INTRODUCTION Sentry II is a UPS power m onitoring applicati on for the Wi ndows 95/98/ME, Windows NT/2000/XP, SC O Unixware/Open Desktop, HP-UX, IBM AIX, Red Hat Linux, Tru-64 UNIX, and Novel l Netwar e 4.
- 5 - Step 1. Insert the SentryII Installati on CD and select Install Software from t he menu. If the autorun feature does not work, run setup.exe located in the { drive }: Sent ryIIServerWin32 folder on the SentryII Inst allation CD. NOTE: Replace { drive } with the drive letter of the CDROM dr ive.
- 6 - 1. Start the Windows Services application. 2. From the Windows Start Menu , select the Settings menu, and then select the Control Panel menu. 3. Select the Administrative Tools folder, and then select the Services application. 4. Locate the Sentry II service in the services list.
- 7 - Step 4. The SentryII Data Logs and Event Logs are NOT removed during the uninstall process. They can be located in the C:Program FilesMinuteman SentryII Data and Event folders. Novell Netware Install Procedure Step 1. SentryII must be installed from a Windows client com puter.
- 8 - Step 6. The default web server po rt address is 80. (NOTE: Nove ll Netware v 5. 1 does have the ability to run a web server, you m ay want to change this port address to avoi d a conflict.) Starting SentryII Services NOTE: The hosts file on the Nov ell server may need to be altere d before the SentryII service can run properl y.
- 9 - NOTE: To execute SentryII Server at system startup the support NLM files m a y be placed in the AUTOEXEC.NCF file. Connect to Service Step 1. SentryII must be confi gured from a Windows client computer. Before you begin, you will need the IP address of the Nove ll Netware server.
- 10 - Step 4. The SentryII Data Logs and Event Logs are NOT removed during the uninst all process. They can be located in the SYS: InstallFolder Data and Event folders. Unix Install Procedure Step 1. You must be logged i n to the server as root to ensure that you have full read and write privileges.
- 11 - Step 4. The default web server port address is 80. Starting SentryII Services If, at the end of the installa tion, you selected to start SentryII, then SentryII should be runni ng. If not, please perform the following steps: To start SentryII, execute the follo wing comm ands for your platform : HP-UX 1.
- 12 - IBM AIX 1. cd /usr/local/sbin 2. ./SentryII daem on Red Hat Linux 1. cd /etc/rc.d/init.d 2. ./SentryII start Tru-64 UNIX 1. cd/usr/local/sbin 2. ./SentryII daem on Connect to Service Step 1. Start your favorite web browser. Type in the IP address of your server in the Address bar.
- 13 - CONFIGURA TION After SentryII is connected, the default p age will be displayed. To begin the configuration, select User located in the Server section. User Management The User Management page i s where the valid user accounts are set up for Sentry II.
- 14 - Server Settings The Server Settings page contains the configurabl e settings for the SentryII server. If your se rver requires values other than the defaults, enter the correct values and select Save . A message will be displayed confirming that the changes have been saved.
- 15 - UPS Configuration The Configuration page contains confi gurable and static set tings for the attached UPS. If changes are required, enter the corr ect values and select Save . A message will be displayed confirming that the changes have b een saved.
- 16 - NOTE: Some fiel ds may not be supported or displayed by all UPS’s. EVENT CONFIGURA TION Event Action The event action page provides com plete control over UPS syst em ev ents.
- 17 - The following is a descripti on of the fields contained on this page: • Event Displays the name of the event that is b eing configu red. • Paging Enabled Select the checkbox to enable paging for t his event. This option al lows you to retain your settings whether t he option is enabled or disabl ed.
- 18 - Followed by a 3 second pause. The numbers 8007597243 would be dial ed. Followed by a 15 second pause. The numbers 123456 and # would be dial ed. Followed by a 9 second pause. Then, the numeric add or remove alarm would be sent as the pager message.
