Getting started Congratulat ions on your purchase of the system. Your system can guide you to the destination of your choice using signals from Global Positioning Satellites (GP S) or biti ng the earth.
To start the system: 1 Press the POWER butt on. The screen appe ars. 2 Tap Navigate. A warning screen ap pears. 3 Tap “I Agr ee” after you have read and a greed to the warning.
To check the status of your GPS signal: 1 Tap the M enu button and then Settings . 2 Tap GPS Info. The GPS Info scr een appears. 3 To clo se the GPS Info scr een, tap . Entering data on the system The system doesn’t have a keyboard. Inste ad, you tap the screen to enter data .
Moving through the sc reens The system shows you o ne screen at a time. E ach time you t ap a butt on, a new sc reen appears. If you want to return to th e previous screen, t ap .
Working with the ma p The system gives you many ways of looking at the map. You can see your cur re nt position, you can view any of the mane uvers on a route, and you can pan the map to view other areas . You can zoom in and out, and you can find information about specific locations.
Route list Tap ping an item on the list and then tapping Map will display the maneuver detai l screen for that maneuver. Location and POI information You can find location informat ion abou t any point on the map by pressi ng firmly on the map.
To view location information: 1. To view informati on about a loca tion on the map, press firmly on the map. The address information screen appe ars. 2. Tap Informatio n. The Inform ation screen appears, giving you block inform ation about the location, including latitude and longitude.
- 9 - Planning your route You can set a destination with the system many different ways. Once you have set a destination, you can add a detour or a stop ov er. The system also offers an Itinerary feature, where you can enter up to 50 destinati ons and use the Itiner ary screen to move the addresses into any order you like.
Using an address as a destination When you use an ad dress for a destinatio n, you mu st know at least the nam e of the st reet and th e city. Guidan ce directions will be more accurate if you also know th e street num ber of the de stination. Note: If you alr eady have a destination , you can tap New to set a new de stination.
5. Tap Street First. The Enter St reet Name scr een appears. 6. Tap the lette rs to enter th e name of the street. Tap OK when you have selecte d the stre et. The Ent er House Number scr een appears. 7. Select the address that ma tches the location you wa nt to go to and tap Nav.
3. Tap Address. Th e Input Method s creen app ears. 4. If you need to change the region : • Tap Chan ge Stat e. The Enter State Name screen appears. • Tap the letter s to enter the name of the region, or tap the name of th e region. • Tap OK when you have selected the region .
8. Tap the num bers to enter the ho use num ber. Tap OK when you have finished. Th e Select Address scr een appears. 9. Select the address that ma tches the location you wa nt to go to and tap Nav. The map appe ars, and t he guidanc e directions begin.
4. If you nee d to change the reg ion: • Tap Change State . The Enter State Name scr een appears. • Tap the lett ers to enter th e name of the regi on, or tap the name of the regio n. • Tap OK when you have selec ted the regi on. You ret urn to the I nput M ethod s creen.
To enter an intersection as a d estination using City First: 1. Tap MENU. The main menu appear s. 2. Tap Destination. The S et Destination scree n appears. 3. Tap Inters ection. Th e Input M ethod scree n appears . 4. If you need to change the region : • Tap Change Stat e.
6. Tap the lette rs to enter th e name of the city. Tap OK when you have selected the city. The E nter Stree t screen ap pears. 7. Tap the lette rs to enter th e name of the street. Tap OK when you ha ve selec ted the st reet. The En ter 2nd Street Name scre en appears.
Using a Point of Interest (POI) as a destination There are many points of interest that you can select as a destin ation. Generally, you choose a category and then choose one of four methods of selecting the specific point of interest.
5. Tap a subc ategory. Th e POI Opti ons scre en appea rs. 6. To select a nearby POI from an alphabetic al list: • Tap Alphab etical. The Enter P OI Name scre en appears. • Tap the lette rs to enter th e name of the POI. Tap OK when you have selected t he POI.
To select from all POIs in a region: 1. Tap MENU. The main menu appear s. 2. Tap Destination. The S et Destination scree n appears. 3. Tap POI. The Points of Int erest screen appea rs. 4. Tap a cate gory. Us ually a subc ategory scr een appears. Note: If you chose Restau rant, tap the letters to enter a type of restaurant.
