6 Preparing for Shooting Preparing for Shooting Attach the lens cap to the cam era strap, and then at tach the strap to the camera. B Lens Cap When the cam era is not in use, pr otec t the lens by attaching the lens cap. Attaching the Camera Strap and Lens Cap Attach them at two places.
7 Preparing for Shooting • Hold the camera upsi de down to prevent the batte ries from falling out, confirm that the positive (+ ) and negative (–) term inals of the batterie s are oriented corre ctly, and inse rt the batter ies. • Slide the memory card in until it clicks int o place ( 5 ).

9 Preparing for Shooting When the camera is turne d on for the first time, th e language-selectio n screen and the date and tim e setting screen f or the camera cloc k are displaye d. 1 Remove the lens cap, and then press the power switch to turn on the camera.
10 Preparing for Shooting 6 Set the date and time, and press the k button. • Use JK to select a field and then use HI to set the date and time. • Select the minute field and press the k button to confirm the setting. 7 When the confirmation dialog is displayed, use HI to select Yes and press the k butt on.

13 Basic Shooting and Playback Ope rations 3 Press the shutter-release button halfway. • When the subject is in focus, the focus area or focus indicator is displaye d in green. • When you are using digital zoom, the camera focuses in the center of the frame and the focus area is not displayed.

15 Basic Shooting and Playback Ope rations Using the Snap-back Zoom When the subject is lost at the telephoto zoom po sition, press the q (snap- back zoom) button to temporarily wide n the angl e of view so that you c an frame the subject more easily.
16 Basic Shooting and Playback Ope rations The Shutter-release Button The angle of the monitor can be lowered down to approx. 85° or raised upward to approx. 90°. This is conv enient when tak ing pictures with the camera held at high or low positions.

22 Shooting Features Shooting Features The camera auto matically reco gnizes th e shooting scen e when you fr ame a picture, making it easier to t ake pictures u sing settings tha t suit the s cene. When the camera auto matically recognizes the shooting scene, the shooting mode icon displayed on the shooting screen changes accordingly.

27 Shooting Features B Pet Portrait Auto Release • Press the multi sel ector J ( n ) to change the Pet portrait auto release setting. - Y : The camera detects a dog or cat face and automatically releases the shutter. - k : The camera does not release th e shutte r automatically, even if a dog or cat face is detected.
28 Shooting Features L Moon • You can adjust hue by using the multi selector HI . The hue setting is saved in the camer a’s memory even after the camera is tur ned off. • Adjust the brightne ss with exposure compensation ( A 47) according to shooting conditions such as the wax ing and wani ng of the moon and shoot ing requirem ents.
29 Shooting Features Shooting with Easy Panorama * The icon of th e last sc ene selected is displ ayed. 1 Select W Normal or X Wide as the shooting range and press the k button.
30 Shooting Features 4 Move the camera in one of the four directions until the guid e indicator reaches the end. • When the camera detect s which d irection it is moving in, shooti ng begin s. • Shooting ends when the camer a captures the specified shooti ng range.
31 Shooting Features Playback with Easy Panora ma Switch to playback mode ( A 17), display an image captured using easy panorama in full- frame playback mode, and then press the k button to scroll the image in the direction that was used when shooting.

