1 Magellan RoadMate SE4/ 1420/1424 GPS Receiver The Magellan ® RoadMate ® receiver is a vehicle navigation produc t that utilizes GPS signa ls from satellit es to calculate your precise location and compute navigati onal information that can be used to guide you to your destination.
2 Map Coverage The Magellan RoadMate SE4 and 1420 have internal maps for th e 48 continental United States, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. The Magellan RoadMate 1424 has internal maps for th e 50 United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. This document is set up t o be printed on 8.
3 Installation Instructions Installation of the Magellan RoadMate receiver is simple and easy . The hardest part will be picking the best location. Selecting the Location A few tips on selecting the proper location. • Mount the Magellan RoadMate receiver in a place where it can be easily seen and will not interfere with your view of the road.
4 Attaching the Magellan RoadMate receiver to the Car Cradle Slide the Magellan RoadMate recei ver on th e car cradle so that the slot on the Magellan RoadMate receiver aligns with the tab on the car cradle. Sl ide the Magellan RoadMate receiver all the way down until it rests on th e 'feet'.
5 Security It is recommended th at the Magellan Road Mate receiver is no t left in plain view while unatte nded for reasons of theft. Please note that the Magellan RoadMate receiver is a receiver only and does not transmit GPS location signals. Neither the receiver nor the vehicle can be track ed using the Magellan RoadMate receiver .
6 Fundamentals Powering on the Magellan RoadMate receiver The Power On/Off switch is located on the top of the Magellan RoadMate receiver . T urning the Mage llan RoadMate receiver On 1. Slide the power switch to the left. 2. After the in itial splash scr een the Warnings screen is displayed.
7 On the Brightness screen there is a Dim on Battery Po wer option. When Dim on Battery Power is checked, the Magellan RoadMate recei ver will reduce the brig htness when operati ng exclusively on battery power and you have not used the touch scr een for a few seconds.
8 Keypad Understanding the keypad while entering an address is an i mportant part of using your Magellan RoadMate receiver . The keypad is the most common method for entering data into the Magellan RoadMate rece iver .
9 Smart City Search The Magellan RoadMate receiver utilizes a feature known as “Sma rt City Sea rch”. What this d oes is it attempts to predict the city you are looking for . This prediction is based upo n two major factors; your position and cities you’ve gone to before.
10 Map Screen The most commonly used screen is the Map screen. Whether you are follow ing a route or just tr aveling around a city , the chances ar e that the Map screen will be displayed. The Map screen can be displayed i n two unique modes: normal and r outing.

12 Current Location Screen This screen can be accessed from the Tr i p Options screen or from the Map screen. The Current Location sc reen displays the ap proximate address of your current position, the next and previous intersections, your latitude, longit ude, heading and elevat ion.
13 Vo l u m e The volume can be adjust ed or muted from the Map screen. (The volume can al so be adjusted from Settings > Sound.) Changing the V ol ume from the Map Screen 1.
14 Enter Address If you know at least a part of the address, it is the quicke st way to select th e destination of the route. This function is use d to create a route from: • an exact address, inclu.
15 Entering an Intersection When the str eet number i s not known, a n intersecting street can pinpoint t he location. 1. From the Main Menu, tap the Go T o icon. 2. T ap the Inte rsection icon . 3. Enter C ity: Y ou have three ways to do this: • T o select the city from the list of previous city , tap the button.
16 • T o enter a ZIP code: if needed, ta p the Zip Code button. Enter th e ZIP code. T ap to br ing up a li st of cities with the zip code entered. T ap on the city name t o select it fro m the list.
17 8. If you have selected to save this to the OneT ou ch menu, you need to select a the OneT ouch button you want to assign. Clearing the list of Previous Destinat ions 1. Access the list of Previous De stinations as descri bed above. 2. T ap Delete All to clear the list.
18 6. Edit informati on: • T ap the Name field and use the keypad to enter a na me for the address book e ntr y . (Entering the name is described in de tail in chapt er Map Screen .) • (optional) T ap <W ork, Cell or Home Phone Number> to specify a phone number for the address book entry .
19 OneT ouch Menu In addition to Home Address, there are other icons in the OneT ouch Menu. The re ar e predefined bookmarks as well as user assignable bookmarks for searches and favorite destinations. They can be used for easy ac cess of frequent destinations and to get local information when needed.
20 Points of Interest (POI) The Magellan RoadMate receiver has prel oaded POIs that can be used a s a destination for a route. Selecting a restaurant or finding a gas statio n ne arby is at your fingertip s. Creating a Route to a POI by Category POIs are categorized into unique categories from gas stations to tourist attractions .
21 Creating a Route to a POI by Name 1. From the Main Menu , tap the Go T o icon. 2. T ap the Points of Interest icon. 3. T ap Search By Name . 4. Spell the name of the POI to be used as the destination. Y ou need not enter the full name, but the more characters you enter , the easier it will be to fi nd the exact POI you are searc hing for .
22 Home Address Y our most frequent destination can be entered and save d in the Magellan RoadM ate as the Home Address for quick and easy access when you need to navig ate there. This does not need to be your real home address. Choose any address you visit frequently .
23 T raveling on a Route Map Screen When a route has been calculated, it will be displ ayed on the Map screen in green with small arrows indicating the direction of travel. The top of the screen displays the name of the street that comes next in your T urn List together with its distance.

25 Multi Destination Routes With the Magellan RoadMate you can create routes with more than one destination. Sele ct one destination and create a single route first.

29 Muting the Sound 1. From the Main Menu screen, tap the Settings icon. 2. T ap Sound. 3. Checking Mute will mute a ll sounds. T urning off Button Sounds 1. 30 Adding Features This option is used when pur chasing an additional feature for your recei ve r that requires a code to authorize it. Check the Magellan web site periodi cally for new fe atures, enhancements or even software updates. 1. From the Main Menu screen, tap the Settings icon.
31 T raffic Live traffic information is an option a vailable for your Magellan Roa dMate using the T raffic Link accessory . The T raffic Link accessory connects to your Magellan receive r th rough the T raffi c Link power cable that is supplied in the kit.
32 T raffic Incidents When routing, if a traf fic incident(s), slow traffic or stopped traffic will delay your arrival, the traffic icon on the Map screen will display the computed delay du e to traffic in the red box below the traffic icon.
