GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Invertec STT is a 225 ampere, inverter based, arc welding power supply specifically designed for the Surface T ension T ransfer (STT) welding process. It cannot be classified as either a constant current (CC) or a constant voltage (CV) machine.
RECONNECT , PROTECTION BOARD, RECTIFICA TION AND PRECHARGE The reconnect panel allows the user to switch to low or high input voltage to match the input line voltage. The AC input voltage is rectified and applied to the driver board. The driver board contains precharging circuitry for safe charging of the input filter capacitors.

FIELD EFFECT TRANSISTOR (FET) OPERA TION An FET is a type of transistor . FET s are semiconduc- tors well suited for high-frequency switching. Drawing A above shows an FET in a passive mode. There is no gate signal, zero volts relative to the source and, therefore, no current flow .
PULSE WIDTH MODULA TION The term PULSE WIDTH MODULA TION is used to describe how much time is devoted to conduction in the positive and negative portions of the cycle.
PROTECTIVE CIRCUITS Protective circuits are designed into the Invertec machine to sense trouble and shut down the machine before the trouble damages the internal machine com- ponents.
