T o use t he Optional External Viewfinder (P162) or External Flash (P164), please remove the hot shoe cover . Press the hot s hoe cov er release bu tton and pull the shoe co ver in th e direction o f the arrow .
VQT2 G62 14 Before Use About the Lens This unit can use the dedicated lenses compatible with the Micro Four Thirds ™ System lens mount specification (Micro Four Thirds mount). Select a lens t hat matches the scene being recorded and yo ur use of the p ictures.

17 VQT2G62 Preparat ion ∫ Optical Image St abilizer The Optical Image S tabilizer f unction is set for activation when the lens is att ached to the camera body . Set the [O.I.S. ] switch to [ ON]. • Y ou can ch ange the Optical Image S tabilizer mo de to [MODE1 ], [ MODE2 ] or [M ODE3] u sing [S T AB ILIZER ] in the [RE C] mode m enu.
VQT2 G62 18 Preparation Attaching the Lens Hood In bright sunlight or bac klight, the lens hood will minim ise lens flare and ghosting. The lens hood cuts of f excess lighting and improves the picture quality . • The 20 mm/F1. 7 interch angeabl e lens suppli ed with the DMC-GF1C does not have a lens hood.

VQT2 G62 20 Preparation Charging the Battery ∫ About batteries that you can use with this unit The battery that can be used with this unit is DMW-BLB13E. • Use the dedica ted charger and battery . • The camera has a funct ion for disting uishi ng batteries whi ch can be used safely .
21 VQT2G62 Preparat ion ∫ Chargi ng • The indicate d charging time is for when t he batter y has b een disc harged comp letely . The charging time ma y vary depen ding on how the batt ery has be en use d.
VQT2 G62 22 Preparation • T urning t he camera off every 10 recording s and l eaving it unti l the t emperatu re of the battery decreases . The number of recordable pictures varies depending on the recording interval time. If the recording interval time becomes longer , t he number of recordable pictures decrease s.
23 VQT2G62 Preparat ion Note • The operating times a nd number of recor dable pictures will differ according to the environment a nd the operating condi tions. For exampl e, in t he following cas es, the operating tim es shorten and the num ber of recordable p ictures is r educed.
VQT2 G62 24 Preparation Inserting and Remo ving the Card (opti onal)/the Battery • Check that this unit is turned of f. • Close the flash. • We rec ommend using a Pa nasonic card . Slide the rele ase lev er in the direc tion of the arrow a nd open the card/battery door .
25 VQT2G62 Preparat ion About the Card Access to the card The access indication lights red when pictures are being recorded on the card. The following types of c ards can be us ed with this unit.
VQT2 G62 26 Preparation Setting Date/Time (Clock Set) • The clock i s not set when the camera is shipped . T urn the camera on. A [MENU /SET] b utton Press [MENU/SET]. Press 2 / 1 to select the it ems (y ear , month, day , hour , minute, displa y sequence or time display form at), and pr ess 3 / 4 to set .

VQT2 G62 28 Preparation This section describes how to select the [REC] mode m enu settings, and the same setting can be used for the [ MOTION PICT URE] mode menu, [CUSTOM M ENU] menu, [SETUP] menu, [MY MENU] menu and [PLA YBACK] mode menu as well.

VQT2 G62 30 Preparation Setting the Quick M enu By using the Quick Menu, some of the menu set tings can be easily found. • The fea tures th at can be adjust ed using Quick Menu are determine d by the mode or a dis play style the c amera is in. Press [Q.
31 VQT2G62 Preparat ion Perform these settings if you need to. About the Setup Menu [CLOCK SET], [ECONOMY ] and [AUTO REVIEW] are important i tems. Check their settings before using them. • In the In telligen t Auto Mode, only [CLOCK SET ], [ WORLD T IME], [BEEP] and [LANGUA GE] can be set.

33 VQT2G62 Preparat ion • Adjust the brightn ess of the sc reen with 3 / 4 , contrast and s aturatio n with 2 / 1 or the rear dial. • When [DISPLA Y] is pressed in screen shown righ t, it will switch to the colour a djustment s creen. A djust between red and g reen with 3 / 4 , or between ora nge and blue with 2 / 1 or the re ar dial .

41 VQT2G62 Basic [REC ] mode : ñ T aking p ictures using the automati c function ( ñ : Intelligent Auto Mode) The camera will set the most appropriate settings to match the subject and the recording conditions so we recommend this mode for beginners or those who want to leave the settings to the camera and take pictures easily .

Y ou can take pict ures with greater freedom by changing various settings in [REC] menu.

59 VQT2G62 Advanced (Recor ding pictures ) ∫ About the Histogram A histogram is a graph that display s brightnes s along the horizontal axis (black to white) and the number of pixels at each brightness level on t he vertical axis. It allows you to easily check a picture’s exposure.

VQT2 G62 64 Advanced (Recor ding picture s) Applicable modes: 2nd curtain synchro activates the flash just bef ore the shutter closes when taking pictures of moving o bjects such as cars using a slow shut ter speed. Select [FLASH SYNCHRO] in the [REC] m ode menu.

VQT2 G62 78 Advanced (Recor ding picture s) Note • The optimal whit e balance will dif fer depending on the typ e of halogen light ing being recorde d unde r so use [A WB], [ ] or [ ]. • The whit e balance might not be adjust ed for a subject that the f lash canno t reach when t he flash is used.

85 VQT2G62 Advanced (Recor ding pictures ) When you want to take a sharp picture of a fast moving subject, set with a faster shutter speed. When you want to create a trail ef f ect, set to a slower shutter speed. Set the mode dial to [ ]. Rotate the rear d ial to set the shutter speed.
