6 19. Make sure the shaft lock is released before the s witch is turned on. 20. Be sure that the blade does not contact the turn base in the lowest position. 21. Hold the handle firmly . Be aware that the saw moves up or do wn slightly during start-up and stopping.
7 INST ALLA TION Benc h mounting When the tool is shipped, the handle is lock ed in the lowered position by the stopper pin. Release the stopper pin b y lower- ing the handle slightly and pulling the stopper pin. This tool should be bolted with two bolts to a le vel and stab le surf ace using the bolt holes provided in the tool’ s base.
8 If the see-through blade guard becomes dirty , or sawdust adheres to it in such a wa y that the blade is no longer easily visible , unplug the saw and clean the guard carefully with a damp cloth. Do not use solvents or an y petroleum-based cleaners on the plastic guard.
9 Maintaining maximum cutting capacity This tool is fa ctor y adjusted to provide the maximum cutting capacity f or a 255 mm (10 ” ) saw blade . When installing a new b lade, alwa ys check the lo wer limit position of the blade and if necessary , adjust it as follo ws: First, unplug the tool.
10 Adjusting the bevel angle T o adjust the bev el angle, loosen the lev er at the rear of the tool counterclockwise . Push the handle to the left to tilt the saw b lade until the pointer points to the desired angle on the be vel scale. Then tighten the le ver clockwise firmly to secure the arm.
11 • F or your saf ety , this tool is equipped with a lock-off button which pre vents the tool from unintended starting. NEVER use the tool if it runs when you simply pull the s witch tr igger without pressing the loc k-off button. Return tool to a Makita ser vice center f or proper repairs BEFORE fur ther usage.
12 T o remove the b lade, use the sock et wrench to loosen the he x bolt holding the center cover b y tur ning it countercloc k- wise. Raise the b lade guard and center cover . Press the shaft lock to loc k the spindle and use the socket wrench to loosen the he x bolt clockwise.
13 T o install the blade, mount it carefully onto the spindle , mak- ing sure that the direction of the arrow on the surf ace of the blade matches the direction of the arro w on the blade case.

15 Holders and holder assembl y (optional accessories) The holders and the holder assembly can be installed on either side as a conv enient means of suppor ting workpieces horizontally . Install them as shown in the figure . Then tighten the screws firmly to secure the holders and the holder assembly .
16 1. Press cutting (cutting small workpieces) W or kpieces up to 75 mm (2-15/16 ” ) high and 140 mm (5-1/2 ” ) wide can be cut in the f ollowing wa y . Push the carriage toward the guide f ence fully and tighten the clamp screw on the turn base clockwise to secure the carriage.

22 7. Cutting aluminum ex trusion When securing aluminum e xtr usions, use spacer b locks or pieces of scrap as shown in the figure to pre v ent def or mation of the aluminum. Use a cutting lubricant when cutting the aluminum e xtrusion to prev ent build-up of the aluminum material on the blade.
23 CA UTION: • Use screws to attach the wood f acing to the guide f ence. The screws should be installed so that the scre w heads are below the surf ace of the wood f acing. • When the wood f acing is attached, do not tur n the turn base with the handle lowered.
24 CA UTION: • Be sure to return the stopper plate to the or iginal position when perf or ming other than groo ve cutting. Carrying tool Make sure that the tool is unplugged. Secure the b lade at 0 ° be vel angle and the turn base at r ight miter angle fully .
25 1. Miter angle Push the carriage toward the guide f ence and tighten the clamp screw on the turn base to secure the carriage. Loosen the clamp screw on the guide f ence which secures the turn base. T urn the tur n base so that the pointer points to 0 ° on the miter scale.

27 Replacing carbon brushes Remov e and check the carbon brushes regularly . Replace when they we ar down to the limit mark. Keep the carbon brushes clean and free to slip in the holders. Both carbon brushes should be replaced at the same time. Use only iden- tical carbon brushes.
