3 Precautions 1. Recording Copyright —Unless it’ s for personal use only , recording cop yrighted materia l is illegal without the permission of the copyright holder . 2. A C Fuse —The AC fuse inside the unit is not user - serviceable. If you cannot turn on the unit, contact your Onkyo dealer .
4 Precautions —Continued • Do not use this unit when there’ s the possibility of moisture condensatio n occurring. Doing so may damage your discs a nd certain parts inside this unit. If condensation does occur , unplug the power co rd and leav e the unit for two to three hours in the room temperature.

12 Disc Notes Precautions f or Playbac k Compact discs (CDs) with the following logo on the label surface can be used. Do not use discs designed for purposes other than audio, such as CD-R OMs for PC use. Abnormal noise could damage the speakers or amplifier .
13 Disc Notes —Contin ued Handling Discs Hold discs by the edge, or b y the center hole and edge. A void touching the playback surface (surf ace with nothing printed on it). Do not attach pap e r or sticke rs, or write on the playback or label surface of the disc.
14 Connecting Antennas This section explains how to connect the supplied indoor FM antenna a nd AM loop antenna. The CD receiv er won’t pick up any radio signals without an antenna connected, so you must conne ct the antenna to use the tuner .
15 Connecting Speaker s Connecting Y our Speaker s • Connect the right speaker to the CD receiver’ s right (R) SPEAKERS terminals. Conne ct the left speaker to the left (L) SPEAKERS terminals. • Connect the positiv e (+) term inal on each speaker to the corresponding positiv e (+) terminal on the CD recei ver.
16 Connecting Other Components —Continued The follow ing diagram sho ws how to connect an opt ional Onkyo RI Dock (Remote Interacti ve Dock). What can you do with u ? • Connect ing an Onkyo RI Dock to the CD recei ver with an u cable allows you to control the RI Dock with the CD recei ver’ s remote controller .
17 Basic Operations T o turn on the CD receiv er, press the On/Standby [ 8 ] button on the remote controller . Press the On/Standby [ 8 ] button again to set the CD recei ver to Standby . Y ou can also use the [ 8 ON/ST ANDBY] button on the CD receiv er.
18 Basic Oper ations —Continued Y ou can adjust the brightness of the CD receiv er’ s display . T urn down the v olume, then connect your stereo headphones to the Phones minijack.
19 Pla ying CDs Selecti ng T racks T o retur n to the beginning of the track currently playing, press the Pr evious [ 7 ] b u tton. Press the Pr evious [ 7 ] button r epeatedly to select earlier tracks. • While playback is stopped, pressing the Pre vious [ 7 ] b utton will select the previous track.
20 Playing CDs —Contin ued Selecting Files in All Folder Mode This mode can only be used while playback is stopped. Tip : • Y ou can also use the Stop [ 2 ] button (press and hold) and [MENU/ENTER] jog di al on the CD rece iv er. Note: • The behavior of Stop [ 2 ] on the CD recei ver can be set from “ST OP KEY” (see page 22).
21 Playing CDs —Contin ued W ith memory playback, you can create a playlist of up to 25 tracks. This mode can only be used while playback is stopped. Selecting Other T racks During Memory Playbac k T o select other pl aylist tracks during memory playback, use the remote controlle r’ s Previous and Ne xt [ 7 ]/[ 6 ] buttons.
22 Playing CDs —Contin ued W ith the MP3/WMA preferences, you can change the way MP3/WMA f ile informat ion is displayed and the way MP3/WMA CDs are played. This mode can only be used while playback is stopped. Tip : • T o cancel the procedure at any point, press the [MENU] button.
23 Using USB interface/Netw ork Ser vice T o start playback: Press the Play [ 1 ] button. T o stop playbac k: Press the Stop [ 2 ] button. T o paus e playback: Press the P ause [ 3 ] button. The P ause 3 icon appear s. T o resume playback , pres s the Pause [ 3 ] button again.
24 Using USB interface/Network Service —Continued This section describes icons that appear on the CD receiv er’ s display dur ing media playback. This section explains ho w to play music files on a USB flash driv e. Connect a USB flash dri ve as sho wn belo w .
25 Using USB interface/ Network Service —Continued • Do not connect the CD receiv er’s USB port to a USB port on your computer . Music on your computer cannot be played through the CD recei ver in this way . • Operation with all USB fl ash driv es including the ability to power them is not guaran teed.
26 Using USB interface/Network Service —Continued Internet radio URLs in the follo wing formats are supported: PLS, M3U, and podcast (RSS). Ho wever , depending on the type of data or audio format used by the Internet radio station, you ma y not be able to listen to some stations.
27 Using USB interface/ Network Service —Continued Windows Media Pla yer 11 Setup This section explai ns ho w to configure W indows Media Player 11 so that the CD receiver can play the music files stored on your computer .

