1 Thank you for pur chasing a W T -3 or WT-3A wir eless transmitter for compatible Nik on digital cameras . The W T -3 is for use in the country of sale, the countries of the European Union (EU) and European F ree T rade Association (EFT A), Thailand, Japan, and Hong Kong.
2 Supported Modes The W T -3 connec ts the camera t o wireless and Ethernet networks. The camera can then be controlled remot ely from a computer or photographs transmitt ed from the camera to an ftp ser ver or printer .
3 Sy stem Requirements Before using the W T -3 or WT-3 Setup Utility CD , confi rm that your system meets the f ollowing requir ements: Camera • Model : Nikon D200 digital single-lens refl ex camera • Firmware : A and B version 2.
4 Connector cover When using the W A-E1, remove the antenna connector cap ( 햲 ) and connect the antenna as shown at right ( 햳 ). T he W A-E1 Extended Range Antenna ( Av ailable Separately) The optional W A-E1 ex tended range antenna with tripod mount can be used to extend the range of wireless transmit- ters.
The W T -3 Controls The W T -3 is equipped with a shutter-release button, AF-ON button, and command dials for ease of use when taking photographs in tall (portrait) orientation. The shut- te r-r elease button and command dials per f orm the same functions as the match- ing controls on the camera body; for more information, see the camera manual.
6 Setup F ollow the steps below to prepar e the W T -3 for use: Update the camera fi rmware : The WT-3 is supported from camera fi rmware A version 2.00 and B v ersion 2.00. Users of earlier versions will need to update the camera fi rmwar e as described in the fi rmware update manual on the supplied W T -3 Setup Utility CD.
7 Installing the WT -3 Setup Utility The W T -3 Setup Utilit y is used to copy comput er and printer profi les to the camera. The W T -3 Setup Utilit y is requir ed when confi gur ing the camera f or connection to a computer in transfer , PC, and print modes.
8 5 Click Ne xt . 6 A license ag reement will be displayed . After read- ing the agreement, select I acc ept the terms in the license agreement and click Next to accept and proceed with installation. 7 The default install location is displa yed. Click Ne xt to install the software to this folder .
9 Mac OS X V ersion 10.3 or Later 1 Start the computer and log in to an account with administrator privileges. 2 I nsert the supplied installer CD in a CD-ROM dr ive . D ouble- click the installer CD icon on the desktop , and then double- click the We lcome icon.
10 7 Click Install . 9 Click OK and remov e the W T -3 Setup Utilit y CD from the CD-ROM drive. If prompted to restart the computer , follow the on-screen instructions. 8 Click Quit . Installing PictureProject I nstall PictureP roject befor e installing the W T -3 Setup U tility .
11 Cop ying Netw ork Profi les to the Camera Pr ofi les for network computers, ftp ser vers, and printers can be copied to the cam- era using the W T -3 Setup Utilit y . The W T -3 Setup Utility is required for connection to a computer in transfer , PC, and print modes.
12 3 Tu rn the camera on. 4 Tu rn the computer on and star t the W T -3 Setup Utility. • W indows : Double- click the WT -3 Setup Utility icon on the desktop • Macintosh : Click the WT -3 Setup Utility icon in the Dock. The dialog shown at right will be displayed; click Next .
13 Help Click the Help button for online help . T he “Select Ac tion ” Dialog The other options in the “Select Action” dialog are described below. Note that the camera need not be connected to a computer to choose a printer or change the upload folder .
14 8 Choose from the following options . • Automatic setup (recommended) : If more than one network adapter is available, choose an adapter from the pull-down menu (if E thernet only is selected in Step 7, the menu will list Ethernet adapters only).
15 A d-hoc Wir eless Netw orks A d-hoc mode uses IP addresses beginning with 169.254. If the computer later becomes part of an infrastructure network , it must be r econfi gured for automatic IP addressing and the camera wireless profi le modifi ed to refl ect the new settings.
16 MAC A ddress Filtering If the network using MAC address fi ltering, the fi lter must be supplied with the MAC addr ess of the W T -3. Af ter attaching the W T -3 to the camera, choose Fi rm ware v ersion > MA C address from the camera setup menu and note the wir eless and Ethernet MAC addresses .
17 Creating a Printer Pr ofi le The default printer for computer pr ofi les ( 13) is the syst em printer for the host computer . T o choose a diff erent printer , star t the WT-3 Setup Utility as d.
18 Connecting the WT -3 2 Remove the power connector cover fr om the WT -3 and attach it to the camera strap or stor e it in a safe place. Be sur e to replace the pow er con- nector cover when the W T -3 is not in use. 4 I nsert the WT-3 int o the camera battery chamber as shown.
19 PB-6 B ello ws A PK-13 auto-extension ring and a PB-6D spacer are required when using PB-6 bellows with the W T -3. Disconnecting the WT -3 To disconnect the WT-3: 1 Rotate the W T -3 control lock to the L position and turn the camera off . 2 Disconnect the USB cable.
20 3 I nsert the batter y as shown on the inside of the battery chamber cover. The batter y latch will slide aside during inser tion and pop up to lock the bat - te ry in place when fully inserted. Inserting the Batter y To power the camera when the W T -3 is in place, inser t the camera battery into the WT -3 battery chamber .
21 Uploading Images: T ransfer Mode Choose transfer mode to upload photog raphs to a computer or ftp server. The principal steps are: Upload images ...
22 Vie wing Profi le Information Pr ess the camera button to view information on the selected profi le. 5 A list of available connection profi les will be dis- played. P ress the multi selector up or down to highlight the desired profi le and press to the right to select.
23 During Upload Do not remove the memory card or disconnect the Ethernet cable during upload. File Names If the destination folder on an ftp server contains fi les with the same names as images select- ed for upload, the fi les on the ser ver will be replac ed by the images uploaded from the cam- era.
24 Interrupting T ransmission To cancel transmission of images marked with a white “send” icon or gr een “ send- ing” icon, select the images dur ing pla yback and press the center of the multi se- lector while pressing the button. The icon will be removed.
25 Network Status The status of the link between the ser ver and the W T -3 is shown by the status LEDs and by the display in the top level of the wir eless transmitter menu.
26 Controlling the Camera: PC Mode In PC mode, a camera equipped with a W T -3 can be controlled over a wir eless net- wo rk fr om a computer running Nikon Capture 4 version 4.4 or later (available sepa- rately) and photographs sav ed directly to the computer hard disk inst ead of the camera memor y car d.

