Before Use - 8 - How to Use the T ouch Panel This touch panel is a type that detects pressure. Note • If you use a co mmerc ially available liquid cryst a l protection s heet, please fol low the instr uc tions that accomp any the sheet. (Some liquid crystal pro tection sheets may impair visibility or op erability .

Preparation - 10 - ∫ About the [CH ARGE] indi cator The [CHARGE] indicator tu rns on: The [CHARGE] indicator A is turned on during charging. The [CHARGE] indicator tu rns off: The [CHARGE] indicator A will turn of f once the charging has completed without any problem.
- 11 - Preparation ∫ Battery indication The battery indication is displayed on the LCD monitor . • The indic ati on turns red and blink s if the remaining bat tery power is exhaust ed. Recharge the battery or rep lace it with a fully cha rged battery .
Preparation - 12 - Note • The operating times and number of recordable pic tures will differ according to the environme nt and the operating conditions. For example , in the fo llowing cases, t he operati ng times short en and the n umber of reco rdab le pictures is redu ced.
- 13 - Preparation Inserting and Removin g the Card (optiona l)/the Battery • Check that t his unit is turned off. • We rec ommend using a Panasonic card. Slide t he card/battery door to ope n it. • Always use g enuine Panasonic batteries. • If you use othe r batteries, we cannot guarantee the quality of this product.
Preparation - 14 - The AC Adapto r (optional) can onl y be used with the designated P anasonic DC Cou pler (optional). The AC adapt or (optional) cannot be used by itsel f. 1 Open the card/battery door . 2 Insert the DC coupler , being careful of t he direction.
- 15 - Preparation About the Built-in Memory /the Card • Y ou can copy the r eco r ded pictures t o a ca rd. (P100) • Memory size: Approx. 70 MB • The access time f or the built-in memory may be longe r than the access t ime for a card. The following operations c an be performed us ing this unit.
Preparation - 16 - The following cards which conform to t he SD video s tandard can be used with this unit. (These cards are indicated as card in the te x t.) ¢ SD S peed Class is the spee d standard regard ing continuous writ ing. Check via the label on the card, et c.
- 17 - Preparation ∫ About the display o f the number o f recordable pictures and avai lable recording time ∫ Number of recordable pictures • [ i 9999 9] is displa yed if there are more t han 100,000 pictures remaining.
Preparation - 18 - Setting Date/Time (Clock Set) • The clock is not set when the c amera is shipped. T urn the camera on. • If the l anguage se lect sc ree n is not displ ayed, pro ceed to ste p 4 . T ouch [Language Set]. Select the language, and the n touch [Set].

(P34) • It can be chan ged in steps 5 and 6 to set the clo ck. • The clock setting is maint ained for 3 months using the built-in clock battery even without the battery . (Leave the charged batte ry in the uni t for 24 hours t o charge the built-in battery .
Basic - 20 - Basic Selecting the [Rec] Mod e ∫ List of [Rec] M odes Note • When the mode has bee n switched from [Playb ack] Mode to [Rec] Mode, the previously set [Rec] Mode will be set. To u c h [ ] . • When oper at ing from the [Play back] Mode, touch [ ] to swit ch to [Rec] Mode.
- 21 - Basic [Rec] Mode: ñ T aki ng pictures using the autom atic function (Intelligent Auto Mode) The camera will set the most appropriate settings to match the sub ject and the recording conditions so we recom mend this mode f or beginners or those who want to leave the settings to the camera and take pictures easily .
Basic - 22 - • Be sure to att ach the strap wh en using the camera to ensure that yo u will not drop i t . • Hold the camer a gent ly with both hands , keep your arms still at your side and st and with your feet slightly ap ar t. • Be ca reful not to m ove t he came ra wh en you p ress t he shut ter button.
- 23 - Basic When the camera identifies the optimum scene, the i c on of the scene concerned is displayed in blue for 2 seconds , after wh ich its colour changes to the us ual red. • [ ¦ ] is set if non e of the s cenes are applicable, and the standard settings are set.
Basic - 24 - [Rec] Mode: · T aki ng pictures with your favou rite settings (Normal Picture M ode) The camera automatically sets the shutt e r speed and the aperture value according to the brightness of the subject. Y ou can take pictures with greater freedom by changing various settings in the [Rec] menu.
- 25 - Basic Focusing Aim the AF area at the subject, and t hen press the shutter button halfway . • AF area is displ ayed larger during the dig ital zoom or when it is dar k. ∫ About f ocus ran ge The focus range is displayed when operating the zoom.
Basic - 26 - ∫ When the subject is not in focus (such as when it is not in the centre of t he composition of the picture you want to take) 1 Aim the AF area at the subject, and then press the shutter butt on ha lf way to f ix the fo cus and exposure.

