Before Use - 6 - ∫ When i nner s ide of the l ens i s fog ged (c ondensa tion) It is not a malfu nction or failure of the camera. It may be caused by the environment in which the camera is used.
- 7 - Before Use About the l ocation name information of th is unit Be sure to read the “User License Agreement for Location Name data” on P184 before using. When [GPS Setting ] is set to [ON], GPS function will operate even when the power is turned off.
Before Use - 8 - (Importa nt) About the W ate rproof/Dustproof and Anti-shock Performanc e of the Camera This does not guarant ee no dest ructio n, no malfunction, or waterpr oofing in all condi tions.
- 9 - Before Use ∫ Handling of th e camera • Wat erproofing is not gu aranteed if the unit is subject to an impact as a result of being hit or dropped , etc. If an impac t to the came ra occurs, it should b e inspected (s ubject to a fee) by a Panasonic’ s Service Centre to verify th at the waterproofing is still ef fective.
Before Use - 10 - 1 Check that there are no forei gn object s on the inner s ide o f the s ide door . • If there is any foreign obje c t, such as lint, hair , sand, etc ., on the surrou nding area, water will leak within a few seconds causing malfunction.
- 11 - Before Use • Use the c amera und erwater to 12 m (40 feet ) with t he water tempe rature be tween 0 o C and 40 o C (32 o F and 104 °F). • Do not use for scuba divi ng (Aqualung) . • Do not use the camera at a depth of over 12 m (40 fe et).
Before Use - 12 - 2 Drain water by holding the camera up side down and sh aking it lightly a few times. • Aft er using the camera at the seaside or und er water , or after washing it, wate r will remain at the speake r site of the camera for a while and it may cause lo wer sound or so und distortion .

Preparation - 16 - Preparation Att ach ing the Strap Run the strap throug h the strap eyelet on the came r a. • If the stra p c ord is loos e, it may snag when the side door is opene d or closed. Since damage or leaks may re su lt , b e s ur e to at tac h t he co rd fi rm ly, ch ec ki ng th a t it is not snagge d in the side door .
- 17 - Preparation Charging the Battery ∫ About batteries that you can use with this unit • Use the dedicate d charger an d battery . • The battery is not c harged when the camera is shipped. Charge the battery before use. • Charge th e battery with the charger ind oors.
Preparation - 18 - ∫ About the [CHARGE] indicator • When the [CHARGE] indica tor flashes – The batt ery temperature is too high or too low . It is re c ommend ed to c harge the batt ery again in an ambient te mperature between 10 o C and 30 o C (50 °F and 86 °F).
- 19 - Preparation ∫ Recording still pictures Recording conditions by C IP A standard • CIP A is an ab breviation of [Camera & Imag ing Product s Associatio n]. • T emperature: 23 o C (73.4 °F)/Humidi ty: 50%RH when LCD monitor is on. • Using a Panasoni c SD Memory Card ( 32 MB).
Preparation - 20 - ∫ Recor ding motion pi c tu res • These times are for an ambi ent temperat ure of 23 o C (7 3.4 °F) and a humidity of 50%RH. Please be awar e that thes e times are app roximate. • T ime of record ing without using the GPS func tion.
- 21 - Preparation Inserting and Removin g the Card (optiona l)/the Battery • Check that t his unit is turned of f. • Confirm that there is no foreign object. (P10) • We rec ommend using a Panaso nic card. 1 :Slide the [LOCK] switch A , and rel eas e the lock.
Preparation - 22 - Note • Remove the b attery a fter use. (The battery will be ex hauste d if left for a lon g period of time af ter being charg ed.) • T urn the camera of f and wait for the “LUMIX” di s play on th e LCD monitor to clear before removing the card or b attery .
- 23 - Preparation About the Built-in Memory /the Card • Y ou can copy the recor ded pictures to a card. ( P154) • Memory size: Approx. 20 MB • The access time for the built -in memory may be l onger than th e access time for a card.

