7 Preparing for Shooting Preparing for Shooting • With the battery’s posi tive and negative termina ls oriented correctl y, move the orange batt ery latch ( 3 ), and fully insert the batte ry ( 4 ). • Slide the memory card in un til it clicks into place ( 5 ).
8 Preparing for Shooting 1 With the batter y installed, co nnect the ca m era to an electrical outlet. If a plug adapter* is inc luded with your camera, securely connect it to the Charging AC Adapte r. Once the two are conne cted, attempting to forcibly remove the plug adapter could damage th e product.
9 Preparing for Shooting B Notes About the USB Cable • Do not use a USB cable other than the UC -E21. Using a USB cable other than the UC-E21 could result in overheat ing, fire or electric shock. • Make sure that the plugs are proper ly oriented. Do n ot insert or re move the plugs at an angle when connecti ng or discon necting th em.
10 Preparing for Shooting When the camera is turne d on for the first time, th e language-selectio n screen and the date and tim e setting screen f or the camera cloc k are displaye d. 1 Press the power switch to turn on the ca m era. • The monitor turns on.
11 Preparing for Shooting 6 Set the date and time, and press the k button. • Use JK to select a field and then use HI to set the date and time. • Select the minute field and press the k button to confirm the setting. 7 When the confirmation dialog is displayed, use HI to select Yes and press the k butt on.

21 Shooting Features Shooting Features Used for general shooti ng. Settings can be adjusted to suit the s hooting conditions a nd the type of shot you want to capture. • You can change how the came ra selects t he area of the frame t o focus on by cha nging the AF area mode setting ( A 85).
22 Shooting Features When a scene is selecte d, camera settings are au tomatically opt imized for the selected scene . 1 The camera focuses at infinity. 2 The camera focuses on the area in the center of the frame. 3 Use of a tripod is reco mmended, because the shutter speed is slow.
23 Shooting Features Displaying a Description of Ea ch Scene Mode (Help Display) Select a scene and move the zoom c ontrol ( A 1) toward g ( j ) to view a description of that scene. To return to th e previous screen, move the zoom cont rol toward g ( j ) again.
24 Shooting Features • Press the d button, and select u Hand-held or w Tripod from Night landscape . • u Hand-held (default setting): -W h i l e t h e j icon on th e shooting s creen is d isplayed in gr een, press the shutter-release button all the way to ca pture a ser ies of imag es which are combined into a single image and saved.
25 Shooting Features • While the shutter-release button is held a ll the way down , the camera shoots up to about 7 images continuously at a rate of about 7.9 fps (when image mode is set to P ). • The frame rate for continuous s hooting may var y depending on the current im age mode setting, the memory card us ed, or shooting conditions.
26 Shooting Features • Macro mode ( A 45) is enabled and the camera au tomatically zooms to the closest position at whic h it can focus. • You can move th e focus area. Press the k button, use the multi selector HIJK to move the focus are a, and press the k button to apply the setting.
27 Shooting Features • When you point the camera at a dog or cat, the camera detects the pet’s face and focuses on it. By defa ult, the camera dete cts a dog or cat face and automatically releases the shutter (pe t portrait auto release). • On the screen di splayed when O Pet portrai t is selected, se lect U Single or V Continuous .
28 Shooting Features Shooting Time-lapse Movies The camera can automatically capture 300 st ill images at a specified interval to create time -lapse movi es ( e 1080/30p ) that are approximately 10 seconds long. 1 Suited for recordi ng the movement of stars.
29 Shooting Features 3 Stabilize the camera by usin g a tool such as a trip od. 4 Press the shutter-release button to capture the first image. • Set exposure compensation ( A 49) before releasing the shutter for the first im age. Exposure compensa tion cannot be cha nged after the first image is captured.

32 Shooting Features Playback with Easy Panor ama Switch to playback mode ( A 16), display an image captured using easy panorama in full- frame playback mode, and then press the k button to scroll the ima ge in the direction that was used when shooting.
33 Shooting Features Effects can be applied to images during shooting. 34 Shooting Features *C e r t a i n Movie options ( A 97) are not available. • The camera focuses on the area in the center of the fr ame. • When Selective color or Cross process is selected, use t he multi selec tor HI to select the desired color, and press the k button to apply the color.
35 Shooting Features You can take a picture with the glamour retou ch function to enhance human faces. 1 Press the multi selector K . 2 Apply an effect. • Use JK to select the desir ed effect. • Use HI to select the amount of effect. • You can simultaneously apply multiple effects.

