16 Selecting the track to play using the number buttons Press the number button on the r emote controller to select the track you want to play . 19 Before Using Connections Other Information Operations The following operation is possible using either of the following r emote controllers only: RC-409MD (supplied) RC-398S (supplied with the A-905X amplifier) Repeatedly playing all tracks of an MD Press the REPEA T button on the remote controller just once.
20 T o stop A-B Repeat • Press the A-B or REPEA T button when a section is in Repeat play . The A-B Repeat mode is now canceled. • Press the e button when a section is in Repeat play . The A-B Repeat mode is canceled and play of the current track stops.
21 Before Using Connections Other Information Operations • Using the Memory function, you can select your favorite tracks (up to 25 tracks) on an MD and arrange them in the desired or der . 1 When the MD recor der is stopped, press the MEMOR Y button (RC-409MD).

23 Before Using Connections Other Information Operations CD-dubbing (System operation) CD-dubbing (System operation) Setting the CD dubbing mode Y ou can set either "Album" or "Fadeout" CD dubbing mode. In the Album CD dubbing mode, the track being recor ded will be discarded if the end of MD is reached during r ecording.
24 5 Press the CD DUBBING button on the MD-105X The CD player automatically searches for the disc's peak level, while the MD-105X sets the optimum peak level and then enters the recor ding standby mode. The MD-105X starts digital recor ding the whole disc as soon as the disc's first track starts playing.
25 Before Using Connections Other Information Operations Analog recor ding 1 Press the ST ANDBY/ON button. The ST ANDBY indicator goes out. 2 Load a recor dable MD. T o record by erasing all of the existing tracks on a prer ecorded MD Erase all the tracks before you start recor ding (see page 37).
26 Analog recor ding (continued) 4 Press the o REC button. The MD recor der is now in the recor ding standby mode. • When your MD-105X is configured with C-705X and K-505X, start playing the CD or tape before pr essing the REC button in step 4. . 5 Using the AMCS knob, adjust the recor ding level.
27 Before Using Connections Other Information Operations Since the interval between tracks is detected based on the sound level, some tracks may not be numbered corr ectly in the following cases: • Recorded condition of the cassette tape is bad (noise between tracks).
28 Digital r ecording Digital recor ding refers to recor ding where an optical digital cable is used for inputting signals fr om the recor ding source. This MD recor der contains a digital input signal sampling frequency rate converter which converts the sampling frequency of digital input signals to 44.

31 Before Using Connections Other Information Operations Signal Synchr o recor ding Even if your r ecording source is not Onkyo z -compatible, you can perfor m synchronized recor ding. 1 Use the INPUT selector to select MO, ST , D1, or D2, according to the connected device.
32 CD-synchro r ecording When your MD recor der is configured into a system with Onkyo Separate Collection series components (A-905X and C-705X), the operation of the MD recor der can be synchronized with that of the CD player . 1 Set the MD recor der to the recor ding standby mode.

34 Synchro-r ecording fr om MD to cassette deck When the MD-105X is configured into a system with Onkyo Separate Collection series components (A-905X and K-505X), synchronized r ecording from the MD r ecorder to the cassette tape deck is possible.
35 Before Using Connections Other Information Operations Timer operation When your MD recor der is configured into a system with Onkyo Separate Collection series components (A-905X and T -405X), you can recor d the desired br oadcasting programs or play your favorite MD at a specified time using the tuner's timer .
36 Checking the contents of recor ding • If you have not operated the unit since stopping a recording, the track to be played will flash in the music calendar . Press the n button to start playing the flashing track. • T o playback from the beginning of the MD, immediately after recor ding is stopped, press the e button again.

38 Editing the contents of an MD (continued) Dividing a track The following operation is possible during the playback is ongoing or paused. 1 Pr ess the EDIT/NO button several times until "Divide?" appears in the display . Fine adjust the point wher e you wish to divide the track.
39 Before Using Connections Other Information Operations Combining tracks Y ou can combine two adjacent tracks into one. Y ou cannot, however , combine the two tracks if the one of which is recor ded in the MO (monaural) mode and the other in the ST (stereo), Digital In1, or Digital In2 mode.

Message Meaning Blank Disc A new recordable MD or a r ecordable MD without disc or track names is inserted. Cannot Copy An attempt was made to make a second copy from a digitally dubbed MD (see "Rules for Digital Recording" on page 48).

48 Rule 2 Y ou can recor d the digital input signal of a digital satellite broadcast onto a r ecor dable MD via the digital input terminals on MD recor der which is capable of handling a sampling frequency of 32 kHz or 48 kHz.
49 Before Using Connections Other Information Operations T r oubleshooting If you encounter a difficulty while using your unit, use this tr oubleshooting guide as an aid to remedy the pr oblem. Because the unit contains a microcomputer to pr ovide advanced functions, it may malfunction due to external noise or static electricity .
50 Symptom The disc name or track name cannot be entered. System function cannot be used. Remedy • Close the recor d-protect hole (See page 36). • Replace it with a recordable disc. • Check all cable connections. The system functions cannot be used even if remote contr ol ( z ) cables are connected.
51 Before Using Connections Other Information Operations Precautions for handling the MiniDisc (MD) The MD is housed in a cartridge, so you can handle it without worrying about dust and fingerprints. Even so, a dirty or warped cartridge may cause malfunction.
