8 Getting Started Basic Setup The system is designed to mount to the back of most LCD monitors with a VESA mount. If desired, you can mount it to a wall or leave the system in a standard horizontal or vertical position. 1. Mount the System a. Scr ew the pro vided mounting scr ews into the two top hol es in the r ear panel of your L CD monitor .
9 Getting Started System Passwords Depending on your system model, the default user name (ID) and password is different. Refer to the tables below for details on the d efault system user IDs and password s. Mouse Control The mouse is the primary input device for navigating system menus.
10 Getting Started Remote Control The remote control is the secondary input device for navigating the system’s graphical user interface. To use the remote control: 1. LIST : Open the Event List menu. 2. OSD : Show/hide the on -screen display . 3. Primary contr ols: • MENU : Opens the sys tem main me nu.
11 Starting the System STARTING THE SYSTEM To power the system ON: • Connect the power ca bl e to the DC 12V port on the r ear panel of the syst em At startup, the system performs a basic system check and runs an initial loading seq uence. After a few moments, the system loads a live display view ( Live Mode ).

15 Starting the System Using the Split-Screen Selector If your system has 8/16-channe ls, you must choose a split-sc reen configuration using the Split-Screen Selector built into the syst em’s inte rface.
16 Starting the System Flexible Camera Assignment You can re-assign camera channels to different positions. For example, you can duplicate the video feed from channel 1 onto channel 2.This is useful if you wish to re -arrange the position of each channel.
17 SETTING THE DATE AND TIME It is highly recommended to immediately set the date and time when first setting up your system. To set the date and time: 1.
18 RECORDING By default, the system is set to immediately reco rd video from connected cameras in Continuous Record Mode. You can set the system t o stop recording once the hard drive is full, or to continually record by overwriting previously recorded data.
19 PLAYBACK View recorded video on the system through playback mode. To begin playback: 1. F r om the main screen, click . Playback mode opens. NOTE: If toolbar is not visible, first click . 2. Sel ect and change the dat e, month, year, time, and/or fr ame for playback and click .
20 Playback Playback Markers During playback, cli ck anywhere in the play ba ck bar to set a playback marker. Use this orange-colored marker for reference in future searches. Additional Search Markers The Playback bar can also be populated with other multi-colored markers.
21 EVENT LIST The system features an Event List to organize and search for recorded video on the s ystem. The Event List, coupled with the Smart Search icons, al lows you to search for recorded data on your system quickly and easily. NOTE: The system c an save a maximum of 4096 ev ents (4-channel) / 8192 events (8 & 16-channel).
22 Event List Smart Search Click the Smart Search icons to filter data according to events. These Smart Search icons are mirrored as event markers in Playback and Backup modes. Event Details The event details (event number, camera on/off, filter type, date & time, and event source) immediately match the list of events.
23 Event List Searching for Recorded Data You can use the Event List from Live Mode and Playback Mode to search for recorded data on your system. Live Mode To search for data: 1.

25 TAKING SCREENSHOTS If your system has 8 or 16 channels, you can take screenshots (screen cap tures) of the main display of your system. You can take a screenshot at an y time: during live viewing, search, and playback, or in any system menu. Screenshots are us eful if you need to provide a still image of your security footage to the authorities.
26 Taking Screenshots Using Screenshots Once you have taken screenshots, you need to connect the USB flash drive to a PC to view, print, or archive the images. To use screenshots: 1. Connect the USB flash drive t o a USB port on your PC. In the AutoPlay window, select Open folder to vie w files .
27 MANAGING PASSWORDS Refer to the tables below for the user name (ID) and password required to log in t o your system: Using the Password Wheel The system uses a graphical Password Wheel for inputting and changing user IDs and 4-digit, numeric passwords.
28 Managing Passwords Changing Passwords You need to be logged in as the administrato r in order to change passwords on the system. To change passwords: 1. Click to open the Main Menu. NOTE: In older firmwar e models, cli ck . 2. Click . The Setup menu opens.
29 Using the Main Menu USING THE MAIN MENU Depending on your DVR model: • Click to open the Main Menu OR • Click to open the Main Menu NOTE: If passwor ds ar e enabl ed on the system, you need t o sel e ct your user ID and enter the four-digit numerical pass wor d to open the Main Menu.
30 Using the Main Menu Camera Configure display settings for each camera. To configure came ra color settings : 1. F rom the Main Menu, click . The Camera menu opens. 2. Sel ect Color Adjust. 3. Click camer a 1 , 2 , 3 , or 4 . The video settings menu opens.
31 Using the Main Menu • Fan Speed : Click to set the fan speed to Low, Middl e, or High. The higher the fan speed the cooler the HDD t emperatur e (8/ 16-channel onl y ). • Date/Time Setup : Click to open Date/Time Setup. See “Setting the Date and Time” on page 17.
32 Using the Main Menu • Record Mode : Sel ect one of the foll owing: z Single-Way : The system stops r ecor ding when the internal har d drive is full. z Overwrite : The system continues r ecor ding when the internal har d drive is full by overwriting the oldest r ecor ded data.
33 Using the Main Menu z Quality : Click under each c amera and sel ect 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , or 5 . z Audio : Click under each c amera and sel ect either O to enabl e audio or X to disabl e audio. NOTE: Audio is onl y availabl e on channels 1 and 2. z Resolution : Click to set th e r esolution for all camer as— 640x240 or 640x480 .
34 Using the Main Menu Format HDD If you replace the pre-installed hard drive, the new drive must be formatted in order to function properly with the system. To format the hard disk: 1. F rom the Main Menu, click . The Recor d menu opens. 2. Click Format HDD .
35 Using the Main Menu Alarm Input & Output Menu • Alarm-In Type : Sel ect NO (normally open) or NC (normall y closed) for the alarm in devic e. • VLoss Response Time : Select the time (in seconds) f or the system to r ecor d prior to a trigger ed ev ent: 0, 3, 5, 10, 30, 60, 1 20, 180, or Infinite.
36 Using the Main Menu 8/16-channel To configure the alarm settings: 1. F rom the Main Menu, click . The Alarm menu opens. 2. Click and edit the foll owing: • Video Loss Alarm : Click under each camera and sel ect either O to enabl e the VLoss alarm, or X t o disabl e it.
37 Using the Main Menu • Response Duration : Sel ect the time (in seconds) f or the system t o r ecor d after a trigger ed alarm or motion event: 1~255 .
38 Backup Set start and stop times for recorded video data you wish to copy to a connected USB flash drive (not included). NOTE: The syst em supports most brands of USB flash drives fr om 128 MB ~ 8 GB. Formatting the USB Drive Prior to backing up data, you must first format the USB flash drive so it will function properly with the system.
39 Confirming Backup To verify that the file has been properly backed up: 1. Click to open Ev ent List. 2. Click fr om the Smart Sear ch ev ent filter . 3 . S e le c t t h e f i le a n d c l i c k . The backup file should begin playing. 4. T o exit, right-click until you r eturn to the main scr een.
40 Using the Main Menu LAN Configure network settings. F r om the Main Menu, click . The LAN menu opens. NOTE: Some networki ng knowledge is r equired when adjusting options in the LAN menu.
41 Using the Main Menu LAN Password Use the LAN Password to control Remote Viewing access for Guest, User, and Administrator profiles. The LAN password is required if using the built-in browser-bas ed remote client software. To change LAN passwords: 1.
42 Changing Ports On Your System CHANGING PORTS ON YOUR SYSTEM For added security, we strongly recommend changing HTTP port 80 on the system to any desired port —the port must not blocked by your Internet service provider (ISP). NOTE: Pl ease contact y our ISP f o r compl ete inf ormation on availabl e ports in your ar ea.
43 Changing Port s On Your Sy stem You must now include the new HTTP port number in the URL when logging in to your system with Internet Explorer. NOTE: Requir es Internet Explor er 6 or later . Local Viewing: To log in using the new port number: 1. Open Internet Expl or er .
44 Changing Ports On Your System Remote Viewing: You should now be able to access your system from your local network. Prior to using remote viewing, you must log in to your sys tem and enter the DDNS information from your Lorex DDNS confirmation email.