33 Shooting Features • The camera focuses on the area in the center of the fr ame. • When Selective color or Cross process is selected, use t he multi selec tor HI to select the desired color, and press the k button to apply the color. To change the color selection, press the k button again.
34 Shooting Features You can take a picture with the glamou r retouch function to enha nce human faces. 1 Press the multi selector K . 2 Apply an effect. • Use JK to select the desir ed effect. • Use HI to select the amount of effect. • You can simultaneously apply multiple effects.
35 Shooting Features Using Smile Timer When you press the multi se lector J to select a Smile timer and press the k button, the camera au tomaticall y releases the shut ter whenever a s miling face is de tected. • Set the glamour retouch function before selecting smile timer ( A 34).
36 Shooting Features Using Self-Collage The camera can capture a se ries of four or nine images at intervals and sa ve them as a one- frame image (a collage image). 1 Press the multi selector J to select n Self-Collage , and press the k button. • A confirmation dialog is displayed.
37 Shooting Features B Notes About Self-Collage • If you press the shutter-release button before the came ra takes the specifi ed number of shots, shootin g is canceled and the collage i mage is not saved. The pictures that were take n before shooting was can celed are saved as in dividual images.
38 Shooting Features The camera create s a short movie that is up to 30 seconds long ( e 1080/ 30p or S 1080/25p ) by recording and automati cally combining multiple movie clips that are several seconds long. 1 Press the d (menu) button and configure the settings for recording movies.
39 Shooting Features 4 Save the short movie show. • The short mov ie show is sa ved when th e camera fini shes recording the specified number o f movie cli ps.
40 Shooting Features C Pausing Movie Recording • A still image ( l 4608×2592 ) can be captured if you press the sh utter-release button when the shooting standby screen is displaye d. • You can pause movie record ing and play back images or en ter other shooting modes to take pictures.
41 Shooting Features Used for general shooting. Settings can be adjusted to suit the shooting conditions and the type of shot you want to capture. • You can change how the camera sele cts the area of the frame to focus on by changing the AF area mode setting ( A 84).
42 Shooting Features Using the Creative Slider You can adjust the brightness (ex posure comp ensation), vividness , and hue when shooting. 1 Press the multi selector K . 2 Use JK to select an item. • F Hue : Adjust the hue (reddish/bluish ) of the entire image .
43 Shooting Features You can select a flash mode to match the shoot ing conditions. 1 Press the m (flash pop-up) button. • The flash pops up. • The flash does not fi re while it is lowered. W is displayed to indicate that the flash does not f ire.
44 Shooting Features C The Flash Lamp • The status of the fl ash can be confirmed by pressing the shutter-release button halfway. - On: The flash fires when you p ress the sh utter- release button all the way down. - Flashing: The flash is charging.
45 Shooting Features The camera is equ ipped with a self-tim er that releases the shut ter 10 seconds or 2 seconds after you pres s the shutter-release button. Set Photo VR ( A 110) to Off in the setup menu when using a tripod to stabilize the camera during shooting.
46 Shooting Features Use macro mode when taking cl ose-up pictures. 1 Press the multi selector I ( p ). 2 Select ON and press the k button. • If the setting is not app lied by pressing the k button within a few secon ds, the selection will be canceled.
47 Shooting Features You can adjust overall imag e brightness. 1 Press the multi selector K ( o ). 2 Select a compensation value and press the k button. • To brighten the imag e, set a positive (+) value. • To darken the imag e, set a negative (– ) value.

50 Shooting Features The focus area varie s depe nding on the shooting mode. Using Face Detection When the following shooting modes or settings are selected, the camer a uses face detectio n to automatically f ocus on human fa ces.
51 Shooting Features Using Skin Softening When the shutter is released wh ile using one of th e shooting modes list ed below, the camera detects human faces and proces ses the image to soften facial skin tones (up to three fac es). • Smart portrait mode ( A 34) - The amount of Skin softening effect can be adjusted.
52 Shooting Features Using Target Finding AF When AF area mode ( A 84) in A (auto) mode is s et to Target finding AF , the camera focuses in th e manner described below when you pre ss the shutter-rel ease button halfway: • The camera detects the main subject and focuses on it.

