more easily .

- 43 - Basic • [Auto P ower Off] doe s not work in th e followin g cases. – When conne cting to a PC or a printe r – When record ing or playing ba ck motion picture s – During a Slid e Show • The ef fect of the [Moni tor Power Save ] is lower in the Digit al Zoom range comp ared to th e Optical Zoom range.
- 44 - Basic • [Auto R ev iew] does n ot work whe n recording motion pictures . • When the setup s ettings are res et, the follo wing settings are also reset. – The birth day setting s for [Baby1 ]/[Baby2 ] and [Pet] in Scene Mode. • The folder number and the cl ock setting are no t changed.

- 46 - Recording About the Monitor Press 4 to change . • During moti on picture playbac k, panorama playback or a slide show , you can only select “Normal Disp lay” or “No Display”.
- 47 - Recording Using the Zoom Appl ica ble m odes : Y ou can zoom in to make people and object s appear closer or zoom out to record landscapes in wide angle. ∫ Screen display Example of display when Extra Optical Zoom (EZ), Intelligent Zoom and Digital Zoom are used together .
- 48 - Recording This function work s when any of the picture size s (P69) indicated with is selected. Y ou can zoom in further than you can with the Optical Zoom without deteriorating the ima ge quality . Maximum magnification: 27 k (This includes th e optical zoom magnification .
- 49 - Recording T aking Pictures Using the Built-in Flash Appl ica ble m odes : Set the flash to match the recording. 1 Press 1 [ ‰ ]. Flash Do not cover it with your fingers or other objects.
- 50 - Recording 2 Press 3 / 4 to s elect the setting and then pres s [MENU/SET]. ¢ 1 This can be set only when Intelligent Auto Mode is set. The icon chan ges dependi ng on the type of subj ect and brigh tness. ¢ 2 The flash is activated twice. The subject should not move until the second flash i s activ ated.

- 53 - Recording T aking Pictures with the Self-time r Appl ica ble m odes : 1 Press 2 [ ë ]. 2 Press 3 / 4 to s elect the setting and then pres s [MENU/SET]. • If you use the zoom, the lens barrel will be extended. This may cause the camer a t o tilt .
- 54 - Recording Compensating th e Exposure Appl ica ble m odes : Use this function when you cannot achieve appr opriat e expos ure due to the difference in brightness between the subject and the background. 1 Press 3 [ È ] to displa y [Exposure Comp.
- 55 - Recording T aking Pictures with different ima ge effect s (Creative Control Mode) Recording Mode: This mode allows you to add any of 15 types of effects before recording. Y ou can set the effects to add by selecting example images and checking them o n the screen.
- 56 - Recording For details o n how to select the “Creative Control Mode” setti ngs, refer to P55 . ¢ These pic tures ar e examples to show t he ef fect. This effect emphasises the colour t o make a pop art picture. This effect gives a faded image.
- 57 - Recording This effect adds a dark and relaxing feel to the overall i mage and enhances bright parts. This effect creates a sepia image. This effect gi ves a higher contrast to create an impressive black and white picture. This effect gi ves your photo a dramatic contrast look.
- 58 - Recording This effect produces the optimum brightness for b oth dark and b right part s. This effect gi ves your photo a dramatic colour look. This effect reduces peripheral brightness to give th e impression of a t oy camera.
- 59 - Recording This effect blurs peripheral ar eas to give the im pression of a diorama. This effect blurs the overall image t o produce a s oft feel. [Miniature Ef fect] Items that can be set Directi on of t he blur Horizont al/V er tical • Press 2 / 1 to select the di rection of th e blur , and press [MENU/S ET].
- 60 - Recording This effect transforms pin-points of light into a star effect. This effect l eaves one selected colour to emphasise impres siveness. [St ar Filter] • Display of the recording scre en will be delayed more than usual an d the screen will look as if frames are dropping .
- 61 - Recording T aking panorama pictures (Panorama Shot Mod e) Recording Mode: Pictures are recorded continuously while moving the camera horizontally or vertically , and are combined to m ake a single panorama p icture. This mode allows you to add any of 13 types of effects before recording.
- 62 - Recording 7 Press th e shutter button fully and rec ord a picture while moving the camera in a small circ le in the direct ion selected in Step 3 . 8 Press th e shutter button once again to end the pic ture recordi ng. • Recording can also be e nded by keep ing the camer a still while recording.
- 63 - Recording • The zoom posit ion is fixed to Wide. • [S tabilizer] is fixed to [OFF]. • The focus , White Balance, and ex posure are fix ed at the opt imum values for the fir st picture.