37 Shooting Features Using Self-Collage The camera can capture a ser ies of 4 or 9 images at intervals and sa ve them as a one-f rame image (a collag e image). 1 Press the multi selector J to select n Self-Collage , and press the k button. • A confirmation dialog is displayed.
38 Shooting Features You can create a short movie ( e 1080/30p or S 1080/25p ) that is up to 30 seconds long by recording and auto matically combining multiple movie cl ips that are several seconds long. 1 Press the d (menu) button and configure the settings for recording movies.

40 Shooting Features C Pausing Movie Recording • A still image ( l 4608×2592 ) can be captured if you press the sh utter-release button on the s hooting screen w hile a movie is not being r ecorded. • You can pause movie re cording and play back images or en ter other shooting modes to take pictures.
41 Shooting Features You can select a flash mode to match the shooting conditions. 1 Press the multi selector H ( m ). 2 Select the desired flash mode ( A 42) and press the k button. • If the setting is not applied by pressing the k button within a few secon ds, the selection will be canceled.
42 Shooting Features Available Flash Modes C The Flash Mode Setting • The setting m ay not be available with some shooting modes ( A 50). • The setting applie d in A (auto) mode is saved in t he camera ’s memor y even aft er the camera is turned off.
43 Shooting Features The camera is equ ipped with a self-tim er that releases the shut ter 10 seconds or 2 seconds after you press the shutter-re lease button. Set Photo VR ( A 111) to Off in the setup menu when using a tripod to stabilize the camera during shooting.
44 Shooting Features 4 Press the shutter-release button the rest of the way down. • Countdown starts. The se lf-timer lamp flashes and then glows steadily about on e second before the shutter is released. • When the shutter is released, the self-timer is set to k .
45 Shooting Features Use macro mode when taking cl ose-up pictures. 1 Press the multi selector I ( p ). 2 Select o and press the k button. • If the setting is not applied by pressing the k button within a few secon ds, the selection will be canceled.

47 Shooting Features Brightness (Exposure Compensation) Adjust the ov erall brightn ess of the im age. • To bright en the imag e, set a pos itive (+) value. • To darken the image, set a negat ive (–) val ue. C Using the Histogram A histogram is a grap h showing the distri buti on of tones in the im age.
48 Shooting Features Vividness (Saturation Adjustment) Adjust the overa ll vividness of the image. • The overall image viv idness increases as th e slider is moved up. The overall image vividness decre ases as the slider is mov ed down. Hue (White Balance Adjustment) Adjust the overa ll hue of the image.
49 Shooting Features When the shooting mode is s et to scene mode, special effects mode or s hort movie show mode, you can adjust the brightness (ex posure compensa tion). 1 Press the multi selector K ( o ). 2 Select a compensation value and press the k button.

53 Shooting Features Using Face Detection In the following shooti ng modes, the camera uses face de tection to auto matically focus on human faces. • x (scene auto selec tor) mode ( A 23) • Portra.
54 Shooting Features Using Skin Softening When the shutter is released wh ile using one of th e shooting modes li sted below, the camera detects human faces and proces ses the image to soften facial skin tones (up to 3 faces). • Smart portrait mode ( A 35) - The skin softening level can be ad justed by the glamour retouch function.
55 Shooting Features Focus Lock Focus lock shooting is recommended when the camera does not activa te the focus area t hat contains the desired su bject. 1 Set AF area mode to Cen ter in A (auto) mode ( A 85). 2 Position the subjec t in the center of the frame and press the shutter-release button halfway.