57 Playback Features Playback Features Moving the z oom control to ward g ( i playback zoom) in full-frame playback mode ( A 17) zooms in on the image. • You can change the magnification rate by moving the zoom control toward f ( h ) or g ( i ). • To view a different area of the image, press the multi se lector HIJK .
58 Playback Features Moving the z oom control to ward f ( h thumbnail playback) in full-frame playback mode ( A 17) displays images as thumbnails. • You can change the number of thum bnails displayed by moving the zoom control toward f ( h ) or g ( i ).
59 Playback Features Use the multi se lector HI to select a date and then press the k button to play bac k the images captur ed on the select ed date. • Functions in the playback menu ( A 90) can be used for t he images in t he selected shooting date (except Copy ).
60 Playback Features Viewing Imag es in a Se quence Images captured continuously or with th e self-collage function are saved as a sequence. The first image of a sequence is us ed as the key picture to represent th e sequence when displayed in full-frame playback mode or thumbnail playback mode .
61 Playback Features Deleting Images in a Se quence When the l (delete) button is presse d for images in a sequen ce, the images that are deleted vary depending on how the sequences are displayed. • When the key pic ture is displa yed: - Current image : All images in the displayed se quence are deleted.

66 Playback Features B Notes About Glamour Retouch • One face can be e dited at a tim e. To a pply glamour retouch to another face, edit the edited image again.

68 Recording and Playing Back Movies Recording and Playing Back Movies 1 Display the shooting screen. • Check the re maining amount of movie recording ti me. 2 Lower the flash ( A 11). • Recording movies while the flash is rais ed may cause the audio to be muffled.

70 Recording and Playing Back Movies Notes About Movie Recording B Notes About Saving Images or Movi es The indicato r showing th e number of ex posures re maining or the indicat or showing the remaining recordin g time flashes while images or movies are being saved.
71 Recording and Playing Back Movies If the shutter-release button is pressed all th e way while recording a movie, one frame is saved as a still image. Movie recording continues while the still image is being sa ved. • While y is displayed in the monitor, still images can be captured.
72 Recording and Playing Back Movies To adjust the vol ume, move the z oom control while a movie is playing ( A 1). Playback controls are di splayed in the monitor. The operat ions desc ribed below can be performed by using th e multi selector JK to select a control and th en pressing the k button.
73 Recording and Playing Back Movies Extracting Only the Desired Portions of a Movie The desired portion of a recorded movi e can be saved as a separate file. 1 Play back a movie and pause at the start point of the portion that you want to extract ( A 72).

75 Using Menus Using Menus You can set the menus list ed below by pressing the d (menu) button. • A Shooting menu Available by pressing the d butt on when the shooting screen is displayed. Allows you to cha nge image size and quality, continuous shooting settings, etc.
76 Using Menus 3 Select a menu icon and press the k button. • The menu options become selectable. 4 Select a menu option and press the k button. • Certain menu option s cannot be set dep ending on t he current shooting mode or the state of the camera.

78 Using Menus B Notes About Printing Images at 1 :1 Aspect Ratio Change the prin ter setting to “Border ” when printing images at a 1:1 aspect ratio. Some printers m ay not be able to print images at a 1:1 aspect ratio. B Notes About Image Mode This function may not b e available to use in combinati on with other functions ( A 55).
79 Using Menus White Balance (Adjusting Hue) Adjust white balance to suit the light source or weather conditions in order to make the col ors in images match what you see with you r eyes. B Notes About White Balance • Lower the flash when w hite balance is se t to any setting oth er than Auto and Flash ( A 11) .
80 Using Menus Using Preset Manual Use the procedure below to m easure the white balanc e value under the lighting used during shooting. 1 Place a white or gray reference object under the lighting that will be used during shooting. 2 Use the multi selector HI to select Preset manual in the White balance menu, and press the k button.

83 Using Menus ISO Sensitivity A higher ISO sensitivity allows darker subjec ts to be capt ured. Additionally, even with subjects of similar brightness, pictures can be taken at faster shutter speeds, and blurring caused by camera shake an d subject movement can be reduced.

86 Using Menus Using Subject Tracking 1 Register a subject. • Align the subject that you want to track with the border in the ce nter of the monitor and press the k button. • When the subject is regi stered, a yellow border (focus ar ea) is dis played around it and the camera begin s tracking the subject.
87 Using Menus Autofocus Mode Set how the camera f ocuses when shooting still images. C Autofocus Mode for Movie Recording Autofocus mode fo r movie recording can be set with Autofocus mode ( A 100) in the movie menu.
