Black plate (14,1) Front Seats (Manually Operated Seats) WARNING Do not modify or replace the front seats: Modifying or replacing the front seats such as replacing the upholst ery or loosening any bolts is dangerous. The front seats contain air ba g components essential to the supplemental restrain t system.
Black plate (15,1) q Seat Recline WARNING Do not drive with either front seat reclined: Sitting in a reclined posi tion while the vehicle is moving is dangerous because you do not get the full protection from sea t belts. During sudden braking or a collisi on, you can slide under the lap belt and suffer serious inte rnal injuries.
Black plate (16,1) CAUTION When returning a rear -reclined seatback to its upright position, make sure you hold on to the seatback with you r other hand while operating the lever. If the seatback is not supported, it will flip forward suddenly and could cause injury.
Black plate (17,1) CAUTION Ø The seat-bottom power adjustment is operated by moto rs. Avoid extended operation becaus e excessive use can damage the motors. Ø To prevent the battery from running down, avoid using the power adjustment when th e engine is stoppe d.

Do not drive with the seatbac k unlocked: All of the seatbacks play an important role in your protec tion in a vehicle.

Black plate (24,1) q Armrest The rear armrest in the center of the rear seatback can be used (no occupant in the center seat) or placed upright. Armrest Head Restraints Head restraints are intended to help protect you and the passen gers from neck injury .
Black plate (25,1) Rear seat Seat W armer í Press the HI or LO side of the seat warmer switch with the ignition is switche d ON. The indicator on the switch illuminate s and the seat warms up. If a higher temperature is preferred, press the HI side of the switch, and for a lower temperature, press the LO side.
Black plate (26,1) WARNING Ø Be careful when using the seat warmer. The heat from th e seat warmer may be too ho t for some people, as indicated below, and could cause a low-temperatur e burn.
Black plate (27,1) Seat Belt Precautions Seat belts help to decrease the possibility of severe injury during acciden ts and sudden stops. Mazda recommends that the driver and all passengers always wear seat belt s. All of the seat belt retr actors are designed to keep the lap/shoulder belts out of the way when not in use.
Black plate (28,1) WARNING Always wear your seat belt and ma ke sure all occupants are properly restrained: Not wearing a seat belt is extremely danger ous. During a collis ion, occupants not wearing seat belts could hit someone or things inside th e vehicle or even be thrown out of the vehicle.
Black plate (29,1) CAUTION Belt retraction may become difficult if the belts and rings are soiled, so try to keep them clean. For more details about cleaning the seat belts, refer to “ Cleaning the Lap/Shoulder Belt Webbin g ” (page 8-57).
Black plate (30,1) q Automatic Locking Mode Always use the automatic locking mode to keep the child-restraint system from shifting to an unsafe position in the event of an accident. T o enable seat belt automatic locking mode, pull it all the way out and connect it as instruct ed on the child-restrai nt system.

Black plate (32,1) q Unfastening the Seat Belt Depress the button on the seat belt buckle . If the belt does not fully retract, pull it out and check for kinks or twists. Then make sure it remains untwisted as it retracts. Button NOTE If a belt does not fully retract, inspect it for kinks and twists.
Black plate (33,1) Front Seat Belt Pretensioner and Load Limiting Systems For optimum protection, the driver and front passenger seat belts are equipped with pretensioner and load limiting systems. For both these systems to work properly you must wear the seat belt properly .
Black plate (34,1) Do not modify the components or wiring, or use electronic testing devices on the pretensioner system: Modifying the componen ts or wiring of the pretensioner system, including the use of electronic testing dev ices is dangerous.
Black plate (35,1) q Air Bag/Front Seat Belt Pretensioner System W arning Beep If a malfunction is detected in both the air bag/front seat belt pretensioner syst em and the warning light, a warning beep sound will be he ard for about 1 minute. After that, the one-minute beep will be repeated every 30 minutes.
Black plate (36,1) WARNING Do not use a seat belt extender unless it is necessar y: Using a seat belt exten der when not necessary is danger ous. The seat belt will be too long and not fit properly. In an accident, the seat belt will not provide adequate protec tion and you could be seriously injured.
Black plate (37,1) Seat Belt W arning Light/ Beep The seat belt warning light illuminates and a beep sound will be heard if the driver's seat belt is not fastened when the ignition is switched ON. Black plate (40,1) WARNING Use the correct size child-restraint system: For effective protection in vehicle accident s and sudden stop s, a child must be properly restrained using a seat belt or child-restraint system depending on age and size. If not, the child could be seriously injured or even killed in an accident.
Black plate (41,1) Do not install a front-faci ng child-restraint system on the front passenger seat unless it is unavoidable: In a collision, the fo rce of a deploying air bag could cause serious injury or death to the child.