58 Playback Features Playback Features Moving the z oom control to ward g ( i playback zoom) in full-frame playback mode ( A 16) zooms in on the image. • You can change the magnification ra te by moving the zoom control toward f ( h ) or g ( i ). • To view a different area of the image, press the multi se lector HIJK .
59 Playback Features Moving the z oom control to ward f ( h thumbnail playback) in full-frame playback mode ( A 16) displays images as thumbnails. • You can change the number of thum bnails displayed by moving the zoom control toward f ( h ) or g ( i ).
60 Playback Features Use the multi se lector HI to select a date and then press the k button to play bac k the images captur ed on the select ed date. • Functions in the playback menu ( A 91) can be used for t he images in t he selected shooting date (except Copy ).
61 Playback Features Viewing Imag es in a Se quence Images captured continuously or with the self-collage function are sa ved as a sequence. The first image of a sequence is us ed as the key picture to represent th e sequence when displayed in full-frame playback mode or thumbnail playback mode .
62 Playback Features Deleting Images in a Se quence When the l (delete) button is presse d for images in a sequen ce, the images that are deleted vary depending on how the sequences are displayed.
63 Playback Features Before Editing Images You can easi ly edit images on this camera. Edited copi es are save d as separate files. Edited copies are save d with the same shooting date and time as the original. C Restrictions on Image Editing • An image can be edited up to 1 0 times.

66 Playback Features Glamour Retouch: Enhancing H uman Faces 1 Use the multi selector HIJK to select the face that y ou want to retouch and press the k butt on. • When only one face is detected, proceed to step 2. 2 Use JK to select the effect, use HI to select the effect level, and press the k button.
67 Playback Features 4 Select Yes and press the k button. • An edited copy is created. B Notes About Glamour Retouch • One face at a time can be edited.
68 Playback Features Crop: Creat ing a Cropped Copy 1 Move the zoom control to enlarge the image ( A 58). 2 Adjust the image so that o nly the portion that you want to keep is displayed, and then press the d (menu) button. • Move the zoom control toward g ( i ) or f ( h ) to adjust the magnification rate.

72 Recording and Playing Back Movies If the shutter-release button is pressed all th e way while recording a movie, one frame is saved as a still image. Movie recording continues while the still image is being sa ved. • While Q is displayed in the monitor, still images can be captured.
73 Recording and Playing Back Movies To adjust the vol ume, move the z oom control while a movie is playing ( A 1). Playback controls are di splayed in the monitor. The operat ions de sc ribed below can be performed by using th e multi selector JK to select a control and th en pressing the k button.
74 Recording and Playing Back Movies When editing movies, use a su fficiently charged battery t o prevent the camera from turning off during editing. Wh en the battery level indicator is B , movie editing is not possible. Extracting Only the Desired Portion of a Movie The desired portion of a recorded movi e can be saved as a separate file.
75 Recording and Playing Back Movies 5 Use HI to select m (save) and press the k button. • Follow the instructions on the screen to save the movie. B Notes About Movie Editing • A movie that was created by editing cannot be trimmed again.
76 Using Menus Using Menus You can set the menus list ed below by pressing the d (menu) button. • A , x , y , X , W , u , F , n Shooting menu Available by pressing the d butt on when the shooting scre en is displayed. Allows you to cha nge image size and quality, continuous shooting settings, etc.
77 Using Menus 3 Select a menu icon and press the k button. • The menu options become selectable. 4 Select a menu option and press the k button. • Certain menu option s cannot be set depending on the curre nt shooting mode or the state of the camera.

79 Using Menus B Notes About Printing Images at 1 :1 Aspect Ratio Change the prin ter setting to “Border ” when printing images at a 1:1 aspect ratio. Some printers m ay not be able to print images at a 1:1 aspect ratio. B Notes About Image Mode This function may not b e available to use in combinati on with other functions ( A 56).
80 Using Menus • See “Image Mode (Image Size and Quality)” ( A 78) for information about Image mode . White Balance (Adjusting Hue) Adjust white balance to suit the light source or weather conditions in order to make the col ors in images match what you see with you r eyes.
81 Using Menus Using Preset Manual Use the procedure below to m easure the white balanc e value under the lighting used during shooting. 1 Place a white or gray reference object under the lighting that will be used during shooting. 2 Use the multi selector HI to select Preset manual in the White balance menu, and press the k button.

83 Using Menus B Notes About Continuous Shooting • Focus, exposure , and white balance ar e fixed at the values dete rmined with the first image in each ser ies. • It may take some time to sa ve the imag es after sh ooting. • When ISO sensitivity increas es, noise may appear in captured images.
84 Using Menus ISO Sensitivity A higher ISO sensitivity allows darker su bjects to be captured. Additionally, even with subjects of similar brightness, pic tures can be taken at faster shu tter speeds, and blurring cause d by camera shake and subject movement c an be reduced.