- 64 - Recording T aking pictures that match the sc ene being recorded (Scene Mode) Recording Mode: Y ou can select any of 15 types of Scene Modes according to the subject and scene. 1 Press [MO DE]. 2 Press 3 / 4 / 2 / 1 to select [Sce ne Mode], and the n press [MENU/SET].
- 65 - Recording When taking pictures of people outdoors during the daytime, this mode allows you to improve the appearance and make their skin tones look healthier . ∫ T echnique for Portrait Mode T o mak e this mode more ef fective: 1 Rotate the zoom lever as far as possible to T ele.
- 66 - Recording This allows you to take pictures of a per son and the background with near real-life brightness. • Use the flash. (Y ou can se t to [ ].) • Ask the subj ect not to move while taki ng a picture. • We recomme nd using a tripod and the Self-time r for taking pictures.
- 67 - Recording This takes pictures of a baby wi th a healthy complexion. It is possible to set di fferent birthdays for [Baby1] and [Baby2]. Y ou can display those during playback. ∫ Birthday setting 1 Press 3 / 4 to select [Age] and then press [MENU/SET].
- 68 - Recording This mode allows you to take vivid pic tures of a starry sk y or a dark subject. ∫ Setting the shutter speed Select a shu tter speed of [15 sec.], [30 sec.] or [60 sec.]. • Press the sh utter butto n fully to displa y the count down screen.
- 69 - Recording Using the [Rec] Menu For det ail s on [R ec] menu setting s, refer to P37 . Appl ica ble m odes : Set the number of pixels. The higher the numbers of pixels, the finer the detail of the pictures will appear even when they are printed onto large sheets.
- 70 - Recording Appl ica ble m odes : This allows the Sensitivity to light (ISO sensitiv ity) to be set. Setting to a higher figure enables pictures to be taken even in dark places wi thout the re sulting pictures coming out dark. • For th e focus ran ge of fla sh when [AU TO] is s et, refer to P52 .
- 71 - Recording Appl ica ble m odes : In sunlight, under incandescent light s or in othe r such conditions where the colour of white takes on a reddish or bluish tinge, this item adjusts to the colour of white wh ich is closest to what is seen by the eye i n ac cordance with the light source.
- 72 - Recording ∫ Auto White Balance Depending on the conditions prevailing when pictures are taken, the pictures may take on a reddish or bluish tinge. Furthermor e, when a mult iple number of light so urces are being used or there is nothing with a colour close to white, Auto White Balance may not function pr operly .
- 73 - Recording Appl ica ble m odes : This allows the focusing method that suits t he positions and number of the subjects t o be selected. ¢ [ Ø ] will be used du ring motion pictur e recording. • The settin g is fixed to [ Ø ] in the following cases.
- 74 - Recording ∫ About [ š ] ([Face Detection] ) The following AF area frames are dis played when the camera detects the face s. Y ellow: When the shutter button is pressed halfway , the frame turns green when the camera is focused. White : Displayed when more than one face is detected.
- 75 - Recording Appl ica ble m odes : Contrast and expos ure will be adjusted a utoma tically when there is a big di fference in brightness between the background and subject, to bring the i mage close to real life. Setti ngs: [ON]/ [OFF] • Compensati on eff ect may not be achieved depending on th e condition s.
- 76 - Recording Appl ica ble m odes : Pictures are t aken c ontinuously wh ile the shutter button is pressed. ¢ The number of Burst recording pict ures are limite d by the picture -taki ng conditio ns and the type and/or st atus of the c ard used.
- 77 - Recording • Depending on the operating conditions , it may take time to take the next picture if you repeat the recording of pictures. • It may t ake time to save p ictures t aken in Burst Mod e on the card. If you t ake pic tures continuously w hile saving, the m aximum numbe r of recorda ble pictures decre ases.
- 78 - Recording Appl ica ble m odes : When Red-Eye Reduction ([ ], [ ]) is selected, Red-Eye Removal is performed whenever the flash is used. The camera automatic ally detects red-eye and corrects the picture. Setti ngs: [ON]/ [OFF] • This function works only when the camera det ects a face.
- 79 - Recording Appl ica ble m odes : Y ou can take a picture with date and time of recording. • Date information for pi ctures recorded with the [Date Stamp] set cannot be deleted. • When prin ting pictures with [Date Stamp] at a shop or with a printer , the date wi ll be printed on top of th e other if you choose to print with the date.
- 80 - Recording Using the [Motion Picture] Menu For details on [Motion Picture] menu setti ngs, refer to P37 . • The [Motion Pict ure] menu is not display ed in the following cases. – [Soft Focus]/[S tar F ilter] (Creative Con trol Mode) Appl ica ble m odes : This sets up the pictu re quality of motion pictures.
