CONNECTIONS (CONTINUED) OUTDOOR VHF/UHF ANTENNA CONNECTION Follow the instructions for the type of antenna system you intend to use. If using Cable TV (CA TV), see bottom of page. CABLE (CA TV)/SA TELLITE CONNECTIONS This unit has an extended tuning range and can tune most cable channels without using a Cable TV converter box.

16 ABOUT DISCS PLA Y ABLE DISCS: T he following discs can be played back on this player: DISC TYPES: DVD Data on most DVDs is divided into sections called “titles” and then into subsections called “chapters”, each of which is given a title or chapter number .
Notes on Copyright: It is forbidden by law to copy , broadcast, show , broadcast on cable, play in public and rent copyrighted material without permission. DVD video discs are copy protected, and any recordings made from these discs will be distorted.
18 DVD SETUP MENU The SETUP MENU lets you customize the DVD section by allowing you to select various language preferences, turn captions and screen saver on and off, adjust what type of television screen you have and more. W hile in the DVD mode (DVD button pressed first), enter the SETUP MENU by pressing the SETUP button 1 .
19 NORMAL/PS: Pan Scan. Select when the unit is connected to a conventional TV . Video material formatted in the Pan Scan style is played back in that style (the left and right edges are cut off). NORMAL/LB: Letter Box. Select when the unit is connected to a normal TV .
20 DVD SETUP MENU (CONTINUED) L T/RT : Select to hear the sound in theatrical downmix mode. STEREO: Select to hear the sound in Stereo downmix mode. 1 SPEAKER SETUP MENU: S elect Audio and then select the desired option using the Navigation ( √ , ® , π , † ) buttons to navigate through the menus/screens and press the OK button to select.
21 DVD SETUP MENU (CONTINUED) Select the language the DVD will be played back in (ENGLISH, FRENCH, SP ANISH, GERMAN, JAP ANESE). The DVD must be recorded in the selected language, otherwise the default language of the DVD will be played. 1 Select the language the Subtitle (OSD) will be in (ENGLISH, FRENCH, SP ANISH, GERMAN, JAP ANESE, OFF).
22 DVD SETUP MENU (CONTINUED) Press the SETUP button 1 to enter the Setup Menu. Scroll to TVG using the Navigation ( √ , ® ) buttons 2 , then press the OK button 3 .
23 DVD SETUP MENU (CONTINUED) Activate the TVG ® function and enter the menu as described on the previous page. Press the TVG button 1 , then press the OK button 2 .The TVG ® Password menu will appear . Input your password then press the OK button 2 again to enter the TVG ® Setup menu.
24 VCR SETUP MENU The SETUP MENU lets you customize the VCR section by allowing you to set various options, such as clock, program, channels and more. While in the VCR mode (VCR button pressed first) enter the SETUP MENU by p ressing the SETUP button 1 .
25 VCR SETUP MENU (CONTINUED) Enter the VCR mode and the Setup screen as described on page 24; the Setup menu will appear . Scroll to Program Set using the Navigation ( † ) button 1 . Press the OK button 2 to select it; the Program menu will appear .
26 VCR SETUP MENU (CONTINUED) Enter two digits for the start hour and two digits for the start minute using the Number buttons 1 . As each number is pressed, the cursor will move to the right. When finished, the AM/PM setting will blink. Press the Number 1 button 2 for AM or the Number 2 button 3 for PM; the End T ime hour digits will blink.

33 VCR OPERA TION T APE SPEED AND MAXIMUM RECORDING TIME Press the SP/SLP button to select the recording speed. Speed selection is automatic during playback. The "SP" mode is recommended for recording music programs. 1 LOADING Push the center of the tape until it is automatically retracted into the VCR.
34 VCR OPERA TION (CONTINUED) TO ST ART PLA YBACK If the unit is in DVD mode, press the DVD/VCR button (on the main unit) or VCR Button (on the remote) to change the unit to VCR mode. Press the POWER button to turn on the unit and load a prerecorded tape.
35 VCR OPERA TION (CONTINUED) TO REWIND THE T APE RAPIDL Y TO F AST FOR W ARD THE T APE RAPIDL Y Press the Reverse Search √√ (Rewind) button 1 while in the Stop mode; ”REW” will appear in the display .
36 VCR OPERA TION (CONTINUED) TO VIEW ANOTHER PROGRAM WHILE RECORDING DISPLA Y If this VCR/DVD Combo is connected to a TV through the antenna socket, when the unit is turned on, the combo will block the antenna signal and send the modulated signal to the TV so you can watch the VCR but cannot receive other signals from antenna.
37 VCR OPERA TION (CONTINUED) RECORDING A TV PROGRAM/EXTERNAL A V INPUT If the unit is in DVD mode, press the DVD/VCR button (on the main unit) or VCR Button (on the remote) to change the unit to VCR mode. Press the POWER button to turn on the unit and load a tape with the Erase Prevention T ab intact.
38 VCR OPERA TION (CONTINUED) TO ST OP RECORDING TEMPORARIL Y TO ST OP RECORDING Press the PLA Y/P AUSE ®P button to avoid recording unwanted material. Press the PLA Y/P AUSE ®P button again to continue recording. The Pause mode will be released after 5 minutes to prevent damage to the tape, the unit will then be in the Stop mode.
39 VCR OPERA TION (CONTINUED) RECORDING FROM A DVD T O A CASSETTE IMPORT ANT : Many commercial DVDs have copyright protection that will not enable them to be recorded. In this case, you will not be able to copy it. Press the POWER button to turn on the unit and load a tape with the Erase Prevention T ab intact.

41 DVD BASIC OPERA TION 1 2 After loading, “DVD VIDEO” will appear on the screen and t he menu screen of the DVD should appear . Use the Navigation ( √ , ® , π , † ) buttons 1 to select the desired option and the OK button 2 to select it. 3 Press the POWER button to turn on the unit.
42 DVD BASIC OPERA TION (CONTINUED) Press the NEXT n button 1 to advance the DVD to the beginning of the next chapter . Press the PREVIOUS o button 2 to move the DVD to the beginning of the previous chapter .
43 DVD BASIC OPERA TION (CONTINUED) Press the SEARCH button 1 once. Press the Navigation ( √ , ® ) buttons 2 to select the T itle (“TT”), then use the Number buttons 3 to select the desired title number (i.e. for number 5, press “0”, “5”).
44 DVD BASIC OPERA TION (CONTINUED) Press the DVD MENU button 1 , and the Main Menu of the disc will appear . Use the Navigation ( √ , ® , π , † ) buttons 2 to select the desired option, and then press the OK button 3 . This is not available on all discs.
45 MP3 BASIC OPERA TION Press the POWER button to turn on the unit. 1 1 While in the DVD mode (DVD button pressed first), press the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the disc tray , “OPEN” will appear on the screen. Insert an MP3 disc with the label side facing up on the disc tray .

Caring for Discs • Treat the disc carefully . Handle the disc only by its edges. Never allow your fingers to come in contact with the shiny , unprinted side of the disc. • Do not attach adhesive tape, stickers, etc. to the disc label. • Clean the disc periodically with a soft, lint-free, dry cloth.
55 VIDEO HEAD CLOGGING/CLEANING • DO NOT A TTEMPT T O CLEAN THE VIDEO HEADS OR SERVICE THE UNIT BY REMOVING THE TOP COVER. • Video heads may eventually wear out and should be replaced when they fail to produce clear pictures. • T o help prevent video head clogging, use only good quality Video Cassette T apes.
