En-12 Connections Connecting the AV Receiver Speaker Configurati on The following table indicates the cha nnels you should use depending o n the number of speakers that you have. No matter how many speakers you use, a powered subwoofer is recommended fo r a really powerful and solid bass.

If you use speakers with a lower impedance, and use the amplifier at high volume levels for a long period of time, the buil t-in amp protection circuit may be activated.

En-21 Turning On & Basic Operations Turning On/Off the AV Receiver Note • Before connecting the power cord, con nect all of your speakers and AV components. • Turning on the AV receiver ma y cause a momentary power surge that might interfere with other electrical equipment on the same circuit.
Turning On & Basic Operations En-22 When a new version of the firmware is available, the notifica tion window “ Firmware Update Available ” pops up. This notificati on only appears when the AV receiver is connected to the Internet ( ➔ pages 16 , 27 ).

Playback En-45 Note *1 (North American and Taiwanese m odels) This listening mode is not available. *2 Pure Audio cannot be selected when Zone 2 is active. Besides, if you activate Zone 2 while Pure Audio is selected, the listening mode will automatically switch to Direct.
Playback En-46 You can adj ust the bri ghtness of the AV receive r’s display. When you connect an u -capable Onkyo component, you must config ure the input display so that u can work properly. This setting can be done only from the front panel. You can temporari ly mute the output of the AV receiver.

The audio return channel (ARC) function allows an ARC capable TV to send the audio stream to HD MI OUT MAIN of the AV receiver.