Basic - 30 - [Rec] Mode: n Motion Picture Mode Note • Use a car d with SD Sp eed Class with “ Class 6” o r higher when recording mo tion pictures .

Basic - 32 - [Playback] Mode: ¸ Deleting Pictures Once deleted, pictures cannot be recovered. • Pictures on the built -in memory or the card that are being played back wi ll be dele ted. T o delete a sing le picture Select the picture to be d eleted, and then touch [ ].
- 33 - Basic Note • Do not turn th e camera off while del eting. Use a batt ery with suff icient batt ery power or the AC adaptor (op tional) and DC coupler (opti onal). • Depending on th e number of picture s to be deleted, it may t ake some time to delet e them.
Basic - 34 - Setting the Menu The camera comes with menus that allow you to choose the settings for taking pictures and playing them back just as you like an d menus that enable you to have more fun with the camera and use it more easil y .

Basic - 36 - About the Setup Menu [Clock S et], [Sleep Mode] and [Auto Review] are impo rtant items. Check their se ttings before using them. For details on how to select the [Setu p] menu setti ngs, refer to P34 . • Refer to P18 for details. • Refer to P65 for details.

- 39 - Basic • Refer to P28 for informatio n abou t how to play back pictu res. • When you pla y back pictures on a PC, they canno t be displa yed in the rota ted direction un less the OS or software is comp atible with Exif. Exif is a file format for still pictures which allo ws recording info rmation etc.
Basic - 40 - • Calibration is not done if correct posit ion is not touched. T ouch the [ i ] mark again. • If you set a dif ferent langua ge by mistake, select [ ~ ] from the menu icons t o set the desired language.
- 41 - Recording Recording About the LCD Monitor T ouch [ ] to change. • During Playb ack Zoom, while play ing back motion pictures and du ring a slide show , you can only select “ Normal display D ” or “ No display F ” .
Recording - 42 - [Rec] Mode: ñ· ¿ T aki ng Pictures with Focus an d Exposure Set o n Subject (T ouch AF/AE) It is possible to set the focus and exposure to the subject specified on the touch p anel. • Perform the operation after cancelling the touch shutter function.
- 43 - Recording [Rec] Mode: ñ· ¿n T aki ng Pictures with the Zoom Y ou can zoom-in to make people and objects appear c loser or zoom- out to record landscapes in wide angle. T o make subjec ts appear ev en closer (maximum of 18 k ), se t the [P icture Siz e] to [1 0M] o r less.
Recording - 44 - • When using the Z oom function, an estimate of the focus range will appear i n conjunction with th e zoom display bar . [Example : 0.5 m (1.64 ft.) – ¶ ] ¢ The magnific at ion level differs depending on [Pict ure Size] setting.

Recording - 48 - Shortcut setting Shortcut setting allows you to quickly call up certain menu items. Up to 2 frequently-used menu items can be re gistered per [Rec]/[Playback ] Mode. • Read P66 for the [R ec ] Mode menu, and P90 for the [Play bac k] Mode menu.
- 49 - Recording [Rec] Mode: ¿ T aki ng pictures that match the s cene being recorded (Scene Mode) When you select a Scene Mode t o match the su bject and recording situation, the camera sets the optimal expos ure and hue to obtain the des ired picture.

