16 1 Before Y ou Begin Mode Dial Using the mode dial, you can set the camera to suit your le vel and style of photography . T o select a mode, align the mode icon with the power - on lamp next to the mode dial.

76 7 The Shoo ting M enu White Balance ( O n l y ) White balance is used to pr eserve natural colors under dif fer ent types of lighting. In (auto) and scene modes, white balance is set a utomat- ically by the camera in response to lighting con- ditions and the selected scene.
77 7 The Shoo ting M enu Preset Whit e Balanc e Preset w hite balance is us ed when shooting un- der mixed lighting or to compensate for light sources with a str ong color cast (for example, to make pictures taken under a lamp with a r ed shade look as though they had been taken un- der white light).
