8 Firs t Steps First S teps Inserting Batteries Your ca mera uses : • LR6 (AA ) alkaline ba tteries (×2), or • Nikon EN-MH1 r echargeable nickel-meta l hydride (NiMH) batteries (×2), or • ZR6 .

14 Firs t Steps Basic Setup The first time the cam era is turned on, a language-selection dialog will be displayed in the monitor. Follow the steps below to c hoose a language a nd set the time and date.

19 Step 2 - Frame the Pict ure Basic Photog raphy Digital Zoom In digital zoom, data from the camera's image sensor are processed digita lly, enlarging the center portion of the picture to fill the frame. Unlike opt ical zoom, digit a l zoom does not i ncrease the amount of detail visible in the p icture.
20 Basic Photog raphy Step 3 - Focus and Shoot Focus Press the shutter-release button halfway to set fo- cus and exposure. In P mode, the came ra will automatically focus on the subject at the center of the frame. Focus and exposure will lock while t he shutter-relea se button is pressed halfway.
21 Step 3 - Foc us and Shoot Basic Photog raphy During Recording While pictures are being recorde d to the memory or memory card, the green (AF) lamp blinks, and the < icon lights or the memory icon } / / blinks. Y ou can continue to take pictures until the < icon is displayed.
