26 Basic Photography and Playback: Easy Auto Mode Using the F lash The flash has a range of 0.5-6.3 m (19.7 in.-20 ft. 8.0 in.) when the camera is zoomed out all the way. With maximum op tical zoom applied, the range is 0.5- 3.7 m (19.7 in.-12 ft. 1.7 in.
27 Using the Flash Basic Photography and Playback: Easy Auto Mode B The W (Off) Indicator Note the following when lighting is poor and the flash is off ( W ): • Place the camera on a flat, level surface or use a tripod (recommended). Turn vibration re duction ( A 86) off when using a tripod.

29 Basic Photography and Playback: Easy Auto Mode Macro Mode Macro mode is used for taking pictures of objects as clo se as 15 cm (5.9 in.). Note that the flash may be unable to light enti re subject at distances of less than 50 cm (19.7 in.). 1 Press p (macro mode).

47 Editing Pictures More on Playbac k g Resizing Pictures: Small Picture Create a small copy of the cu rrent picture. Small copies are stored as JPEG files with a compression ratio of 1:16. 48 Movies Movies Recor ding Movies To shoot movies with s ound recorded via the built-in micropho ne, select shooting mode and follow the steps below. 1 Press the shooting mode button in shooting mode to display the shooting-mode selection menu and use the multi se lector to choose D and press k .
49 Movies The Movie Menu [Movie options] setting can be ch anged from the movie menu. Press d in movie mode to display the movie menu and us e the multi selector to modify and apply settings. Selecting Movie Options The movie menu offers the options shown below.
50 The Movie Menu Movies Stop-Motion Movies Take a number of still pictures, at no specified interval, and join them for recording as a movie. Use to create a mo vie that simulates claymation. 1 Use the multi selector to choose [Movie options] > [Stop-motion movie] and press k .
51 Movies Movie Pla yback In full-frame playback mode ( A 24), movies are recognized by the movie mode icon. To play a movie, display it in full-frame playba ck mode and press k . The icon for the movie mode differs according to t he movie option ( A 49) selected in shooting.

53 Connecting to Televi sion s, Computers and Printers Connecting to a Computer When the camera is connected to a co mputer using the supp lied USB cable, pictures recorded with the camera can be copied (transferred) to the computer for storage u sing the Niko n Transf er software .
54 Connect ing to a Comp uter Connecting to Televi sion s, Computers and Printers Transferring Pictur es from the Camera to a Computer 1 Start the computer to which Nikon Transfer was installed. 2 Turn off the camera. 3 Connect the camera to the computer using the supplied USB cable.

Photo Info The following display options are available. See “The Monitor” ( A 6) for information on indicat ors in the monitor.

Da te can be pri nted from printers that do not support the date imprinting ( A 64) . At settings other than [Off], the icon for the current setting is displayed in the monitor ( A 6).
86 Basic Camera Setup: The Setup Menu Shooting, Playback and Setup Menus g Vibration Reduction Vibration reduction effectively corrects blur, caused by slight hand movement known as camera shake, that commonly o ccurs when shooting with zoom applied or at slow shutter speeds.

Auto (defaul t setting) AF-assist illumination will be u sed to assist the focus opera tion when the subject is poorly lit.