- 81 - Playback/Editing V arious method s of playback Y ou can play back the recorded pictures in various methods. 1 Press [ ( ]. 2 Press [MO DE]. 3 Press 3 / 4 / 2 / 1 to select item , and then pre ss [MENU/SET]. • Following it ems can be selected.
- 82 - Playback/Editing Y ou can play back the pictures you have taken in sequence at specified i ntervals. This playback method is recomm ended when you hav e connected the c amera to a TV set to view the pictures you have taken. 2 Press 3 to select [St art] an d then press [MENU/SET].
- 83 - Playback/Editing ∫ Changing the slide show settings Y ou can change the sett ings for Slide Show P layback by s electing [Effect] or [Setup] on the slide show menu screen. [Effect] Screen effects can be added to picture transitions. [ON]/[OF F] • When playing ba ck a panorama picture, the [ Effect ] setting is disabl ed.
- 84 - Playback/Editing This mode allows you to search images by Scen e Mode or other ca tegories (such as [Portrait], [Scenery] or [Night Scenery]) and sort the pictur es into each of the categories. Y ou can then play back the pictures in each category .
- 85 - Playback/Editing Y ou can search for images by recorded date. • The recording date of the pict ure selected in the pla yback scree n becomes the date selec ted when the calend ar screen is first dis played. • Y ou can display the calendar between Janu ary 2000 and Decembe r 2099.
- 86 - Playback/Editing Having Fun with Recorde d Pictures ([ Creative Retouch]) Y ou can add your desired effect s to the pictures that you have t aken. • The processed pictures are newly generated , so be sure that yo u have enough spa ce in the built-in memory or on the card.
- 87 - Playback/Editing Using the [Playb ack] Menu For details o n [Playb ack] menu settings, refer to P37 . Y ou can perform actions like cropping recorded pict ures, as well as set up the protection of recorded images, et c. • With [Retou ch], [Resize] or [Croppi ng], a new edite d picture is creat ed.
- 88 - Playback/Editing ∫ T o delete the received loc ation information 1 Select [Location Logging] on the [Playback] menu. 2 Press 3 / 4 to select [Delete Location Dat a] and then press [MENU/SET]. 3 Press 3 / 4 to select the period you want to delete, then press [MENU/SET].
- 89 - Playback/Editing T o allow easy posting to web pages, attachment to email etc., picture size (number of pixels) is reduced. 1 Select [Resize] on th e [Playback] menu. 2 Press 3 / 4 to s elect [SINGLE] or [MUL TI] and then pres s [MENU/SET]. • Y ou can s et up to 50 pi ctures a t one time in [MUL TI].
- 90 - Playback/Editing Y ou can enlarge and then clip the import ant part of the recorded picture. 1 Select [Croppin g] on the [Play back] menu. 2 Press 2 / 1 to s elect the pictur e, and then press [MENU/SET]. 3 Use the zoom leve r and pres s 3 / 4 / 2 / 1 to select the p arts to be cropped .
- 91 - Playback/Editing Y ou can set protection for pictures you do not want to be deleted by mistake. 1 Select [Protec t] on the [Playb ack] menu. 2 Press 3 / 4 to s elect [SINGLE] or [MUL TI] and then pres s [MENU/SET]. ∫ Cancelling all th e [Protect] settings 1 Select [Protect] on the [ Playback] menu.
- 92 - Playback/Editing Y ou can copy the data of t he pictures you have taken from the built-in m emory to a c ard or from a card to the buil t-in mem ory . 1 Select [Copy] on the [Playba ck] menu. 2 Press 3 / 4 to s elect the copy d estination an d then press [ MENU/SET].
- 93 - Wi-Fi Wi-Fi R function ∫ Use the camera as a wi reless LAN device When using equipment or computer systems that require more reliable security than wireless LAN devices, ensure that the appr opriate measures are taken for safety designs and defects for the systems used.
- 94 - Wi-Fi ∫ About the Wi-Fi connection lamp ∫ About the [Wi-Fi ] butto n (When conn ecting to a s martphone/t ablet) Press and h old [Wi-Fi], a nd release it af ter the Wi-Fi connection lamp light s up. • The informa tion required for c onnecting th e smartphon e/tabl et to this unit (QR c ode, SSID and password) is displayed.
- 95 - Wi-Fi • When sending images on a mobile network, high packet communication fee s may be incurred dependi ng on the details of your contrac t. • Pictures may not be completely s ent depending on rad io wave conditi ons. If the co nnection is terminated while sending pic tures, pictu res with missing sections may be s ent.
