Prepara tion 20 Attach ing the Len s Hood In bright sunlight or backlight, the lens hood will minimize lens flare and ghosting. The lens hood cuts off excess lighting and improv es the picture quality . • Check that the camera is turned off and that the lens is retracted.

Prepara tion 30 ∫ Histogram • A histogram is a graph that displa ys brightness along the horizontal axis (blac k to white) and the number of pixels at each brightness level on the vertical axis. • It allows t he camera user to easily check the wa y a picture is being e xposed.

Recording pictures (ba sic) 34 ∫ Focusing • The focus r ange is 0.98 f eet (30 cm) – ¶ (Wide), 3.94 f eet (120 cm) – ¶ ( T ele). • If you press the shutter button fully wit hout prefocusing, pictures ma y be b l urr y or unfocused. • When the focus indicat ion is blinking, the subject is not f ocused.

Recording pictures (ad vanced) 64 • In panning mode, the shutter speed becomes slower than usual to achie ve the panning effect. As a result, jitter can easily occur . • P anning function does not work well in the follo wing situations. – V ery br ight scenes suc h as daytime in summer .

Recording pictures (ad vanced) 68 This function allows you to reproduc e a white color closer to the tone in real lif e on the pictures reco rded under sunlight, halogen lighting, etc. i n which the white color may appear red dish or bluish. • When setting the white balance to t he mode except [A UT O ], you can finely adjust the white balance .
Recording pictu res (advanced) 69 ∫ Setting the White Balance manual ly (Whit e set ) Use this mode when you w ant to set the white balance manually . 1 Set to [ ] (White Set) and then press 1 . 2 Aim the camera at a sheet of wh ite paper or a similar w hite object so that the f rame on the center of the screen turns white and then pres s 1 .
Recording pictures (ad vanced) 70 ISO sensitivity represents the sensitivity to light in values. If you set the ISO sensitivity higher , the camera becomes more suitable for recording in dark places. • When setting to [A UTO], the ISO sensitivity is automat ically adjusted from [ISO80] to [ISO200] according to the brigh tness.
Recording pictu res (advanced) 71 Y ou can se lect 3 types of quality (compression rate) according to the us age of the picture. • When the quality is set to [TIFF], a JPEG picture with the quality equal to the standard is c reated at the same time.
Recording pictures (ad vanced) 72 Y ou can s witch to the f ollowing metering modes. Meteri ng Mo de [MET ERIN G MODE] Multiple: This is the m ethod in which the camera measures the most suitable ex posure by judging the allocation of brightness on the whole screen automatically .
Recording pictu res (advanced) 73 • When setting to 3-area-focusing, pictures may become still while being f ocus ed on, howe v er , this is not a malfunction. • In the digital z oom or when you take pictures in dark places, the AF area is display ed on t he center of the screen with a size wider than usual.
Recording pictures (ad vanced) 74 When taking a picture with pref ocus, set the button f or star ting AF (Auto f o cus) to [FOCUS] o n [AF T RIGGER]. Prefocus is a technique to focus on the point where you t ake a picture of the subject with quic k motion.
Recording pictu res (advanced) 75 Illuminating the subject with the AF assist lamp allows the camera t o focus on the subject in low light conditions. When you press the sh utter button halfw a y in dark places or other situations, an AF area wider than usual appears and the AF assist lamp 1 turns on.
Recording pictures (ad vanced) 76 It is possib le to further magnif y a subject already magnified 12 times with the optical zoom b y 4 more times with the digi tal zoom, thereby reaching a maximum of 48 times.
Recording pictu res (advanced) 77 • The stabiliz er function ma y not work sufficiently in the follo wing cases. – When too much jitter occurs – In digital zoom r ange – When taking pictures while f ollowing subjects in motion. – When the shutter s peed is extremely slow due to dark conditions or other reasons.

Playback (advan ced) 83 ∫ Singl e set ting Select the pictur e and set the number of prints. • The number of prints can be set from 0 to 999. • The number of prints icon [ ] appears. • When the number of prints is set to “0”, DPOF print setting is canceled.

Playback (advan ced) 89 4 Select [YES] or [NO] and set it. • When y ou select [YES], the picture is ov e rwritten. • When the original picture is protected, you cannot ov erwrite the resized picture. • It ma y not be possible to resize pictures recorded with other equipment.