Basic - 32 - Recording Mode: T aki ng Pictures with Y our Favourite Se ttings (Programme AE Mode) The camera automatically sets the shutt er speed and the aperture value according to the brightness of the subject. Y ou can take pictures with greater freedom by changing various settings in the [Rec] menu.
- 33 - Basic Focusing Aim the AF area a t the subject, and then pres s the shutter b utton halfway . • The AF area may be d isplayed larger f or certain z oom magnificati ons and in dark places . ∫ About f ocus range The focus range is displayed when operating the zoom.
Basic - 34 - ∫ When the subject is not in focus (such as when it is not in the centre of the composition of the picture you want to take) 1 Aim the AF area at the subject, and press the shutter button halfway to fix the focus and exposure. 2 Press and hold the shutter button halfway while moving the camera as you compose the picture.
- 35 - Basic Recording Mode: T aki ng Pictures Using the Autom atic Function (Intelligent Auto Mode) The camera will set the most appropriate settings to match the sub ject and the recording conditions so we recom mend this mode f or beginners or those who want to leave the settings to the camera and take pictures easily .
Basic - 36 - When the camera identifies the optimum scene, the i con of the scene concerned is displayed in blue for 2 s econds, after wh ich it s colour changes to the usual red. Basic - 42 - Playing Back Motion P ictures This unit was designed to play motion pictures using the A VCHD, M P4 and Qu ickT im e Motion JP EG formats. Press 2 / 1 to sel ect a pi cture with a motio n picture ico n (such as [ ]/[ ]), and then press 3 to p lay back.
- 43 - Basic Y ou can create a single still picture from a recorded m otion picture. Press 3 to p ause motion picture pla yback. Press [MENU/SET] . • Confirmati on screen is displayed. It is execut ed when [Y es] is select ed. Exit th e menu afte r it is executed.
Basic - 44 - Deleting Pictures Once deleted, pictures cannot be recovered. • Pictures on the built-in memor y or the card that are being pla yed back will be deleted. • Picture s that are not in th e DC F st andar d or those th at are prot ected cann ot be deleted.
- 45 - Basic Note • The picture group t aken in [Time Lap se Shot] (pictu res with the [ ] icon) wi ll be treated as a single pic ture. Deleting t he picture group will delete all pic tures in the gro up. (P107) • Do not turn th e c amera of f while deleting.
Basic - 46 - Setting the Menu The camera comes with menus that allow you to choose the settings for taking pict ures and playing them back just as you like and menus that enable you to have more fun with the camera and use it more easil y .

Basic - 48 - By using the Quick Menu, some of the menu settings can be easily found. • The feature s that ca n be adjusted using Qui ck Menu are determined by the mode or a display style the camera is in . Using the Q uick Menu Press [Q.M ENU] when recording.

Basic - 52 - • When you co nnect the came ra to a TV , the vo lume of the TV sp eakers does not chan ge. Also, when connect ed, no sound is output f rom the camera s peakers. • Some subjec ts may appe ar differentl y from actu ality on the LCD monitor .

Basic - 58 - x [USB Mode] Select the USB comm unication system after or before connecting the camera to your PC or your printer with the USB connection cable (supplied). [ y ] ([Select on connect ion]) : Select either [ PC] or [PictBridge(PTP)] if you connected the camera to a PC or a printer supporting PictBridge.

- 63 - Recording Applicable modes: Using the Zoom Y ou can zoom in to make people and objects appear closer or zoom out to r ecord landscapes in wide angle. Setting the numbe r of pixels to 8 M or less will operate the Extra O ptical Zoom to take zoomed pictures wit hout affecting quality .
Recording - 64 - ∫ Screen display • When using the Z oom function, an estimate of the focus range will appear i n conjunction with th e zoom display bar . [Example: 0.3 m (0.98 ft.) – ¶ ] Note • The indic ated zoom magn ificatio n is an approxi mation.