46 REMOTE ACCESS: DVR Netviewer REMOTE ACCESS: DVR NETVIEWER DVR Netviewer is the built-in browser-based remote surveillance software that allows you to access your system from any PC with an Internet connection.
47 REMOTE ACCESS: DVR Netviewer Netviewer: Basic Layout 4 Channel 16 Channel Network User Profiles In order to login to DVR Netviewer, you need a network user ID and password. Use the following default network user IDs and password t o login to DVR Netviewer: Figur e 17.

51 REMOTE ACCESS: DVR Netviewer Backup Use Backup to copy recorded video data from your DVR to your PC or Mac. • PC users must use Internet Explor er only • Mac users mus t use Safari onl y NOTE: Only the system administr ator (by default, ID 9, passwor d 9999 ) may use the Backup function of DVR Netviewer .
52 Setup Use Setup to configure your network settings and video streaming options. NOTE: All users (b y default, IDs 7 , 8 , and 9 ) have acces s to the Setup menu; only the system administrator (by default, ID 9 ) may configur e PPPoE and DDNS settings.

54 Mail Configure email notificatio n for triggered events on your system . NOTE: By default, Mail Notification is designed to work with Lorex DDNS. You must first register with Lorex DDNS for email notifica tion to work. However, you can also use your own SMTP server.
55 Setting up Loca l and Remote Viewi ng SETTING UP LOCAL AND REMOTE VIEWING You can connect the syst em to a network for loca l or remote viewing. Once connected, you can access your system locally or remotely using th e DVR Netviewer with Internet Explorer™ (PC) or Safari™ (Mac™).
56 Setting up Local and Remot e Viewing Viewing your system through a Local Area Network To connect to a network: 1. Power off y our syst em by disconnecting the power cabl e from the r ear panel. 2. Connect an Ethernet cabl e (included) to the LAN port on the r ear panel of the system.
57 Setting up Loca l and Remote Viewi ng Connecting to your system Once you have your system’s IP and HTTP Port number, you can view your system locally through the same local network. To view your system locally: 1. Open Internet Expl or er or Safari (Mac user s) 2.

61 Remote Viewing Using Easy Conne ct REMOTE VIEWING USING EASY CONNECT Yoics is an online service that allows you to connect and manage your Lorex devices online without router configuration. Register wi th Yoics to remotely view your cameras on your DVR anywhere in the world.
62 Remote Viewing Usi ng Easy Conn ect Enabling Easy Connect Easy connect is included in firmware version 7.21.02_18717 (4-channel) or 1. 30.09_18712 (8/16-channel) or above . To check your firmware version, fr om the Main Menu, click , and then click Information .

69 Lorex Auto Port Forwarding Wizard LOREX AUTO PORT FORWARDING WIZARD The Lorex Auto Port Forwarding Wizard is an excl usive software that easily automates router port forwarding. Before setting up a DDNS account, it is recommended to run the Auto Port Forwarding Wizard to port forward the required ports.

Obtaining Your Route r Model Number and Versio n On most routers, the model and version number can be found underneath the router, printed on a sticker.

81 Mobile Connectivity Mobile Connectivity on the iPhone / iPad iPhone Users To connect to your DVR using the iPhone, you need to download and install t he Lorex Live application from the App Store. iPad Users To connect to your DVR using the iPad, you need to download and install the Lorex Live Plus application from the App Store.