29 iP od / iPhone Pla yback Compatible iPod/iPhone models Made for: iPod touch (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation), iPod classic, iPod nano (2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th generation), iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPhone Note: • With the follo wing iPod/iPhone, the charging mode does not work when it is connected in standb y mode.
30 iP od / iPhone Playbac k —Continued Selecting T racks Press the Pre vious/Next [ 7 ]/[ 6 ] b uttons to select the pre vious or next track. Tip : • For the basic play mode, re fer to “Playing Music Files on a USB Flash Dri ve” (see page 24).
31 Listening to the Radio T uning into weak ster eo FM stations If the signal from a stereo FM stat ion is weak, it may be impossible to get good reception.
32 Listening to the Radio —Continued W ith the Preset Write function, you can manually preset indi vidual AM and FM radio stations. You can store a combination of up to 40 of your favorite AM/FM radio stations as presets.
33 Listening to the Radio —Continued W ith the Preset Copy function, you can organize your presets in the order you want. When you copy a preset, its name is also copied. Tip: • If you fav orite station is stored in preset #5 and you want to make it preset #1, copy preset #5 to preset #1.
34 Listening to the Radio —Continued Y ou can name presets for easy identificatio n. The preset name may contain of up to 15 or 10 characters. Note: • The number of cha racters on massage area depends on country . • The following table sho ws av ailable characters.
35 Custom Setup The common setti ng for each input selector is e xplained below . Go through the following steps for setup. Tip: • Y ou can also use the [ME NU/ENTER] jog dial on the CD receiv er.
36 Custom Setup —Continued Net Setting If your router’ s DHCP server is enabled, you don’t need to change any of these setti ngs, as the CD receiv er is set to use DHCP to conf igure itself automatic ally by def ault (i.e., DHCP is set to “Enable” ).
37 Firmware Update T o update the firmware of the CD recei ver, you can choose from the follo wing two methods: CR via network, or CR via USB storage. Choose the one that best suits your en vironment. Before proceeding with the update, please read the corresponding e xplanations carefully .

39 Firmware Update —Continued The CD receiv er allows you to update the f irmware using a USB flash dri ve. Note: • Never unplug or turn of f the CD receiver during the update process. • Never plug or unplug a USB flash dri ve during the update process.

41 T r oubleshooting If you ha ve an y trouble using the CD receiv er, look for a solution in this section. Can’t turn on the CD r eceiver. • Make sure that the po wer cord is properly plugged into the w all outlet (see page 16). • Unplug the power cord from the wa ll outlet, wait 5 seconds or more, then plug it in again.
42 T roubleshooting —Continued Playbac k jumps. • The CD receiver is being subjec ted to vibration or the disc is scratched or dirt y (see page 12). Can’t add tr acks to the play list for memory playbac k. • Make sure there’ s a disc in the CD receiv er.
43 T roubl eshooting —Continued Can’t access the music files on a USB flash drive. • If the messa ge “No Storage” or “No It em” appears , make sure that the USB flash dri ve is connected correctl y and that the USB flash dri ve is one that is supported (see page 24).
44 Netw ork/USB Features The follow ing diagram sho ws how you can conn ect the CD receiv er to your home netw ork. In this example, it’ s connected to a LAN port on a router , which has a 4-port 100Base-TX switch built-in. ■ Ethernet Netw ork For the best resu lts, a 100B ase-TX switched Ethernet network is recommended.