28 Co ntr olling the Camera Using Nikon C apture 4 E thernet Networks: Do Not Disconnect the Ethernet Cable Do not disconnect the Ethernet cable while the camera is on. Wir eless Networks: L oss of Signal During T ransfer A loss of signal may interrupt the connection while pictures are being transferr ed to Nikon Capture 4 Camera Control .

30 Printing Pic tures: Print Mode Choose print mode to print JPEG pictures from the camera to a printer connected to a networ k comput er or to the optional PD-10 wireless printer adapter ( 32). RA W pic tures can not be printed dir ectly from the camera, but can be printed using Pic tureP roject or Nik on Captur e version 4.
31 5 A list of available printer profi les will be displayed . Pr ess the multi selector up or down to highlight the desired profi le, then pr ess to the right to se- lect and return to the top level of the wireless transmitter menu. 32 P rinting Pictures Using the PD-10 Wireless Printer A dapter The optional PD-10 wireless printer adapter allows photographs to be printed di- rec tly fr om the camera without cables or a computer . The principal steps for using the PD-10 are: Cr eate a profi le for the PD-10 .
33 5 Select P rinter registra tion . Note that printer reg istration will not be available if the camera al- r eady contains nine profi les; if necessar y , delete a profi le using the button. 7 A message will be displayed asking if you want to connect to the printer .
34 This section describes the settings available for the Wir eless transmitter option in the camera setup menu when the WT -3 is connected. Menu Guide Wir eless LAN Sy stem Tu rn the W T -3 on or off . Selec t Off to reduce the drain on the battery.
35 FTP Registration (f or Connection to ftp Ser vers Only) In transfer mode, ftp profi les can be created without using the W T -3 Setup Utility. See the Appendix for more inf ormation ( 48). Editing ftp Profi les To edit an ftp ser ver pr ofi le, highlight it in the pr ofi le list in transfer mode and press the button.
36 Wir eless Menu, P age 1/2 SSID : A BSS- or ESS-ID is required f or connection to a wireless LAN adapter or access point. T o change the BSS- or ESS-ID , highlight the current ID , press the multi selector to the right, and enter a new ID as described in the note on the previous page.

46 S ettings (T ransfer Mode Only) The following settings are a vailable in transfer mode: Auto S end Choose whether to upload photographs to the server as they are taken. Option Description Off (default) P hotos are not aut omatically uploaded as they are taken.
47 Send Folder All fi les in the selected folder (including those already marked as “ sent”) will be uploaded in ascending order by fi le number , beginning when the folder is selected . The folder itself will not be uploaded. This option is not available when the memor y card contains no folders .
48 Appendices Creating ftp Profi les Using the Camera Menus In transfer mode, the camera menus can be used to creat e ftp profi les in place of the W T -3 Setup Utilit y . Before creating an ftp profi le with the camera menus , set the camera USB option to PTP and connect the W T -3.
49 4 The registration dialog shown at right will be displayed. P ress the multi selector up or down to highlight an option, then press to the right to select. Select Done to proceed to Step 5 when settings are complete. Rename : The dialog shown at right will be dis- played.
50 5 If On is selected f or Wir eless transmitter > Wir eless LAN system , a confi r- mation dialog will be displayed. Choose fr om the following options: • Ye s : Open a connec tion to the new server and return to the top level of the wireless transmitter menu.
51 Tr oubleshooting Problem Solution “POWER” LED does not light. • Confi rm that batter y is inserted in WT -3 and is fully charged. • Reattach W T -3. • Inser t memory card (transfer and print modes only). • T urn camera on. • Pr ess shutter-release button halfwa y to activate ex- posure meters.
52 Glossary Ad-hoc : Devices in an ad-hoc wireless network communicate directly (“peer to peer”), without a wireless access point. AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) : An encr yption standard developed f or use by the American government. AES has been praised for combining strong encryption with rapid processing.
53 Infrastructure : Devices in an infrastruc ture network communicate via wir eless access points that may be connected to an Ethernet network , allowing wir eless and Ethernet devices to coexist on a single network . IP address : The address giv en to each node in a T CP/IP network .
54 SS-ID (Ser vice Set ID) : An SS-ID prev ents interference between devices in diff erent networks by allowing communication only between devices that share an SS-ID .