- 51 - Recording When taking pictures o f people outdoors during the dayti me, this mode allows you to improve the appe arance and make their skin tones look healt hier . ∫ T echnique for Port rait Mode T o make this m ode more effective: 1 Rotate the zoom lever as far as possible to T ele.
Recording - 52 - Select this to take pictures of yo urself. ∫ T echnique for Self Portrait Mode • Press the shu tter butt on halfway to focus. The Sel f-timer indicator lights up when you are brought int o focus. Making sure you hold the camera still, press the shutter but t on fully to take the picture.

Recording - 54 - Set here when you want to take pictur es of sports scenes or other fast-m oving events. Note • Shutter speed may slow do wn up to 1 second. • This mode is suit able for takin g pictures of subj ec ts at distan ces of 5 m (16.4 feet) or more.
- 55 - Recording This mode allows y ou to take pictures of food with a natural hue without being affected by the ambient light in restaurants etc. Select this when y ou want to take pictures at a wedding recept ion, an indoor party etc. This allows you to take pictures of people and the background with near real-life brightness.
Recording - 56 - This takes pictures of a baby with a healthy complexion. When you us e the flash, the light from it is weaker t han usual. It is possible to set different birthdays and nam es for [Baby1] and [Baby2].
- 57 - Recording Select this when you want to t ake pictures of a pet such as a dog or a cat. Y ou can set your pet’s birthday and nam e. For information about [Age] or [Name], refer to [ Baby1] /[Baby 2] on P56 . Select this when y ou want to take pictures of a sunset view .
Recording - 58 - This is a c onvenient mode for shooting rapid move ment or a decisive moment. ∫ Picture Size Select the picture size of 3M (4: 3), 2.5M (3: 2) or 2M (1 6:9). • S till pictures are t aken continuously while the shut ter button is pressed f ully .

Recording - 62 - Record the ima ge with a frame around it . ∫ Setting the frame Select from 3 types of frames. Note • The colour of t he frame display ed on the screen and th e colour of the fr ame around the act ual image may dif f er , but this is not a malf un ction.

If you set the dep arture date or the travel destination of the vacation in advance, the number of days t hat have passed since the dep arture date is recorded when you t ake the picture.
Recording - 64 - Enter the loc ation. • For deta ils on ho w to ent er ch ara cters , ref er to “ Entering T ext ” on P8 4 . • Exit th e menu af ter it is set. ∫ Cancelling the travel date The travel date is autom atically cancelled if t he current date is aft e r the return date.

Recording - 66 - Using the [Rec] Mode Me nu For det ails on [ Rec] Mode menu setti ngs , refer to P34 . Set the flash to match the recording. Applicable modes: ñ· ¿ ¢ The flash is activated twice. The subject should not mov e until the second flash is activated.

The higher the nu mbers of pixels, the finer the detail of the pictures will appear even when they are printed ont o large sheets. Applicable modes: ñ· ¿ ¢ This item cannot be set in the Int ellig ent Auto Mode.

Recording - 72 - For det ails on [ Rec] Mode menu setti ngs , refer to P34 . This allows the Sensitivity to light (ISO sensit ivity) to be set. Setting to a higher figure enables pictures to be taken even in dark plac es without the resulting pictures coming out dark.

In sunlight, under incandescent lights or in other such conditions where the colour of white takes on a reddish or bl uish tinge, this item adj usts to the colour of whit e which is closest to what is seen by the eye i n accordance with the light source.
Recording - 74 - Set the White Balance value. Use to match t he condition when taking photographs. 1 T ouch [ Ò ]. 2 T ouch [ Ó ]. 3 Aim the camera at a sheet of white p aper etc., so that the frame in the centre is filled by the white object only and then touch [Set].

Recording - 76 - ∫ Sett ing up [ ] (A F T racking) T ouch the subjec t. • The AF area tur ns yellow and the subje ct is locke d. It will cont inuously adjust the fo cus and exposure automatically following th e movement of the subj ect. (Dynamic T racking) • Lock is cancelled when [ ] is touched.