- 19 - • SNMP Trap Enabled Select the checkbox to enable sending a trap for t his event. • IP Address The IP address of the computer that will receive the trap. Up to 10 addresses may be entered, each in a separate field. • Community This is the community name used when sending the trap.
- 20 - The following is a descripti on of the fields contained on this page: • Event Displays the name of the event that is b eing configu red. • Send Email Enable d Select the checkbox to enable sending em ail notificat ions for this event. • Delay The amount of tim e in seconds, after the event occurs, before sendi ng email noti fications.
- 21 - To set up shutdown for an event, select the Shutdown button. The following config uration page will b e displayed. NOTE: The SentryII Remote client may be used to extend the system shutdown featu re to multiple servers/workstations in a n etwor k.
- 22 - To set up a system comm and for an event, select the Command button. The following co nfiguration p age will be displayed. The following is a descripti on of the fields contained on this page: • Event Displays the name of the event that is b eing configu red.
- 23 - MONIT ORING Meter The meter page displ ays current m eter readings from t he UPS. This allows you to view a quick snapshot of the status of the UPS . Identification The identification pag e displays the UPS model information. An Identification descript ion and Attached Devices m ay be entered here.
- 24 - Input The input page displays t he current state of the input power t o the UPS. Refer to the document ation provided with the UPS for more details on the i nformation provided on t his page. Output The output page displays t he current state of the output power from the UPS.
- 25 - Alarm The alarm page display s the current state of the alarm s supported by the UPS. View Graphic The view graphic page provides a current view of UPS values. Th e m eters show nom inal value ranges in green, the thresholds in yellow, and invalid v alues in red.
- 26 - If you wou ld like to see other v alues, changing them is easy. To change a value or a meter, click on the title of the v alue or meter and the following window will be displayed. Select a new value from the drop-down l ist and select Save . The value will automatically be updated on the view graphic page.
- 27 - UPS CONTROL OPTIONS Control The control page provides the interface for controlling various opti ons provided by the UPS. You can control startup, shutdown , restart, and testing opt ions. Not all opti ons are supported or displayed by all UPS’s.
- 28 - After selecting the New button or [Edit] , the following p age will be displayed. Select the d esired shutdown an d restart configuratio n and select the Save button. The following is a descripti on of the fields contained on this page: • Date The date when the event should occur.

- 30 - View Data Log The view data log page allows yo u to select a date range of UPS lo g records to view. Leaving the date fields blank will displa y all records. To display the log, after sel ecting the desired date range, select t he OK button. A page similar to the following will be d isplayed.
- 31 - View Event Log The view event log pag e allows you to select a date range o f event log records to view. Leaving the date fields b lank will dis play all records. To display the log, after sel ecting the desired date range, select t he OK button.
- 32 - • Tru-64 UNIX 2. The SentryII Rem ote client MUST be on the sam e netw ork as t he server/workstation hosting t he SentryII Server. 3. NO other equipment is required! All Rem ote Cli ents can be autom atically shut down by one event from one M INUTEMAN UPS.
- 33 - • Server Address The SentryII Server’s IP address. • Server Port The API port number of the SentryII Server. (See Server Settings on page 13) • Username The default is admi n. This setting m ust coincide with the defined Sentry II users list.
- 34 - Step 2. Insert the SentryII Installation CD and sel ect Install Software from the m enu. If the autorun feature does not work, run setup.exe located in the { cdrom drive }: RemoteClientNetware folder on the SentryII Installation CD. Step 3. The InstallShield Wizard will gui de you through the installation process.
- 35 - • On Battery Shutdown The amount of time in seconds, after the event occurs, before th e Remote Client will be shutdown. If the event is removed before th e delay time is reached, the action will be cancelled.
- 36 - Step 4. Specify the desired setti ng for the SentryII Remote client. NOTE: This splash screen is only availab le during the install p rocess. To change th ese settings after installation, yo u may edi t the usr/local/sbin/ SIIRemote.
