12 I NSTALLATION Q UICK I NSTALLATION O UT LINE The following is a quick previ ew of the steps required for 1 st time installations. Each item is discussed in detail later in this section. • Determine clearance, ventilation and service access requirements.
13 I NSTALLATION U NPACKING THE U NIT 1. Make sure the shipping box is top-side u p before opening. 2. Lift the scanner out of the shipping box by g ripping the bottom of the unit on both sides.

The scanner mu st then be configured to match the host’s RS232 parameters. Cable installation alone does not guarantee that the scanner will communicate properly with the host system.

This po wer save mode † turns the laser OFF after a configured period of non-use t hen turns the motor OFF after thirt y-minute intervals.

Eight settings are available for the tone of the beep (normal , 6 alter nate tones and no tone) plus three volume settings.
30 S CANNER O PERATION I NDICATOR D ESCRIPTIONS Visual Steady Blue When all lasers are active, the blue LED is illumin ated. The bl ue LED will remain illuminated until all l asers are deactivated . Steady Blue and Single blue Flash When the scanner successfully reads a bar code, the bl ue LED will flash and the scanner will beep once.

35 S CANNER O PERATION B EEPER O PTIONS AND B UTTON F UNCTIONS Changing the Beeper To ne Beeper tones may be configured incrementa l ly using the following bar code. The ne w tone will be heard followed by a short pause. Two more new tones will be he ard signifying the new setti ng has been stored in memory.
36 S CANNER O PERATION S TAR TUP When the scanner first receives po wer, the blue LED will turn on and the scanner will beep onc e. The scanner is no w ready to scan. P OWER -U P T EST M ODE When a MS2421/MS2422 scanner is first po wered up, it cycl es through a number of self-tests before starting normal operation.
37 M AINTENANCE H ORIZONTAL S CAN W INDOW R EPLACEMENT After the replacement platter has been install ed, remove all protective film from the new platter’s windo w. The unit will not func tion properly if the p rotective film is not remov ed. Figure 36.
