When the monitor is turned o ff, press the power switch o r the shutter button to turn it o n ( A 105).

23 Step 2 Frame a Picture Basic Photography and Playback: A uto Mode Digita l Zoom When the camera is zoomed in to the maximum magnification (4×), holding down g ( i ) triggers digital zoom. The subject is magnified up to 4×, for a to tal magnification of 16×.

28 Basic Photography and Playback: A uto Mode Us in g t h e Fla s h The flas h has a range of 0.5-6.5 m (1.6-21. 3 ft.) when the came ra is zoo med out all the way. With maxi mum optical zoom applied, the range is 0.5- 3.0 m (1.6-9 .8 ft.) (whe n IS O sens itiv ity is set to Auto ).
29 Using the Flash Basic Photography and Playback: A uto Mode B The W (Off) Indicator Turn vibration re duction ( A 103) off when using a tripod. Note the followin g when lighting is poor and the flas h is off ( W ): • Place the camer a on a flat, level su rface or use a tripod (recom mended).
30 Basic Photography and Playback: A uto Mode T a king Pic tures with the Self-timer The camera is equipped with a ten-second and two-second timer for self-portraits. When using the s elf-timer, use of a tripod is reco mmended. Turn vibration red uc tio n ( A 103) off when using a tripod.
31 Basic Photography and Playback: A uto Mode Macro Mode Macro mo de i s used f o r taking pictures of obje cts as close as 3 cm (1.2 i n.). Note that the flash may be unable to lig ht entire subject at distances of les s than 50 cm (19. 7 in. ). 1 Press p (macro mod e).
32 Basic Photography and Playback: A uto Mode Exposure Compen sation Exposure compensation is used to alter exposure from the value sugges ted by the camera to make pictures brighte r or darker. 1 Press t he rotary multi selector o (exposure compens atio n).