6. To select a POI from an alph abetical list: • Tap List All. The Enter POI Name scr een appear s. • Tap the lette rs to enter th e name of the POI. Tap OK when you have selected t he POI. The POI S elect screen ap pears. • Tap Nav. The map appears, and the gu idance directions begin.
Using a Favorite destination as a destination Favorite destinati ons are location s you add to a list on the system. You can add locations to your Favorites list as you set a destina tion, from the POI(S ) screen, and from the Location Inform ation screen.
Using a Recent destination as a destination Recent destinati ons are loc ations you have navig ated to recently . You can e asily select one of these l ocations as a destination . Managing your recent dest ination s list i s cover ed later in this section.
Using a City Center as a destination Sometimes yo u may want to use the system to g et to a city, b ut not to a sp ecific location within the city. To do this you selec t a City Cente r as a des tination.
5. To select a nearby POI by distan ce: • Tap By Distanc e. The City List scree n appears, listing the closest city centers first. • Tap the city that you wa nt to go to and tap Na v. You may need to sc roll down th e list by tappi ng the scroll bar.
Adding detours and stopovers The detour featu re lets you tell the system ab out roads on a route that you do not want to use. Stopove rs are stops yo u add to a trip to mak e prior to r eaching you r destination.
Stopovers Once you have set a destination you can add a stopover. Adding a stopove r does not cancel your original destinat ion. When you reach your stopover, yo u will be pr ompted t o continue t o your final destination. To create a stopover: 1. Tap MENU.
2. Tap Destination. The Desti nation Options screen appears. 3. Tap Stopover. 4. Tap X. A confirmatio n message app ears asking if you want to con tinue to your final destination.
Managing your favorites list You can edit the destinations you add to your favorites list to give them descriptiv e names. You can also remove destinati ons from you r favorites list. To manage your favorites list: 1. Tap MENU. The main menu appear s.
Using Shortcuts The shortc ut feature p rovides you quick access to some of the most important destinations while y ou’re on the road, includi ng: • Home • ATM • Gas • Hospital • Parking • Restaurant • Tourist Info rmation By tapping on any of the POI c ategories, you will s ee a list of t he nearest POIs sorte d by distance.
Setting your options You can set many differ ent options to customize t he system and make it work your way. These opti ons includ e: • display options • route options • speed alert • volume • localization Display options The display opti ons give yo u control ov er the ap pearance of the map.
There are three optio ns for displaying P OI icons. If you choose def ault, the most commonly displa yed categories of POI icons will ap pear on the map at zoom level s of 1000 ft and closer. If you choos e off, no POI icons a re displayed. If you choose custom, you can choos e which cate gories of POI icons yo u want displaye d.
To set your display settings: 1. Tap MENU to enter main menu . 2. Tap Display Options . The Display Options screen appears. 3. Tap your Orientation pr eference: H eading or North. 4. Tap your Guidance p referen ce: Aut o or Man ual. 5. Tap your Day/Nig ht preferenc e: Auto, Night, or Da y.
There are f our method settings. Quickest calculat es the route that shoul d take the l east amount of time. Maj or calculates a route th at uses major road s whenever possibl e. Shortest calcul ates the rout e that is sh ortest in dista nce. Local cal culates a r oute that uses local roads whe never possible.
3. Tap your Method prefe rence: Quickest, M ajor, Shortest, or Loc al. 4. Tap your Ferries pr eference: Incl ude or Exclud e. 5. Tap your Toll Roads preferen ce: Include or Excl ude. 6. Tap your Carpool pref erence: Include or Exclude. 7. Tap your Turns prefer ence: Less or More.
Volume You can set t he volume used by yo ur system to the level most comfortabl e for you. You can also mute the so und. There is also a Mute butt on on the Volume scree n. To change the volume: 1. Tap MENU and th en Sett ings menu appear s. 2. Tap Volume.
There are six time zone setti ngs, for all areas of United States. Ther e are two daylight saving options, to dete rmine wheth er or not daylight savings tim e is currently in effect at your location. There are three s ettings for units, which determine how the dist ance to your location is expressed.