- 67 - Recording Note • If you brin g the fla sh too close t o an object, the object may be dis t orte d or discoloured by th e heat or light ing from the flash. • Recording a subject fr om too close, or without suf f icient flash will not provi de t he app ropriate level of expos ure, and may result in a pic ture that is too white or dark.
Recording - 68 - Applicable modes: T aki ng Close-up Pictures ([ AF Macro]/[Macro Zoom]) This mode allows you to take c lose-up pictures of a subject, e.g. when taking pictures of flowers. Press 4 [ # ]. Press 3 / 4 to sele ct the item and then p ress [MENU/SET].
- 69 - Recording Applicable modes: T aki ng Pictures with the Self-tim er Press 2 [ ë ]. Press 3 / 4 to sele ct the item and then p ress [MENU/SET]. Note • When you pres s the shutt er button on c e full y , the subj ect is automat ically focused just before recording.
Recording - 70 - Applicable modes: Compensating the Exposure Use this function when you c annot achieve appropriate expos ure due to the difference in brightness between the su bject and the backgr ound. Note • EV is an abbrevia tion of [Exposure V alue], a unit indicating the amount of exposure.

Recording - 72 - Recording Mode: T aki ng picture by setting the ex posure manually (Manual Exposure M ode) Determine the exposu re by manually setting the aper ture value and the shutter speed. The Manual Exposure Assistance appears on the lower portion of t he screen to indicate the exposure.
- 73 - Recording Recording Mode: T ake the Out d oors Scene Expressivel y By setting the Recording Mode to [ ], [ ], [ ] or [ ] pictures can be taken more effectively matching the conditions such as spor t s, snow , beach & s norkeling. Note • T one of the colour of th e image may change when pictur e is t aken with unmatched usage.
Recording - 74 - This is optimal for taking pictures underwater and at the beach. Depth m eter will automatically operate. It can be a rough indication of how deep you hav e gone underwater . Press [MODE]. Press 3 / 4 / 2 / 1 to select [Beach & Sn orkeling], and then press [MENU/SET].
- 75 - Recording Note • Measured dep th may not be accurate when pressur e is applied to front or rear of this unit by pressin g with you r hands, etc. In such a case, it is recommend ed to perf orm [Depth indi cator] again when you get back to the surface.
Recording - 76 - This is optimal for taking pictures underwate r deeper than 12 m (40 feet) by the use of the marine case (DMW-MCFT3: optional). ¢ This camera has a waterproof/ dustproof f unction equivalent to “IP68” . It is possible t o take picture s in 12 m (40 feet) dept h for 60 minut es.
- 77 - Recording Recording Mode: Record pictures that lo ok like dioramas (Miniature Effect Mode) By creating areas that are blurred and areas that are not, the picture will look like that of a miniature model. Motion pict ures can also be recorded with diorama effects that appear to be played back in fast forward.
Recording - 78 - Recording Mode: T aki ng Pictures that Match the S cene Being Recorded (Scene Mode) When you select a Scene Mode t o match the su bject and recording situation, the camera sets the optimal exposure and hue to obtai n the desired picture.
- 79 - Recording When taking pictures of people outdoors during t he day , t his mode allows y ou to improve the appearance of the persons and mak e their skin tones look healthier . ∫ T echnique fo r Portrait M ode T o make this m ode more effective: 1 Press and hold down the zoom button as far as pos sible to T ele.
Recording - 80 - Pictures are recorded continuous ly while moving the camera horizontally or vertically , and are combined to make a single panorama picture. 1 Press 3 / 4 to select the record ing direction and th en press [MENU/SET]. 2 Af ter confirming the recording direction, press [MENU/SET ].
- 81 - Recording Note • The zoom posit ion is fixe d to Wide. • The focus , whit e ba lanc e, and exp osure are f ixed a t th e optim um va lues for the fir st pic ture . As a result, if t he focus or brightness change s subst antially du ring recording, the ent ire panorama picture may not be recorded at the suit able focus or brightn ess.
