Preparation 13 Char ging the Ba ttery with the Char ger When the c amera is shipped, the battery is not charged. Charge the battery before use . 1 Attach the b attery to the c h arger . 2 Connect the c har ger to the electrical ou tlet. • When the [CHA RGE] indicator A lights in green, charging starts.

Preparation 17 About the Car d ∫ Access to the card While the card is being accessed (Recognizing/Recording/Reading/ Deleting), the c ard access indication 1 lights. When the c ard access indication 1 light s, do not: • tur n the camera of f . • remove the battery or the card.

Preparation 19 Attachin g the L ens Cap/Strap ∫ Lens Cap 1 Attach the l ens cap. ∫ Stra p 1 P ass the strap thr ough the hole at the Strap Eye let. 2 P ass the strap thr ough the stopper an d fasten the s trap. A : Pull the s trap 2 cm or m ore. • Attach the strap to the other side of the camera being careful not to twist it.
Prepara tion 20 Attach ing the Lens Hood In bright sunlight or backlight, the lens hood will minimize lens flare and ghosting. The lens hood cuts off e xce ss lighting and improv es the picture quality . • Check that the camera is turned off and that the lens is retracted.

Prepara tion 22 Setting Date /Time (Cloc k Set) ∫ Init ial se ttin g The clock is not set w hen the camera is shipped. When you turn the camera on, the fol lowing screen appears. • When pres sing the [MENU] button, the screen shown in step 2 appears.
Preparation 23 • When a fully charged batter y has b een inser ted f or more than 24 hours, the clock setting is stored (in the camera) f o r at least 3 months e ven if the battery is remov ed. (The storing time may be shor ter if the b attery is not charged sufficiently .

Prepara tion 30 ∫ Histogram • A histogram is a graph that displa ys brightness along the horizontal axis (black to white) and the number of pixels at each brightness level on the vertical axis. • I t allo ws the camer a user to easily check the wa y a picture is being e xposed.

Recording pictu res (basic) 33 ∫ AF/AE Lock (AF: Auto focus/ AE: Auto exposu re) When rec ording a picture of p eople with a composition as the abov e pict ure, you cannot focus on the subject because it is out of AF area in usual oper ation. In this case, 1 Aim the AF area at the subject.
Recording pictures (basi c) 34 ∫ Focusing • The focus r ange is 0.98 f eet (30 cm) – ¶ (Wide), 6.56 f eet (200 c m) – ¶ (T ele). • If you press the shutter button fully without prefocusing, pictures ma y be b l urr y or unfocused. • When the focus indicat ion is blinking, the subject is not f ocused.
Recording pictu res (basic) 35 • When you press the shutter button, t he screen may become bright f or a moment. This function allows easy adjust ment of f ocus and the recorded picture will not be aff ected. • We recommend setting the cloc k again before taking pictures.

Recording pictu res (advanced) 61 This mode allows you to take pictures against a night landscape. The subject can be recorded with brightness in real lif e by using the flash and the slow shutter speed. ∫ T echnique for Night portrait mode • Open the flash.
Recording pictures (ad vanced) 62 • In panning mode, the shutter speed becomes slower than usual to achie ve the panning effect. As a result, jitter can easily occur . • P anning function does not wor k well in t he follo wing situations. – V er y bright scenes such as da ytime in summer .

Recording pictures (ad vanced) 68 This function allows you to reproduc e a white color closer to the tone in real lif e on the pictures reco rded under sunlight, halogen lighting, etc. i n which the white color may appear red dish or bluish. • When setting the white balance to t he mode except [A UT O], you can finely adjust the white balance .
Recording pictu res (advanced) 69 ∫ Setting the White Balance manual ly (Whit e set ) Use this mode when you w ant to set the white balance manually . 1 Set to [ ] (White Set) and then press 1 . 2 Aim the camera at a sheet of wh ite paper or a similar w hite object so that the f rame on the center of the screen turns white and then pres s 1 .
Recording pictures (ad vanced) 70 ISO sensitivity represents the sensitivity to light in values. If you set the ISO sensit ivity higher , the camera becomes more suitable for recording in dark places. • When setting to [A UTO], the ISO sensitivity is automat ically adjusted from [ISO64] to [ISO200] according to the brightness.
Recording pictu res (advanced) 71 Y ou can se lect 3 types of quality (compression rate) according to the us age of the picture. • When the quality is set to [TIFF], a JPEG picture with the quality equal to the standard is c reated at the same time.
Recording pictures (ad vanced) 72 Y ou can s witch to the f ollowing metering modes. Meteri ng Mode [MET ERING M ODE] Multiple: This is the m ethod in which the camera measures the most suitable ex posure by judging the allocation of brightness on the whole screen automatically .
Recording pictu res (advanced) 73 • When s etting to 3-area-focusing, pictures may become still while being f ocus ed on, howe v er , this is not a malf unction. • When u sing the digital zoom or when you take pictures in dar k places, the AF area is display ed on the center of the screen with a size wider than usual.
Recording pictures (ad vanced) 74 Illuminating the subject with t he AF assist lamp allows the camera t o f ocus on the subject in low light conditions. When you press the shutter button halfwa y in dark places or other situations, an AF area wider than usual appears and the AF assist lamp 1 turns on.
Recording pictu res (advanced) 75 Y ou can us e 4 types of color effect s depending on the image of the picture . Use this function according to the recording situation and the atmosphere of the picture. • When you tak e pictures in dar k places, noise may become visible.

Playback (ad vanced) 84 ∫ Single s etting Select the picture and set the number of prints . • The number of pr ints can be set from 0 to 999. • The number of prints icon [ ] appears. • When the number of prints is set to “0”, DPOF pr int setting is canceled.

Playback (advan ced) 89 4 Select [YES] or [NO] and set it. • When you select [YES], the picture is ov e rwritten. • When the original picture is protected, you cannot ov erwrite the res ized picture. • It may not be possible to resize pictures recorded with other equipment.
