12 First Steps First Steps Charging the Batter y The camera uses a Rechargeable Li -ion Battery EN-EL11 (supplied). Charge the battery with the Battery Char ge r MH-64 (supplied) before first use or when the battery is running low. It is recommended to charge the batter y within six months after it was used.

14 First Steps Inser ting the Battery Insert a Rechargeable Li-i on Battery EN-EL11 (supplied) that has been fully charged, using the Battery Charger MH -64 (supplied), into your camera. 1 Open the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover. 2 Insert the battery.

Hold the camera steadily in both hands, keeping your fingers and other objects away from the lens, flash and self-timer l amp. When taking pictures in “tall” orientation, turn the camera so that the built-in flash is above the lens.
23 Step 2 Frame a Picture Basic Photography and Playback: Auto Mode Digital Zoom W h e n t h e c a m e r a i s z o o m e d i n t o t h e maximum magnification (5×), holding down g ( i ) triggers digital zoom. The subject is magni fied up to 4×, for a total magnification of 20×.
24 Basic Photography and Playback: Auto Mode Step 3 F ocus and Shoot 1 Press the shutter-release button halfway. When people's faces (front view) are recognized: Camera will focus on t he face surrounded by a double border. Once focus has been locked the double border will glow green.

28 Basic Photography and Playback: Auto Mode Using the F lash The flash has a range of 0.3-4.7 m (1-15.4 ft.) when the camera is zoomed out all the way. With maximum optica l zoom applied, the range is 0.6-3.1 m (2-10.2 ft.) (in high sensitivity mode).
29 Using the Flash Basic Photography and Playback: Auto Mode B The W (Off) Indicator Note the following when lighting is poor and the flash is OFF ( W ): • Place the camera on a flat, level su rface or use a tripod (recommended).

33 High Sensitivity Mode High Sensitivity Mode Shooting in the Hi gh Sensitivit y Mode In high sensitivity mode, sens itivity is increased when shoot ing under low lighting, to reduce blurring caused by camera sh ake or subject movement, allowing you to capture the atmosphere of the scene.
