3 Section 1: Installation Thank you for buying a Lowrance ® sonar! Your unit is a high quality sonar designed for both professi onal and novi ce fishermen. Al l Lowrance sonars have a n automatic mode that finds and displays th e bottom, fish, underwa ter structure an d more – right out of th e box.
4 installation methods is right for your boat. Us e extreme c are if mounting the transd ucer inside th e hull, becaus e once it is epoxied into position, the transducer usuall y cannot be rem oved.
5 NOTE: Some aluminum boats with strakes or ribs on the outside o f the hull create large amou nts of turbul ence at high s peed. These boats typically h ave large out board motors capable of pro pelling the b oat at speeds faster than 35 mph. Typically, a good tra nsom location on aluminum boats is between the ribs closest to the engin e.
6 How low should you go? For most situations, yo u should install your Ski mmer transducer s o that its centerline is level wit h the bottom of th e boat hull. This will usually give you the b est combination of smooth water flow and protection fr om bangs and bumps.
7 However, the shoot -thru-hull instal lation does hav e its drawbacks. First, some loss of s e nsitivity d oes occur, ev en on the best hull s. This varies from hull to hull, even from differe nt installat ions on the sam e hull. This is caused by differ ences in hull lay-up an d construction.
8 If the trans ducer's face isn't p arallel with the gr ound, remove th e transducer and ratc hets from the bracket. Plac e the ratchets into t he holes in the bracket with the let ter "B" aligned with the dot stamped in the bracket.
9 Mark the center of eac h slot for the mounting sc rew pilot holes. You will drill on e hole in the c enter of each slot. Drill the holes using the #29 bit (for the #10 screw s). Position transducer m ount on transom and mark m ounting holes. Side view shown at left and seen from above at right.
10 Align transducer centerline with hull bottom and attach to transom. 6. Route the transduc er cable through or o ver the transom t o the sonar unit. Make sure to leave some slack in the cable at the tr an sd uce r . If possible, route the transducer cable away from other wiring on the boat.
11 Attach motor mounting bracket to tra nsducer. 2. Slide the adjustable st rap suppli ed wit h the TMB-S t hrough the sl ot in the transducer b racket and wra p it around t he trolling motor. Position the transduc er to aim straight down when the moto r is in the water.
12 Transducer Orientation and Fish Arches If you do not get good fish arches on your disp lay, it could be beca use the transducer is not parallel with the ground when the boat is at rest in the water or at slow troll ing speeds.
13 hours, fill the rem aining space with polyester resin. When t he job is finished, the hull is watertigh t and structurally sound. Remember, the sonar signal must pass through solid fiberglass. Any air bubbles in the fiberglass or the e poxy will reduc e or eliminat e the sonar signals.
14 If you can' t get an accept able bottom signal, try tur ning up th e sensitivity by three or five keystr okes and then move the transducer aro und on ce more.
15 100 grit sandpaper. The sanded hull ar ea should be about 1-1/2 times the diameter of the transducer. The su rface of the hull m ust be flat so the entire transduc er face is in contact with the hull prior to bonding. After sand ing, clean the hull and transdu cer with rubbin g alcohol to remove any sa nding debris.

18 Bracket Installation Mount the unit in any co nvenient locati on, provided th ere is clearance when it’s tilted f or the best viewin g angle. Y ou should also m ake sure there is en ough room behind the unit to attach the p ower/transducer cable.

20 Installing the Batte ries Release the latch on the front of the case. Open the case and install eight AA batteries in the battery compartment. After installing the batteries, plug the so nar unit's power cable into the batt ery compartmen t socket.
21 Section 2: Operation Keyboard Numbers in the foll owing phot o correspond to the foll owing ke y explanations: X51 Pro 1. PWR/CLEAR This key appears in the manual text simply as PWR . Press this key to t u r n t h e u n i t o n a n d o f f . I t a l s o clears menu selections and the menus from the screen.
22 Menus The menu ke ys access thes e features, allowing y ou to custom ize the unit to your p articula r needs a nd wa ter co nditio ns. All you ha ve to do to le ave o ne menu and enter an other is press MENU repeatedl y. If you ever ge t lost in the men us, simp ly press the PWR key.
23 Chart Scroll In normal operation, the sonar chart wi ll scroll from ri ght to left across the screen. Y ou can stop the char t from scrolling across the scr een. This is useful when you w ant to "freeze" the pictur e to study it more closely.
24 Depth Range Zoom When turned on, the unit aut omatically adjusts the d epth range acco rdin g to wate r con ditio ns. Whe n in aut o ran ge mode, it always keeps the bot tom displayed in the lower portion of the screen. You can over-ride the automatic depth range control and manually selec t a depth range.
25 When you Zoom while th e unit is in manual depth Range Zoom mode, you can sel ect one of 13 pr e-set Zoom Si zes. This lets yo u enlarge som e other particular se gment of th e water column.
26 To adjust Sensiti vity, press MENU until the S ENSITIVITY A DJUSTMENT menu appears. Press UP A RROW to increase the sensitivity, DOWN A RROW t o d e c r e a s e i t . W h e n i t ' s s e t a t t h e d e s i r e d l e v e l , press PWR to clear the menu.

28 To turn it on, press MENU until the F ISH ID menu appears. Press UP ARROW to s e lect T RACK O N , then press PWR . T o t u r n i t o f f , r e p e a t t h e above steps, but press DOWN A R ROW to select O FF . (If you want to turn off FishTrack depths but lea ve Fish I.
29 To turn off the fish alarm without turning off fis h symbols, pr ess MENU DOWN until F ISH A LAR M appears. Press DOWN A RROW to select O FF , then press PWR to clear th e menu. Repeat the above steps to turn the alarm back on, but press UP A RROW to select O N before clearing th e menu.
30 Backlight The display i s backlit for nigh t use. To turn the bac klight on or off, press MENU repeatedly until the B A CK L IGHT menu appears. Press UP ARROW to turn the light on or the DOWN ARROW to turn it off. Display Contrast To adjust the contrast, press MENU DOWN until t he D ISPLAY C ONTRAST menu appears.
31 Simulator This unit has a built-in simula tor t hat shows a simulated bottom signal with fi sh si gnals. This le ts you practic e with the unit as if you were on the wate r; all features and func tions of the un it are usab le. To use the simulator, press MENU DOWN repeat edly until the S IMULATOR menu appears.

33 Troubleshooting Unit won't turn on: 1. Check the power cab le's connecti on at the unit. Also ch eck the wiring. 2. Make certain th e power cable is wired proper ly. The red wire connects to the posit ive battery term inal, black to negative or ground.
34 Bottom echo disap pears at hi gh speeds or erratic dig ital reading or weak bottom echo while boat is moving 1. The transducer may be in turbulent water. It must be m ounted in a smooth flow of water for t he sonar to work at all b o at speeds. 2. Electrical noise from the boat's motor can interfere with the sonar.
