S tatement of Purpose: The Life Fitness st airclimber is an exercise machine that simulates the movements of walking up st airs at various speeds.

7 1.2 S ETUP Read the entire Operation Manual before setting up the Life Fitness S tairclimber . W HERE TO P LACE THE L IFE F ITNESS ® S T AIRCLIMBER Following all safety instructions in Section 1.1, move the Life Fitness S tairclimber to the location in which it will be used.
H OW TO C HARGE THE B A TTER Y The Life Fitness S tairclimber is powered by a rechargeable 6V battery . Check the battery by pressing the ST ART key or by stepping on the pedals. If the battery is charged, the console lights up, making it possible to program a workout.
9 The plug must be inserted into an electrical outlet that has been properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances. *If the console display does not light up after the proper charging procedure is followed, call Customer Support Services.
2 T HE D ISPLA Y C ONSOLE 2.1 D ISPLA Y C ONSOLE O VERVIEW The computerized display console on the Life Fitness S tairclimber allows the user to tailor a workout to personal fitness abilities and goals and to monitor progress. With this easy-to-use console the user can track fitness improvement from one workout to the next.
11 2.2 D ISPLA Y C ONSOLE D ESCRIPTIONS The functions for the keys and display windows on the Life Fitness S tairclimber console are list- ed and described in this section. See Section 4, titled The Workouts , for det ailed information on using the console to set up workouts.
H WORKOUTS PLUS (93Si only): Press this key to access additional workout options, includ- ing the six pre-configured hill workouts. See Section 4, titled The Workout s , for details.
13 L MESSAGE CENTER: This window displays step-by-step instructions for setting up a work- out. When a workout is in progress, it displays statistics about the progress of the workout, as seen below: • Time : time elap sed since the start of the workout.
2.3 T HE A CCESSOR Y T RA Y The accessory tray (A), which is mounted to the base of the console, provides dual storage trays with space for items such as water bottles, personal stereos, and cell phones. Additionally , an inte- grated reading rack (B) for supporting a book or magazine is located at the base of the uppper panel of the console.

16 3.2 H EART R AT E M ONIT ORING T HE L IFEPULSE TM D IGIT AL H EART R AT E M ONITORING S YSTEM The patented Lifepulse system sensors are the built-in heart rate monitoring system on the Life Fitness stairclimber . Grasp the stainless steel sensors (A) that are set into the “bull horn” handle- bars.
17 T HE P OLAR ® T ELEMETRY H EART R AT E M ONITORING C HEST S TRAP The Life Fitness S tairclimber i s equipped with the Polar ® heart rate monitoring system in which elec- trodes, pressed against the skin, transfer heart rate signals to the console.
4 T HE W ORKOUTS 4.1 W ORKOUT O VERVIEWS This section lists the Life Fitness S tairclimber pre-programmed workout s. For more detailed infor- mation, see Section 4.2, titled Using the Workouts . QUICK ST ART is the fastest way to begin exercising, and it bypasses the steps involved in selecting a specific workout.
19 4.2 U SING THE W ORKOUTS Different st airclimber workouts require dif ferent setup steps. See the chart on the following page, titled Life Fitness S tairclimber Workout Set-up S teps , for a quick glance at the steps for setting up any individual workout.

21 E NTERING T IME When prompted by the MESSAGE CENTER to enter a time, use the ARROW KEYS to increase or decrease the displayed time to the desired value, and press ENTER.
4.3 W ORKOUT D ESCRIPTIONS Q UICK S T ART QUICK ST ART is the fastest way to begin exercising, and it bypasses the steps of selecting a specific workout. The intensity level for the workout is set automatically and remains the same unless manually changed.
23 Each HILL workout goes through four phases, each marked by dif ferent intensity levels. The WORKOUT PROFILE window displays the progress of these phases, as seen in the chart fol- lowing these descriptions below . The heart rate should be measured at two stages in the work- out to gauge its ef fectiveness.

25 F IT T EST (93Si ONL Y ) The Life Fitness S tairclimber Fit T est program is another exclusive feature of this versatile S tairclimber . The Fit T est workout measures cardiovascular fitness and can be used to monitor improvements in endurance every four to six weeks.

4.4 U SING THE L IFE F ITNESS S T AIRCLIMBER S T AIRCLIMBER M OTION The Life Fitness S tairclimber permits a maximum stepping height of 13.5 inches, or 34.3 centimeters. The unit features independent stepping action, which means that the pedals move independently of each other .
29 5 O PTIONAL S ETTINGS 5.1 E NTERING AND U SING THE O PTIONAL S ETTINGS F EA TURE Fitness club managers and other authorized personnel can use the Optional Settings feature to change default settings, or to enable or disable certain programs or displays on the console.
30 U SER L ANGUAGE S ELECT If enabled, this option allows users to select the language by which to interact with the unit dur- ing a workout. T o use the option, enable User Language Select (see below). Begin stepping. The console will display the message “SELECT LANGUAGE USING ARROW KEYS”.