Recording - 82 - This allows you to take pictures of a person and the backg round with near real-life brightness. ∫ T echnique f or Ni ght Portrai t Mode • Use the flash. (Y ou can set to [ ‹ ].) • Ask the sub ject not t o move w hile t aking a pic ture.
- 83 - Recording This mode allows y ou to take pictures of food with a natural hue without being affected by the ambient light in restaurants etc. This takes pictures of a baby with a healthy complexion. When you us e the flash, the light from it is weaker t han usual.
Recording - 84 - Select this when you want to t ak e pictures of a pet such as a dog or a cat. Y ou can set your pet’s birthday and name. For information about [Age] or [Name], refer to [ Baby1]/[Baby2] on P83 . Select this when you want to t ak e pictures of sunset view .
- 85 - Recording Recording Mode: T aki ng 3D pictures (3D Photo Mode) Pictures are recorded continuously while m ovi ng the camera horizontally , two pictures selected automatically are combined to make a single 3D picture. T o view 3D pictures, a television that suppor ts 3D is required.
Recording - 86 - Applicable modes: Recording T aki ng a Picture with Face Re cognition Function Face Recognition is a function which finds a face resembling a registered face and prioritises focus and exposure automatically .
- 87 - Recording Y ou can register information such as names and birthdays for face images of up to 6 people. Registration can be facilitated by taking multiple face images of each p erson. (up to 3 pictures/registration) Select [Fac e Recog.] on the [Rec] m enu and then press [MENU/SET].
Recording - 88 - Select item to edit with 3 / 4 , and then press [MENU/SET]. • Y ou can register up t o 3 face images. • Exit th e menu afte r it is set. Item Description of s ettings [Name] It is possible t o register names. 1 Press 4 to select [SET] an d then press [ME NU/SET].
- 89 - Recording Y ou can modify the pictures or information of an already registered person. Y ou can also delete the information of the registered person. 1 Select [Face Recog.] from the [Rec] menu, and then press [MENU/SET ]. (P46) 2 Press 4 to select [MEMORY] and press [MENU/SET ].
Recording - 90 - Entering T ext It is possible to enter babies’ and pets’ names and the locations when recording. (Only alphabetical characters and symbols can be entered.) Displa y the entry screen. • Y ou can display th e entry screen via the following operat ions.
- 91 - Recording Using the [Rec] Menu For details on [Rec] m enu settings, refer to P46 . Applicable modes: This allows you to select the aspect ratio of the pictures to suit print ing or the playback method. Note • The ends of th e recorded pictures may be c ut at printin g s o chec k before print ing.
Recording - 92 - Applicable modes: Set the number of pixels. The higher the nu mbers of pixels, the finer the detail of the pictures will appear even when they are printed ont o large sheets. ¢ This item cannot be set in the Intelligent Auto Mode. Note • If y ou chang e the aspec t ratio , set the pictur e size again.
- 93 - Recording Applicable modes: Set the compression rate at which the pictures are to be stored. Note • The setting is fixed to [ › ] in [Handheld Night Sh ot] or [High Se ns.] in Scene Mode. • The following ic ons are displ ayed during the 3D rec ording.
Recording - 94 - Applicable modes: This allows the sens itivity to light (ISO sens itivity) to be set. Sett ing to a higher number enables pictures to be taken even in dark plac es without the resulting pictures coming out dark.
- 95 - Recording Applicable modes: In sunlight, under incandescent lights or in other such conditions where the colour of white takes on a reddish or bl uis h tinge, this it em adj usts to the colour of white which is closes t to what is seen by the eye i n accordance with the light source.
Recording - 96 - ∫ Auto White Balance Depending on the c onditions when pictures are taken, the pic tures may take on a re ddish or bluish tinge. Furthermore, when a multiple number of light sour ces are being used or there is nothing with a colour close to white, Auto White B alance may not function properly .
