11 Basic Operations Introduction En_01 The Rotary Multi Selector The rotary multi selector is made up of the rotating ring and the d button. When selecting menus or pictures, you can either press the rotating ring up, down, left, or right, or rotate it.

14 First Steps En_01 First Steps Inserting the Battery The camera uses a Rechargeable Li-io n Battery EN-EL8 (supplied). Ch arge the battery before first use or when the battery is running low ( c 16). 1 Open the battery-chamber/memor y card slot cover.
15 Inserting the Battery First Steps En_01 Removing the Battery Turn the camera off befo re removing the battery. To eject the battery, open the battery-chamber/ memory card slot cover a nd slide the battery latch in the direction shown 1 . The battery can then be removed by hand 2 .
16 First Steps En_01 Charging the Battery Insert the battery and charge it with the AC Adapter EH-64 (supplied) before first use or when the battery is running low. 1 Connect the power ca ble and AC adapter 1 . 2 Turn of f the came ra. If the power-on l amp (green) is lit , press the power switch to turn of f the camera.

Disconnect the AC adap ter from the c amera’s multi co nnector. Be sure to unplug the power cable fr om the power outlet.
18 First Steps En_01 Setting Display Langua ge, Date, and Time A language-selection di alog is displaye d the first time the camera is turned on. 1 Press the power switch to turn on the camera. The power-o n lamp will l ight and the monitor will turn on.

25 Step 2 Frame a Picture Basic Photography and Playback: Auto Mode En_01 j Digital Zoom Unlike optical zoom, data from the camera’s imag e se nsor are processed digitally with digital zoom. Details visible at maximum optical zo om are simply enlarged, producing a slig htly “grainy” image.
