Basic Photogra phy: Using the Self-Timer 36 Using the Self-Timer The COOLPIX 990 is equipped with an automatic timer with tw o settings: three seconds, useful for r educing camera shake, and ten seconds, ideal for self-portraits.
Ima ge Quality and Siz e Image quality and size together determine the file size of pho- tographs tak en with the camera. This in turn determines how many photogra phs can be stored on a single memory card.
Basic Photogra phy: Imag e Quality and Size 38 JPEG compression anal yzes images in blocks 8 × 8 pixels in size, and selectiv ely reduces detail within each block. At higher compression ratios, the block pattern becomes mor e visible and there ma y be noticeable loss of detail.