Black plate (43,1) Installing Child-Restraint Systems Accident statistics reveal that a child is safer in the rear seat. The front passenger's seat is clearly the worst choice for any child under 12, and wi th rear-facing child- restraint systems it is clearly unsafe due to air bags.

Y ou can locate the various air bags by the use of “ SRS AIRBAG ” location indicators. The se indicators are visible in the area where the air bags are installed.

Black plate (59,1) How the Air Bags W ork q How the Front Air Bags W ork When air bag crash sensor s detect a frontal impact of greater than moderate force, an electrical current is sent to the inflators. Gases are produced to inflate the front air bags and after the inflation, the front air bags quickly deflate.

Black plate (86,1) Operation Using Advanced Key Functions q Keyless Entry System This system uses the more traditi onal keyless entry butto ns to remotely lock and unlock the doors and opens the trunk lid, and opens the power windows and the moonroof.

Keyless Entry System í This system remotely locks and unlocks the doors and opens the trunk lid, and opens the power windows and the moonroof.
Black plate (95,1) NOTE l The keyless entry system is designed to operate up to about 2.5 m (8 ft) from the center of the vehicle, but this may vary due to local conditions. l The system does not operate when the key is in the ignition switch. l Doors can be locked by pr essing the lock button while any other door is open.
Black plate (96,1) Lock button T o lock the doors, press the lock button. T o confi rm that all doors have been locked, press the lock button again within 5 seconds. If they are closed and locked, the horn will sound. The system can be set not to sound the horn.
Black plate (97,1) Panic button If you witness from a distance someone attempting to break into or damage your vehicle, pressing the panic button will activate the vehicle' s alarm. NOTE The panic button will work whether any door or the trunk lid is open or closed.

Door-lock knob NOTE l (With advanced key) The driver's door cannot be locked using the door-lock knob fr om the outside.

Black plate (103,1) T runk Lid WARNING Never allow a person to ride in the trunk: Allowing a person to ride in the trunk is dangerous. In addition , the person in the trunk could be seriou sly injured or killed during sudden braking or a collision.
Black plate (104,1) Opening the trunk lid with the transmitter (with retractable type key) The trunk lid can be opened by operating the keyless entry system transmi tter, refer to Keyless Entry System (page 3-24). Opening the trunk lid with the remote release button Push the release button.

After performing this emergency measure, have the vehicle inspected at an Authorized Mazda Dealer as soon as possible. Closing the trunk lid Use both hands to push the trunk lid down until the lock snaps shut.
Black plate (106,1) Inside T runk Release Lever Y our vehicle is equipped with an inside trunk release lever that provides a means of escape for children and adults in the event they become locked inside the trunk.
Black plate (107,1) q Opening the T runk Lid from the Inside Slide the inside trunk relea se lever in the direction of the arrow . The lever is made of material that will glow for hours in the darkness of the trunk following a brief exposure to ambient light.
Black plate (108,1) q Operating the Front Power Windows NOTE l Each passenger power window can be operated with each door switch when the power window lock switch on the driver's door is in the unlocked position (page 3-40).
Black plate (109,1) NOTE (POWER WINDOW RESET PROCEDURE) If the battery was disconnected during vehicle maintenance, or for other reasons such as a switch continues to be operated after the window is fully open/close, the power windows will not fully open and close automatically .
Black plate (110,1) q Operating the Rear Power Windows The power windows may be operated when the power window lock switch on the driver's door is in the unlocked position. The rear power windows may be opened or closed using the power window master control switches on the driver's door .
Black plate (11 1,1) q Opening/Closing the Power Windows and the Moonroof from Outside The front power windows and the moonroof can be opened or closed from outside the vehicle after the doors and the trunk lid are closed.
Black plate (112,1) WARNING Use the remote auto-window and the auto-moonroof function only when you can see the vehicle and it is in a secure area: Do not let children play with your keys.
Black plate (113,1) With key 1. Insert the key in the driver's door key cylinder . 2. Rotate the key clockwise and hold until the windows and the moonroof are completely open. After the doors are unlocked, the windows fully open automatically . Open T o stop this operation, turn the key to the center position, then turn it clockw ise again.
Black plate (114,1) 2. Press and hold the request switch on the driver's door . After the doors are locked, the windows and the moonroof close as long as the request switch is pressed. Request switch T o stop the windows and the moonr oof from closing, release the request switch.