Recording - 78 - For det ails on [ Rec] Mode menu setti ngs , refer to P34 . Use this function when you c annot achieve appropriate expos ure due to the difference in brightness between the subject and the background. Look at t he following examples. Applicable modes: ·¿ n 1 Adjust the exposure by dragging the slide bar .
- 79 - Recording For det ails on [ Rec] Mode menu setti ngs , refer to P34 . Contrast and expos ure will be adjusted automatically when there is a big difference in brightness between the background and subject, to bring the i mage close to real life.
Recording - 80 - For det ails on [ Rec] Mode menu setti ngs , refer to P34 . Pictures are taken continuously wh ile t he shutter button is pressed. Select the ones you really like from among the pictures you have taken. Applicable modes: ñ· ¿ [ON]/[OF F] Note • The burst speed becomes slow er halfway .

Using these modes, the pictures can be made shar per or softer , the colours of the pi ctures can be turned into sepia colours or o t her colour effects can be achieved. Recording - 82 - For det ails on [ Rec] Mode menu setti ngs , refer to P34 . AF assist lamp will illuminate the subject when the shutter button is pr essed half-way making it easier for the camera to focus when recording in l ow light condit ions . (Larger AF area is displayed depending on the recording conditi o ns.

Recording - 84 - Entering T ext It is possible to enter babies’ and pets’ names and the names of travel destinations when recording. (Only alphabet ical characters and symbols can be entered.) Y ou can use the stylus pen (supplied) if it is hard to operate with your fingers.

Playback/Editing - 86 - Y ou can play back t he pictures you have taken in synchronisati on with music, and you can do this in sequence while l e aving a fixed interval between each of the pictures.
- 87 - Playback/Editing ∫ Changing the slide sh ow settings Y ou can change the settings for Slide Show Playback by selecting [Effect] or [Setup] on the slide show menu screen. [Effect] This allows you to select the screen ef fects or music effects when switching from one picture to the n ext.
Playback/Editing - 88 - The images s orted into the category or images s et as favourite are play ed back. ∫ About the categories to be sorted It will be sorted as following when [Category Selection] is set.
- 89 - Playback/Editing Y ou can display pictures by rec ording date. Note • The recor ding date o f the pict ure selected in the pl ayback scre en becomes t he date s elected when the calendar screen is first di sp layed.
Playback/Editing - 90 - [Playback] Mode: ¸ Using the [Playback] M ode Menu Y ou can set up pictures to be uploaded to im age sharing sites and perform editing like cropping recorded pictures, as well as set up the protection of recorded images, etc. • With [T ext S t amp], [Res ize] o r [ Crop ping], a n ew e dited pict ure is cre ated.
- 91 - Playback/Editing ∫ Upload to the image sharing sites An upload tool built - in to the camera “LUMIX Image Uploader” is automatically copied to the card when you setup [Upload Set]. Perform the upload operation after connecting the cam era to a P C (P101) .
Playback/Editing - 92 - Y ou can stamp the recording date/time, name, location or travel date onto the record ed pictures. Select [T ext St amp] on the [Play back] Mode me nu. (P34) T ouch [ ] ([Single]) or [ ] ([Multi]). T ouch [Set]. Select the item to st amp.
- 93 - Playback/Editing To u c h [ ] . To u c h [ O K ] . • Confirmati on screen is displa ye d. It is executed when [Y es] is selected. Exit th e menu af ter it is exec uted.
Playback/Editing - 94 - T o allow easy posting to web pages, att achment to email etc., picture size (number of pixels) is reduced. Select [R esize] on the [Pl ayback] Mo de menu. (P34) T ouch [ ] ([Single]) or [ ] ([Multi]). Note • Y ou can set up to 50 pictu res at on e time in [ Multi].
- 95 - Playback/Editing Y ou can enlarge and then clip the import ant part of the recorded picture. Select [Croppi ng] on the [Playbac k] Mode menu. (P34) Drag the scr e en horiz ont ally to selec t an ima ge, an d t hen tou ch [Set]. Select the part s to be cropped .
Playback/Editing - 96 - Y ou can do the following if a mark has been added to pictures and they have been set as favourites. • Play back onl y the pictures set as favouri tes. ([Favorit e] in [Filtering Play]) • Play back th e pictures set as fa vourites only as a Slide Show .
